TheGusBus97 Well if it doesn't know him, then it's just really smart and confident, because it would've had to have seen where the food was coming from, come to the conclusion that there was more, and come to the conclusion that the creature (human) will give him the food instead of throwing it if he gets close.

wow those fish have really good eye sight, they're going for the food as it's thrown in mid air and knowing where it's going to land. puppies of the sea!
They're probably from The Matrix.
Heck I throw small pieces of food to my cats and it lands right next to their feet and they're looking for it for minutes.
I've seen a jack crevalle at sea world chase a dragon fly all over the tank, dragon fly was a good foot off the water
Sometimes I throw food to my dog and it accidently lands on her head yet she still looks for it knowing damn well she felt it land on her head, she then runs to me growling as if I made it dissappear, then when I get it off her head a give it to here she gets startled like it has not been there the whole time then of coarse she eats it smackin loud af *me realizing my dog is a bit slower in the mental department*
What a big cutie! I love petting and feeding the stingrays at the local aquarium. They always jump up on the sides and flap for food. I think it's the cutest thing that they flap when they want something. XD

What's puzzling is the bad reputation these creatures have received. Honestly I've hand fed these animals (not this big) but honestly they are very docile and curious, unless they sense immediate danger there is really nothing to fear with them. Just be gentle and let them initiate first contact (food will obviously work) This big one seemed quite docile as well though I wasn't expecting him to get this close, but it was hungry and obviously wanted it's share and not have the fish get it all. Why waste energy trying to chase food down when the fish are faster and more agile? Just go up to the guy get the food directly, smart animal!
Many stingrays actually seem to like being pet. If they weren't so difficult to keep I could see them becoming a domestic pet one day.

Probably because Steve Irwin got killed by one. Which is tragic, because Steve Irwin would've never wanted them (or any animal) to get a bad reputation.
DarkSektori yeah man, when you got a guy who plays with crocodiles for 40 years without any problems, but then dies from a stingray of all things, they get a bad rap.
plus i think the idea of them hiding on the seafloor (potentially to be stepped on) gives them the same fear aspect as a shark would, and both arent even dangerous nor do they attack humans barely at all (compared to most any predator))
+Holdin McGroin That was a tragedy. Also an accident. I think he may have stepped on its tail which caused it to spook the animal thinking it was in danger.
+DarkSektori I swear these things are smarter and friendly than we give them credit for. Once we went the Seaworld or something and there's a shallow opened tank and I was the first to arrive at that place ahead of my tour queue and this little stingray just comes SWIMMING UP THE GLASS TOWARDS ME. It said don't touch, stingray's back sensitive sign, but I did, and fuck that thing was friendly and genuinely like being stroked. It's weird.

Stingrays are such peculiar animals... The tail is murder shaped, the top side is alien shaped, and the bottom side just looks like a derpy friend that is just happy to hang out

I went on a 3 day amazon jungle tour in Bolivia once and the guy in charge of the facilities did something similar but to a Crocodile named "Bob"

Yes, it's true. The Stingray is one of the most awesome creations in nature. And up close and in person, they are scary beautiful. Diving with them is an adventure never to be forgotten.

Steve was a tragic accident, the ray never meant to and it was a occasion that shock us all his mistake was removing the barb, he would still be alive however as I say no animal or etc will strike unless it feels threatened or uncomfortable which in his case the ray tried to tell him to back away but still they are the smartest yet friendliest I've met out of all the species just as Octopuses.

Is this a Southern Ray? I am hoping to have the chance to go to Stingray City sometime this year. I am a little nervous, because of what happened to Steve Irwin, but i have heard that they are very passive and friendly, the thing is you don't swim above it and touch its back, it will swing that barb in self defence, but i think if it comes up to you, as in this video, you would be relatively safe. (with all things there are risks. Be careful and respectful of the animal and try not to scare it.)
