  • President Joe Biden defended his record on helping Black Americans, citing low unemployment numbers and his administration's efforts to combat systemic segregation in housing, while former President Donald Trump accused him of “killing” Black and Hispanic families due to high inflation and immigration.
Biden said that while he doesn't blame Black voters for being disappointed in the progress so far, “Black unemployment it the lowest level it's been in a long, long time."
“There's more to be done, considerably more to be done. But we've done a great deal so far, and I'm not letting up,” Biden said during the first presidential debate of the 2024 campaign.
Trump falsely accused Biden of creating high inflation, as well as allowing high levels of immigration through the Southern border.
“He caused the inflation and it's killing black families and Hispanic families and just about everybody,” Trump said.
Trump added that immigrants were competing for jobs with Black Americans.
The June 27 CNN Presidential Debate was the first time President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump faced off this election season. It was also the first debate between a sitting and former president.
