This is the best video I have seen on how to color a black and white photo. I have been trying to color a photo following other videos without success until I came across your video your method is quite easy to follow. Thanks for tutorial.
WOW, I've been looking all over the net and youtube for someone to show how to do this vintage style coloring to a B&W photo, without all sorts of steps! Thank you so much for the clear and concise tutorial and I love your southern accent! I'll be on your Teach Me To Color Facebook page soon and I'm a way thumbs up subscriber.
When I began watching this video this evening, and saw your technique, I thought to myself there is no way this method will work. I watched the video all the way through and saw the end result and couldnt believe it. I downloaded a trial version of Adobe Elements 14, and took to trying your method. I could not believe the results! Thanks for posting this.
I’ve watched a lot of tutorials but this one made the most sense to me. It was easy to follow and understand. I primary do portraits but the principles can be applied to any photograph I think👍
Wow, you have opened up a whole new art form for me. Thank you so much for making this video and sharing your techniques. At first I didn't get it it right but after watching your video several times and following it step by step, I got it!! Thanks again.
I tried your technique. It works beautifully. Rather than using the paint brush, I used the quick selection tool and used the paint bucket to fill the selected area. This seems to give better control and greater accuracy in colorizing the desired area. I haven't tried using the refine edge tool but it might potentially increase the accuracy in colorizing selected areas.
THANK YOU, thank you, thank you for the clearest explanation of how to colorize photos in Elements that I could find ANYwhere. I searched for days and then I finally came upon your tutorial. Keep up the good work and ignore those whiners who complain about your excellent tutorial. [BTW, since I couldn't save your video, I transcribed it to a Word file so I could save that.]
Steve Walters you are very welcome. This technique also works in regular photoshop as well. I'm so glad you liked the video. We also have a Facebook group called Teach Me To Color that helps people learn to do colorization and restoration. we also give tips and answer questions from our members
Thank you Winter Chavez - Your video was very helpful. I rewatch it, whenever I have to color a black and white photo. Thank you for posting. I've subscribed to your channel as well.
Cy Young you are very welcome. I had a lot of trouble trying to follow other people's videos when I started so I found my own way to do it and tried to share that with others
Thank you so much for making this video. I am having one issue, when I add another color and attempt to adjust the hue, it adjusts all previous colors as well. I am using Elements 10. Thank you.
You are very welcome please feel free to watch some of my other tutorials or join us on our Facebook group "Teach Me To Color" for immediate help or answers to any questions. so glad it helped you!
You are so welcome. Feel free to join us over on Teach Me To Color if you are a member of facebook we have some great resources there and a list of all of our videos. it is fred and we will help you learn and give you feedback on your work. I am so glad you liked the video. I had a hard time learning with other videos as well so as I started learning it myself I decided I was going to do some simple step by step guides for those wanting to learn but finding it difficult to follow other tutorials. I wanted others to benefit from what I found worked for me. I am glad it has helped you as well.
You can always duplicate the layer if need be. Soft light allows you to build them up. Also double check and make sure your levels are adjusted correctly so that it takes color properly. Hope this helps
I got to 5:57 and played it a dozen times at varying volumes. Control what lady? Click control what to bring up the hue/saturation menu? You don't give a clue. I clicked around on everything and had to abort to find a video that more clearly explained it. Thanks anyway. What about folks who've never done this before? So many of the videos here take for granted the viewer has already done this a number of times and you're only showing a better way.
Thank you for the reply, I kept googling til I found the alternates. I just get frustrated when these very good videos chronically stymie me when one or two simple commands aren't clear. Expert users such as yourself sometimes are so good that which is habit to you is a search for the holy grail for (some of) us. Thank you again.
butchblancq I am far from an expert I taught myself most of what I do and I try to do my best to make it easy for others just starting out learning as well. I primarily do videos for photoshop cc and even have a beginners video set. often it is the limitation of our recording software .. I will see about getting some captions on this one soon. I didn't realize anyone had tube understanding it until now. thaks so much for your input it helps us improve our tutorials. this one one of the first few I did and have since purchased a new computer so I may need to just redo the video. thaks for watching!
I am always glad to see the way I taught myself help others! I'm glad you found it helpful
