  • The first example of a destroyed bronze Dalek prop can be found in Series 1's 'The Parting of the Ways', but there is an interesting fact about this prop that everyone seems to get wrong...

    Could have sworn Doctor Who Confidential said they made the mutant look more human for that reason.

      Maybe they deliberately oriented the dead mutant prop to give that impression, but either way it doesn't really make sense. The origin species of a Dalek mutant wouldn't necessarily change how many eyes the mutant has, we've seen examples of Daleks grown from humans in the past that only have one eye (Stengos, for example), and according to the 'Dalek' novelisation Daleks rip out unnecessary eyes when a mutant is born, probably explaining why so many have vestigial eye sockets in the first place. After all, Daleks are grown from Kaleds, and they originally had two eyes just like humans do.

      @@dalekbumps could you really use Stengos as an example as having one eye though? It didn't seem like he had only one but the other part of his face was obscured/covered up by that gooy pulsating mess that covered most of his head.
      Plus remember the room he was in was for experimentation only as Davros himself later stated.
      I was assuming what was being used was the human head/brain but it wasn't made clear if what we saw was for aesthetic reasons or if it had been specifically placed. It was stated that Stengos was growing like an embrio. I was assuming from that that however he would eventually turn out would depend how it grew. We never saw any final versions as he never really completed the process since Natasha prematurely ended his existence. So the question would remain as to what the final form should have been.
      Also in the original story which was supposed to feature an exploding flying Dalek in which parts of the casing was supposed to break away to reveal the mutant. Due to issues the prop was never able to be used in this way, but there is one very unclear picture of the prop with the mutant which seems like some mass or something but not looking very human.
      Some more details plus the picture can be seen here:
      www.dalek6388.co.uk/revelation-of-the-daleks/
      Be interesting to be able to clarify what the designers had originally intended.

    Imagine a companion wandering through the TARDIS and finding the partly-destroyed casing with a mummified dalek in it. Would probably lead to some questions, or at least screaming.

    Fun fact: the Metaltron Dalek did actually have two eyes when it was first created, but the Daleks overseeing its creation gouged one out with a metal spike because it was superfluous.

    • @dalekbumps
      @dalekbumps  Před rokem +21

      That's true, and the implications of that are even more gruesome - if the idea of it having two eyes at birth was included as a means of explaining the smaller vestigial eye socket, then the Dalek Emperor, Dalek Caan and Rusty must have also been born with two eyes, as they all share the same face (unlike Dalek Sec, whose mutant has a single, central eye)
      I should do a full video on the Dalek novelisation at some point, it's got loads of fun details

    • @Cybermat47
      @Cybermat47 Před rokem +4

      @@minicle426 presumably **any** eyes were seen as superfluous back then. Or what was considered a ‘pure’ Dalek was different.

    Bit of an odd thing to want - but character options should’ve made a figure based on this like there was one made for the destroyed Imperial Dalek, could serve as a bit of scenery with the exposed mutant inside. Would be much better than rusty frame destroyed Cassandra. Plus there’s a Doctor Who Battle in Times card featuring this particular Dalek.

    It's annoying how when the Dalek collapses and when the Doctor walks up to it they're noticeably different, the front mid piece vanishes, the previously mentioned gold band appear and there's less rubble then there was on the top of it.
    Also you'll never be able to convince me that this Dalek mutant is the same, I mean it almost certainly is, but I will never see it. The two eye thing is just not noticeable on the other mutant

    I very much agree with your opening sentiment of finding out about really intresting facts about even the smallest thing in Doctor Who's production, I really enjoy it and find it really intresting and is one of my favourite things about the programme too, all the behind the scenes facts and trivia, love it.
    Your channel is a prime example of this, love all the facts and info, genuinely really cool!

    Hey @DalekBumps I’ve got a question did the EagleMoss Dalek God Emperor come with a magazine, because mine did not, it didn’t even come in the box. If the figure did come with a magazine could you please showcase it on your channel, and likewise the box, I’m interested to see both and I can’t find them on google

    It's interesting, the idea that it's still somewhere in the tardis. The way the lore stands currently, the Dalek would eventually heal itself, since they're incapable of dying. Meaning eventually, one would be released in a crippled case somewhere deep in the ship.

  • @unimpressedlink2507

    Odd they didn’t bother to use the Metaltron skirt as well, seeing as it featured damage as well, and the sections were commonly seen together in exhibitions, as well as in on set photos from the filming of Dalek.

    The way the prop is positioned makes me wish the Dalek mutants were more human. The one-eyed squids are hard to take seriously. But what if instead they were shrivelled up degenerate humanoids with contorted limbs and mechanical attachments ? Like servitors.
    It would far better play into the body horror aspect of Daleks.

  • @Just-Plain-Potential
    @Just-Plain-Potential Před 5 měsíci

    I was told that after the MetalTron mutant prop was used for the emperor, the water ruined the anamtronics, so it would explain why they cut the face off it and used it for the corpse, and then made a new one for Caan, the Prime Minister and Rusty (and used CGI for Sec cos there was no way that could have beed done physically without looking really fake)
