Back in 2005, taxpayers were told it would cost $360 million. Around the same time, a $43 million plan for actual flood control - which would have raised the existing levees along the Trinity River - was turned down in favor of the “Panther Island” concept, which will destroy them.
Less than a year later, the TRV’s cost increased to $435 million. By 2009, the price tag soared to $909 million. And if Tarrant County voters approve $250 million in new debt via Prop A, the cost will soar to $1.17 billion. That's well over $1,350 for every man, woman and child in Fort Worth.
The buying of properties the reporter mentioned was actually land seizure through imminent domain. Personally, I would have preferred the $50 per person flood control project and purchased three $1,300 kayaks for the family.
Meanwhile, Congresswoman Kay Granger's billion dollar project has employed her son, JD, for 13 years at the tune of over $190,000 per year, making him one of the highest-paid government employees in North Texas.
Call me names, but please call me fiscally conservative...

They need to fix all the NEPOTISM surrounding management of this project. So sad that this is happening at this day and age.

We don't have money for sick & homeless People, but we have money for bigger Downtowns & Illegal Immigrants. I'd bet the Illegal Immigrants can cover that area up with tents, within 30 days of completion... I was born in Ft Worth... in 1942

i want dallas and fort worth to be equally known and famous. since dallas has been the more famous city in the metroplex, I don't want fort worth to take that place, just alongside it.

I can't wait for taxpayer dollars stop being mismanaged. Here we are 6 years after the OPs post and still not even close to wasting our money. Just more debt. What's the big deal. I mean you know, immorally saddling generations yet unborn with debt they'll be stuck paying.
