Really it was that he didn't have the mental strength to shoot his wife's walker in the first season and because of that, his son, who understandably had even less strength than him when he saw his mom, was killed. This was him overcoming the very first obstacle we see him face and not repeating the past.

This scene is Morgan facing his trauma. He had two outcomes, let it take him and another person he loved, or he could face his trauma and redeem himself. Morgan is the most human character in the whole series.
Well in season 3 of twd Michonne, Carl, and Rick find Morgan in the episode clear and I think he said then that he had been in a mall or something with Dwayne and he turned around for a second and a walker got him. Didn't say if he died or just got bit, but I think Morgan lied and said he put him down right there bc "he had to".
Yeah, I kind of expected that he didn’t because he didn’t put Duane down in the comics, either. He had him chained in the attic and he was feeding him animals and the occasional human, but when Rick, Carl and Abraham found him, he untied Duane before they left the town. He couldn’t put Duane down, but he did set him free in a different way.
Morgans hardest moment of his life mans loved both of them but only had one left he is a strong man to be able to let go and finally take his humanity back now that hes finished his greatest mission its time for him to go find and help rick again and maybe itll be morgan saveing rick this time
Morgan Jones, the unkillable man that dies a thousand times, finding family and losing it again and again, rebuilding just to be torn down. The walking dead is perfectly set to transfer the main role to Morgan now and I hope beyond hope that they do, it feels more like Morgan story than Rick's sometimes!
What's amazing about this scene is they got the ACTUAL actor that played Duane on the Walking Dead on the set of Fear The Walking Dead for this. The episode is called, "King County" it's in season 8 of FTWD. Probably the best FTWD episode, it's so good
@@soupspeaker FTWD season 8 was filmed in 2022. TWD season 1 was filmed in 2010. So yeah even I was wrong, that's much more than a few years apart 💀 Did you mean to say in your comment that "they had the original actor for Duane on set to watch them film this scene"?
Morgan suffered a lot in this life because at the beginning his first wife turned into a zombie but he loved her and didn't want to shoot so that's when she killed Duane and then he killed his wife but he didn't have the courage to kill himself son
I would assume Morgan told her about how Duane died in the exact situation when he couldn't shoot his wife, the kid isn't dumb, she probably understood what was happening
Even though my favorite character is Glenn, killing him was necessary for the development of other characters like Maggie, Negan, Rick or Daryl. Plus, it's in line with the original comic strip.
It looked like the son said “Help me dad” with the mouth movements when it was just the daughter saying that Bro. I would break down so hard if that was me 😭
Morgan knew he couldnt make the same mistake twice, but it was still hard for him. Thats a really good acting and writing here. One of the best FTWD moments i have ever seen
Morgan is such an incredible character, wen he finally showed back up in s5 of TWD. I couldn't believe it. I was so ciked!! And he had the bow and karate skill
In the Comic, after Rick takes Morgan with him to Alexandria he lied and said Duane got killed by his mother, its then shown only to the reader that he left Duane chained up as a walker,he never appears or is mentioned again and his fate as awalker is left as a "mistery",later Morgan dies in the outbreak at Alexandria during the no way out arc,so it was an unexpected surprise to see the FTWD writers take that vage plot point and use it for Lennie James exit from the show,it was an acceptable and solid pisode for an otherwise disposable final season and spinoff as a whole.
Morgan has always been my favorite character on the show. Watching the first few seasons without reading the books, I always wanted his character to return in some profound way. Both versions did it really well but I'll never forget Morgan's booby trapped town with all of the warning signs painted up. That was great.
Dammit. I cry every single time I see this. I remember seeing how much Morgan loved Duane when we first see them. Then after him describe what happened to Duane (after Rick came across him when Morgan went batshit) killed me. Morgan always seemed utterly broken, even in FOTWD, clearly never completely getting over the loss of his son after his first wife. I never thought we'd see this scene that is similar to the one in the comics when we find out what happened to Duane after he got bit. No matter how much I cry, I loved that they did this scene. Seeing Morgan gain acceptance (not sure if that's the right or fitting term?) and having the strength to move on was beautiful.
my head canon; the infected still have some sort of consciousness, they arent in control of their body, but deep down, they can see and feel everything, from their body rotting to being killed again. all they can do is scream in their mind as the husk of their body roams earth. more detes in the reply section \/
i think this for many reasons, back in S1 when the original group meets the doctor at the CDC, he says that the infection takes over the body of the host, starting with the brain and then spreads like wild fire, he also said shortly about how the conscious of the person is one of the last things to go, which he finds strange given the brain is the first to kick start the infection. on top of this, many characters throughout the show fight for a belief that walkers are still "people" from Lizzy all the way to the Whispers, there are some that believe that theres still a small part of that person stuck somewhere inside the mind
if this is true, this makes Morgan's trauma even worse, imagine aiming a scoped gun at your dead childs face, from their prospective all they can do is scream "daddy daddy!" as they have zero control over their body
