The group posted liner notes for their album, which includes each member talking about their B-side identity (Beast, Bishop, Bubble, etc) and some details on each song. Here is what is written about RING ma Bell
"This story is about after the loud siren ringing in the beginning of the title track "RING X RING" of Billlie's debut album, which heralded the start of Billlie. It describes the feelings we have at a turning point in our lives as we grow up like becoming an adult from a child and becoming a member of society from a student, and the new beginning and determination.
A Strong track about amazing loooking at the new world and determination to start again when exhausted."

Seriously tho, Ring My Bell have one of the hardest guitar riffs I've ever heard on kpop scene so far, probably after N.Flying's Lupin and Flowerworks (which is my all time favorite j-rock slash k-rock song). That title track is ROCK rock. Also, the audio directing is top notch. Everything sounds balance af without over powering each other. Seriously one of the best rock song of this generation. And what made it held up is the members vocals who also suitable with the song. Most kpop group who try to do a "rock concept" tend to lack in the vocal aspect cuz they didn't have the right sounds to it. Other than the obvious rock vocalist like Yoo Hweseung from N.Flying and Lee Hongki from FT Island, the only group that actually have "rocker" vocalist that I could think of is Seventeen's Seungkwan, BtoB Eungkwang, Mamamoo Solar and Hwasa, and Dreamcatcher's Siyeon. Other than them, the idols who did the rock concept usually ended up being too soft-pop-y rather than pop-rock-y. But Billlie's vocals all held up well, they have power and passion and actually sounds like they were having fun. Even for the members with a weaker or softer voice, are all able to corporate their voice in a way that add something to the track. Everything is perfect and a definite 10/10 for me lol 🙈
I just hope the audio is holding up well in music show stage perfomance since they tend to downplay the MR to accomodate the singer's vocals :') the lack of real instrument sounds are really jarring in this kind of set up. This is one of the reason why I don't really like when kband have to perform on music shows, since they aren't allowed to play their instruments live for the sake of time managment 😭😭

What I first thought when I saw this song was, the idiom! The idiom of "Ring a bell" which means, If you say that something rings a bell, you mean that it reminds you of something, but you cannot remember exactly what it is. [informal] The name doesn't ring a bell. So in this case, they are using that for them. Like saying, "Ring ma bell" They are trying to remember how to solve their problems. Each member here trying to solve their problems that probably goes on their minds or themselves to be precise. When a problem occurs, they ring their bell, to which each member does when that dark thing comes close to them.
And, in the end, the cat girl or whoever you call it 😂 show up, it kinda looks like the cat; NOVEMBER to me. Like it's the human form of the cat.
These are all just my thoughts and such 😅 This is what I first thought watching it. I could probably be wrong too.
Anyway, DG your reactions and theories are amazing. Your explanations are probably better than me. Now when I watch this for the 4th time, it could be a metaphor too. 🤔 But, as always, you somehow manage to get things on point.

@@DGReacts No problem DG! But you were pretty close! I mean, we get so excited that we forget half of the things going on 😂 I mean, I do! Sometimes, someone always has to ring a bell to me to remember things. So I live in that state all the time so, that's I thought of the idiom first when I watched the video 😂 Anyway, it's true! You got most of the stuff right though. 😸

I'm so happy that more and more bands are trying the rock or punk concept. a genre that is not the most popular in my country. DC is the first female group to have tried it. but now bands like Purple Kiss, Pixy or Billlie are trying their luck. the concept is more punk whereas DC has a more Metal or Baby Metal genre.
this group must have its current success largely thanks to TSUKI the main dancer of the group and a very expressive Japanese member on stage. that stage presence and charisma helped the group a lot. Moon SUA is another popular member of the group because like Bahyihhiy of Kep1er she is part of a sibling of idols and her older brother is a member of the group ASTRO.

