Trying to keep it succinct -
1. Full disclosure - Joker was amazing
2. It seems a lot of group thinks have decided Joker was "shallow" or "should have picked a lane". I take from this that movies have a social responsibility to "fix things". No, they don't. What they can and will do is create a conversation and after 5 years here we are still talking about "it". Job well done. Don't be stupid, what movies do is start conversations and this one hits it out of the park.
3. I understand fully people don't all get or need or embrace the ride Joker takes you and yours on. My goodness, I love you all for that appreciation, but don't create narratives that really don't hold water.
4. Joker was similar to Reservoir Dogs and the Stuck in the Middle with You scene. It gave people a great chance to "check out". I get it, it was an old fashion little league "cup check", not for everyone and gosh bless those it wasn't.

As a heads up Kristian, we haven’t had a full open-world Star Wars game. Games like Knights of the Old Republic or Galaxies have had wide areas to explore, but they are NOT open-world games. Nor are they considered open world style games. Star Wars Outlaws is the first one to actually be designed as open-world. I wrote a whole editorial about this very thing shortly after we got the first trailer for Star Wars Outlaws, you should read it sometime so you can get clarity on everything…. ALSO: this new trailer is meant to focus just on Story, hence why it’s a story trailer. We actually got a showcase of the gameplay last year from the Ubisoft Forward event that showed how the game will play (including riding a speeder and ship to space)… we are probably going to get another trailer with more gameplay this summer, since the game is coming out in August… Hope that helps. Would love to talk about this stuff together sometime!

@@alexp601 Nope. MMOs have a large space to roam, but by design they aren't open-world style games. The editorial I mentioned that I wrote goes into a lot of detail on the characteristics of what makes an open-world game. A lot of games have elements of open-world, but they aren't open-world in full themselves.
I think another reason Francis Ford Coppola might be struggling to get his movie sold to a studio is that has not made a big movie for 30 years Bram Stoker's Dracula, being the last one. Whilst at leas Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese, who managed to get deals with apple, have at least release at least 1 or 2 notable movies every 5 years or so.

Would also recommend watching American horror story s5 where she plays the main villain. It might give you more of a sense as it’s more closely related to a Harley aesthetic than her other work!

Maybe they should just pay attention to performances and stop thinking about the “story” that they are trying to tell with the awards?
People forget that Unbreakable was totally shat on when it first came out. People clowned it HARD. I remember my friends renting it after having already seen it because I hadn't seen it yet and they were telling me just how terrible it was and then we watched it and I was like "What's the problem? That was awesome!" and they were like "Yeah that was worse the first time around."

As a horror fan I grew up watching Josh Garnett in H20 and the faculty and I’m glad he’s getting a comeback. Lucky number slevin and Blackhawk down are good also.
I've loved every Shyamalan movie since "the visit." I understand the controversies in "Old" and "Knock at the Cabin," but I think they are very unique thrillers that are fun to watch. Split was a defining moment for me as a 16 year old in the theatre.
33:00 Hey Kristian, you are correct. Star Wars The Old Republic is still live and going. It's pretty big and keeps growing in terms of Open World. It's basically the Star Wars version of World Of Warcraft. An MMO. I think what Kris means is Open World in terms of GTA and other games that are similar. In a sense like GTA, Jedi Survivor is kinda open world also. Technically not the first Star Wars that's open world.
They are classing fallen order/jedi survivor as a metroidvania i think which... sure technically but it is as close to open world as you can get whilst still being able to pull a "technically" ha.

Harloff, I think your disappointment with Star Wars in movies and tv is confusing your expectations with this video game. Of all the parts of Lucasfilm, the video games are the ones that are being received best by fans, they don't need to do something that doesn't involve Jedi or use anti heroes, they are doing well. If Outlaws fails it is for many other reasons (many games are having problems, have you seen Warner?), but it won't be because of just the story.

