I laughed so hard at this review. I completely feel your pain and I actually worked on the film as a vfx artist. I felt so bad about how people hated it I ended up working with friends on a fan film which thank goodness most people loved! Chickbait's Truly Outrageous

Now, I've never watched the "Jem" cartoon. but I can speak for everyone when I say that this bares NO resemblance to the source material. Heck, I've written scripts for adaptations for "Quack Pack" and "Pound Puppies", and, unlike the "Jem" movie, they at least resemble the original cartoons.

Several people in bad movies were doing their jobs.
Honestly, just be glad no one you liked was in that role in this movie. Shana and Aja barely even have mines past the 10 minute mark.

You're right Invisible Man Stephanie Scott does have more personality & stage presence than Aubrey does she also has a better voice if she had been cast as Jerrica she could easily wear a blond wig as well as pink wig as Jem.

No kidding this movie was terrible the writers and creators have no idea who Jem is. I can tell you Invisible this cartoon show was one of a kind it dealt with issues no other cartoons in the 80s have or since. The cartoon Jem had magic, mystery, romance, drama, adventure, action, comedy it had it all but it had one thing no other cartoon hardly has they had a huge diversity on the show. And what sucks is that Christy Marx didn't get to input her opinion on the movie she is the creator of Jem so why not ask her?

There’s so many issues with this film. But the issue with the mortgage and money is the dumbest. The contracts in the film all sound like they were written by someone whose never read nor heard of a contract, and the solution to their problem should have been a no brainer.
Just hit the monetize button on your viral video. YT may not pay a ton, but it pays something, especially if you have a viral video. Certainly should be enough to keep the debt collectors at bay for another half month until you get paid from your 3 stage appearance deal (which is not even in the realm of a real deal or wage agreement or contract).

My bible says "Showtime Synergy" hand written by Christie Marx and is my most prized possession. Hubby got it for me a couple of years ago. He also managed to talk me into watching the movie a couple of weeks ago and I tutted so loudly at so much stuff and afterwards my eye balls hurt from rolling them so much

@@EverythingJem I didn’t watch Jem that much as a kid, my sisters did, but I watched it with them as an adult, and yeah, it’s actually a pretty good show. Maybe not every episode, but most of them are pretty good. And there’s only a couple other shows I can even point at at the time that had a story that continued forward each episode.
And that movie isn’t even remotely the same thing as Jem. No idea what that was even supposed to be, but judging from the director’s accreditations being basically just Justin Bieber documentaries…. I guess that’s what it was supposed to be. It was originally called Becoming Famous, and it was going to be about CZcamsrs rising to stardom, which is why there’s random YT clips everywhere. Then someone decided to just throw Jem in after a while, some executive somewhere.
Yeah, it would’ve been boring either way, but it’s a big disrespect to the fanbase.

if you want to see how a true live action Jem and the holograms movie done correctly compared to this garbage then check out truly outrageous a fan film where Jem is played by Chloe Dykstra and all the characters are done correctly and look the way they are supposed to. Jon Chu does not how to direct at all.

The oldest millenials would be in their 30's in 2015. I don't think millennials were the target audience, it looks like it was aimed at teens, so Gen Z. Again millennials may have grown up with it or caught reruns and would be familiar with it. Gen Z wouldn't have been familiar with it. So the lack of anything connected to the cartoon makes me think they are going for the Gen Z crowd
It was originally a different movie. They just slapped Jem on it after the fact. That’s why all the random CZcams videos amen appearances is because of the original script being rewrote into this film.
It was just another Justin Bieber movie, just like the two that the director did before, where people become viral from YT. Why anyone thought that would make a good Jem movie is anyone’s guess.
Not sure there was a target audience to be honest. No idea what anyone was thinking in this project.

He explained pretty clearly why it was dumb in this case, seeing as how Eric and Jerrica being different genders makes for better conflict and more dynamic situations.
There truly was no reason to swap Eric to Erica.