You've missed G-idle Tomboy comeback, I guess? It was pretty rock-ish and huuuuge this year.
In addition to viral Tsuki and Moon Sua's older brother they also have Sheon, who was GP999 contestant and finished in top10. And, as you know, top9 debuted in Kep1er, so she is pretty popular.
And also Billie is a group under SM sub-label, which also can impact group popularity in a good way.
So they have pretty strong background and have chances to be hmmm... how to say that... pretty high tier group? I don't think they can beat groups like IVE, NewJeans, Le Sserafim or Nmixx, but maybe they can compete against groups like Lightsum, tri.be and purple kiss?
And looks like each of their comebacks was pretty strong

@@bigparadox9093 ni din't include (G)IDLE because rock is not they're main concept but you're right TOMBOY is super rockish . for SHEON i didn't really notice her on GP999 to me she was pretty invisible if you compare with many very confidente chinese girls like
      SU RU QUI
      CAI BIN or
      FU YA NING

@@fabricemaire4433 you're right about everything there. But following your logic about gidle, it's also applied for groups like Purple Kiss, Pixy and Billlie. Each of those groups have few rock-ish tracks, but I don't think it's their main concept. BUT even if it's not their main concept and they're experimenting with sound, it's good to hear more rock and metal influence in kpop.
And I completely agree with you about gp999. C-Line was really strong on the show and I'm surprised that only one member finished in debut group. But looking at kepler sound and concept right now, I'm actually happy that c-line is not really there.

@@bigparadox9093 no no I think bands like PIXY and Purple Kiss clearly have a basic rock concept that's their main concept. but (G)IDLE is more in urban, hip hop, or oriental concept. Even if Soyeon likes to experiment with new things. We know his taste for rap. and (G)IDLE is Soyeon. For G999 you are right. I remember during the final view the last participant I said to myself where they are making a group with a cute concept taking girls like MYAH, YESEO, BAYIHHIY, YURINA, MASHIRO, BORA, CHAEHYUN etc... where they were forming a group more girl crush with SU RU QUI, XIAO TING, FU YA NING, YOUNGEUN, HIKARU, DAYEON etc..

The song slaps, their concept is anime-adaption worthy (seriously, I want this lol), the b-sides are excellent as always. Billlie is slowly becoming one of the most consistently good groups of this gen and they've only been around for 2 seconds!

  • @Dardove
    @Dardove Před 2 lety +24

In their lore, Billlie Love is a real person that went missing and was taken by a big black thing. It is also a metaphor for their other hidden side (their B Side). It is also a name that her friends took up after she went up (notice in the story video, Siyoon didn't take off the mask at the end). You really need to check out Ring X Ring (and the lore videos that go with it). It will probably help you make a bit more sense of the lore side of things.
The Billage of Perception (which Ring X Ring and this falls under) is supposed to focus on the physical journey of trying to find Billlie while The Collective Soul And Unconscious (which GingaMingaYo falls under) is more about dreams and the unconscious.
Billlie isn't the one haunting them. It is the big black thing that was, while November (which could represent Billlie Love) seemed to protect them from it. Though lore wise they are certainly a bit haunted by the lies of Billlie going missing.
It could be reset as in putting things back to the way things were before Billlie went missing.
Belllie've is their fandom name. So that line was a reference to their fans.
Light flipping is also likely a reference to their song Fl!pping A Coin.
Seriously, check out Ring X Ring (and the story videos that go with it).

What I really, really love is this song is almost a payoff of Ring x Ring? "Sound of my heart ringing with all my might, you wait here, I'm going to save you, oh-oh-oh-oh, when your bell rings" and now it's feeling like they're very much saying that yeah, I'm going to step up and save you, but you need to call out too so we can get through this together. The cat is mentioned in Ring x Ring as well. "I don't know, where did she go go, there's no cat." And then sonically this is like a pay off to Ring x Ring also, because I feel like that flirted with jrock and here we are very rock-ish. I need to catch up on the lore videos but I'm just so impressed with how satisfying this comeback feels. I started off the morning with a giant grin on my face.

I liked (but didn't love) "Ring x Ring" and really did NOT like "GingaMingaYo", so I almost dropped them. Thats why "RING ma Bell" is such a great surprise. Love it. My favorite from them by far. More rock elements in K-Pop are always wonderful to see and this concept works perfectly for them. Not sure how much mainstream success they can have with this direction (see Dreamcatcher i.e.) but I personally love it. They also raised the production values quite a bit. Hope they succeed.