how can you not like the film - if you're a film fan. Its a great brilliant made film.
I actually have no problems with musicals. I saw Grease (1978) for the first time late last year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up watching Mary Poppins (1964). I saw West Side Story in school. The OG and not the one with Rachel Zegler before she became the most hated actress in Hollywood over Brie Larson. I’ve never seen The Sound of Music but I’ve seen The Wizard of Oz and all the Willy Wonka movies which are all musicals.
My favorite movie from 2022 was NOT Top Gun: Maverick which I still love and own a hat for but it’s Elvis. And that movie was basically music videos/concerts stitched together making it essentially a musical from Elvis’ discography. I was NOT a fan of Elvis or his music until I saw that 2022 movie. I tend to listen to my movies while the screen is off. So musicals have great replay value for that. It’s almost like you’re listening to the radio.
No whining from me if Joker 2 is a musical. Many of those Disney animated movies my generation grew up on from The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), Hercules (1997), and Mulan (1998) are musicals. I honestly think it’s a genre that should get revived. A musical may not fit with DC characters but let’s just wait and see. Let’s not prejudge it.

Star Wars will never have the feel of dune and if that’s what you want then it’s definitely time to move on. It will always be marketed towards kids and teens.

If you can't crack the story on Jon Snow, then maybe hire more writers, or ask Kit Harrington on where he sees the character. He was sent north of The Wall with the Wildlings. Without the White Walkers, who would be the main enemy? His cousin is the High King, so he can't be the problem. Jon Snow without an enemy to fight is just some guy with a sword. What if he took the Wildlings on a journey over the sea, exploring the world, in the hope of finding a new home. While exploring, they could introduce new characters, new creatures, new enemies, new locations.
I would say im mostly hyped for Beetlejuice as well. Furiousa will probably be amazing though

1:03:30 seeing the studios shy away from Coppola (following the bad box office for the last Scorsese movie) might be a sign that the legacy film makes have lost their "pass" in the industry. Moving forward they will probably have to show a vision that really hits at a budget that is very enticing.
Speaking of Michael Keaton, I watched Mr. Mom on CZcams Monday night. I haven't seen it since I was a kid and it's still funny. I can appreciate some of the jokes better now that I'm an adult 😂
The way The Walking Dead has handled its continually growing world should be the template. The three sequel/spinoff shows that have begun since the series ended have all been fantastic and has fans rallying around them. That’s the way!

30 Days of Night 2007 is the horror movie, and 40 Days and 40 Nights 2002 is the romantic comedy Kristian.

X-Men 97 is a fantastic show! Love it! The future of the MCU is totally going to be X-Men focused. I do feel bad for all the actors who were finally getting promoted from side kicks to the staring rolls but the X-Men are going to over take them.

One of the best scenes in The Big Lebowski (1998) was that Gutterballs scene using "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" by The First Edition led by Kenny Rogers. Any musical can be great if the songs are good and perfect for that scene.
Musical numbers can be the most memorable scene in a movie if done right as seen with “Sweet Child O’ Mine” sung as an acapella in Step Brothers (2008) or Dustin singing Limahl’s “Never Ending Story” near the end of Stranger Things S3.

Best trailer? No. Is it one of the best? Yes. For me in 2024 so far the two best trailers have been the first trailer for both A Quiet Place Day One and Furiosa. Monkey Man as well but I think that first one was 2023 I could be wrong. Incredible trailers that I keep going back to watch again.
This trailer was cinema GOLD. Every second of the trailer was masterful and thought provoking. It really makes you feel for Joker...even though he's a crazy villain. I can't wait to see this movie.

I'm glad Steph and Kris are still interested in seeing Joker 2 despite not being too crazy about the first one. I liked the first one fine, but I wasn't blown away by it like a lot of people were. However, this one looks pretty awesome, so I'm definitely in. As for Coppola having trouble getting distribution for Megalopolis, that baffles me. I don't get how it could be due to confusion on how to market it. I don't buy that excuse. It can't be that difficult for a studio to figure out how to do that. I'd be surprised if A24 doesn't pick it up. They have a good relationship with his daughter and they're not scared to take risks, so it should be a no-brainer. The concept of the film sounds cool too. And Kris, that Josh Hartnett movie you're thinking of is 30 Days Of Night. I think you were mixing the title up with another one of his movies called 40 Days And 40 Nights. Both good ones of his.
