I am 65, an old fart from a different generation. I started carrying a pocket knife in 2nd grade. I earned one because I could prove to my Dad that I knew how to put a razor edge on it. When I was driving at age 15, after getting an ag hardship license, I carried a 30-30 in the gun rack in my truck, that I paid for, not my parents. I ran trap lines in the winter, sold the pelts. I used a knife to skin the coons. I still carry a knife every day.
I'm 49. Carried a rifle to school in my car. Pretty sure I was the last class that could do that
Im 37 and I dont know the first thing about running a trap line lol. My generation has lost a lot of those skills your generation has.
As you get older flashlights become more important. It’s probably my most used tool.
I bought a Lumintop Tool AAA pocket flashlight about 8 years ago, just on a whim, not expecting to use it much. I carry it every day and usually use it multiple times every day.
Yep my favorite that's always in a little holster pouch on my belt is the streamlight micro stream.. high and low settings that's all I need and rechargeable.. I can shine a light on a piece of paper and it's bright enough to read the fine print without reading glasses.. so many times I'm looking for something and I use my trusty flashlight
i made sure to have (small and cheap) flashlights in many places of my flat. plus one on my keyring and a better one in my EDC pouch and in every backpack.
At 44, I’m glad it’s become “cool” to have a flashlight in your pocket, nobody makes fun of me anymore. Now if we can just make reading glasses and TUMS cool….
You are so right! Both of my parents need to borrow my flashlight so that they can read menus when we go out. But ultimately, it is Viagra that gives my most important tool the ability to function.
Im adding extra strength pain killer to this list. If you're in pain, there's a good chance you will slow waaaay down or even just wear out and give up. Learn to take the meds dry since you may not have water. You may even need to wash it down with chewed up leaves or grass/flowers/berries etc so knowing what grows around you is imperative! THE MORE YOU KNOW THE LESS YOU HAVE TO CARRY
The whole point of why pain developed in us is to warn us not to use the body part, until you have found a cause for the pain and treated it. Pain meds that just cover up the pain while you continue to move will make the situation worse
@@DrSchor I'm thinking more along the lines of getting home, as opposed to being stranded out in the elements where you might die.
you have it backwards. the more you carry the less you have to know.
I started reading One Second After about a week ago during breaks. Wow. Everyone should read it.
I finished the One second after series literally three weeks almost to the day before the “pandemic” began. After I read the series I immediately started prepping!
I did the audiobook between service calls. I had to pull over with the dog part.
No, it's just dust in my eyes.
If I have pants on, I have a knife on me. Have carried a knife since cub scouts 55 years ago. Usually now carry a multi-tool but still use the knife more than anything a on it. Great video, guys 😎✌️
I like my Casio G-Shock solar powered watches. I have one still running since 2011. Runs like a champ!
Very waterproof too
@@ian5780 Yes, they are!
Back in 1990 when I was a limousine driver.. I was picking up a customer at Westchester county airport.. a small airport here in Connecticut.. I was in the building and all the lights went out!! There weren't many windows in that old terminal and it was very very dark not many emergency lights for some reason either.. luckily I had a AA×2 mini maglite on me.. in fact some of the airport personnel asked if they could borrow it for a minute to do a task... It definitely proves the importance of a flashlight.. of course flashlights have improved so much with the LED and rechargeable lithium batteries. My current EDC flashlight is a streamlight microstream.. I use it all the time!
I keep a small medium grit Arkansas stone in my backpack. It works. Simple as it gets. Also, the hocky puck round stones are excellent for keeping an ax super sharp. The key for an ax is, do not use it until it will not cut butter. Sharpen it throughout your work / tasks. I recommend any of the good Northern European origin forest axes. They are smaller than American ax designs, and can be carried strapped to a pack quite easily. Also, make sure you have a cover for it to protect the blade.
Terava Skramma 240 and a Quality Folding Saw. I haven't touched an Ax in 6 years running around in the Bush.
We rented a house at the beach in NC last summer & all the kitchen knives were annoyingly dull! I happened to have a sharpening stone in my bag & quickly sharpened them up. I’m sure everyone that rented the house after me appreciated it!
My handbag is a bugout bag, I could be shipwrecked with my handbag and survive.
what exactly are you putting in your bag ???? Thank you !!!

I’ve been using a CASIO GW-5000 every single day for 6-7 years now, don’t remember taking it off except for cleaning with some dish soap. It’s been all over the world and it’s been through a lot…never been below full charge, definitely recommend it.
A good tip I just learned about Bic Lighters, cut the wrapper off. You can then see the fluid level.
Wait to cut off the label, it could help start a fire in the wet.
You can also buy white BICs. Or check the level when holding a (flash)light behind it. (Works with green, red and blue onea)
Bought 10 of the $3.00 Walmart multitools in case one fails 7 years ago and still waiting on the first one to fail. 😎
Oh why? I think you just wasted $27. Maybe 2, but come on, if it breaks just go to Walmart and buy another one.
@@Castleknight Actually....I gave 8 of them away for holiday gifts and no one has complained yet! 😃
@@Castleknight oh …sure Walmart will always be open till then end of time!
Great Video Don,Robbie,&Sarah Mac!!
If you are worried about an EMP destroying your quartz watch, put one in a faraday bag or buy a replacement movement - about $20 for most watches - and store it in a faraday bag. You can swap out the movement with a few simple tools. Once a manual wind watch goes, good luck finding someone to service it.
Some people magnetize watches when worn on their skin/wrist.
I bought a new watch and wrapped it in aluminum foil.
Timex "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' " go analog
Basic Plus! This is perfect. Bless you both.
My dad gave me a Swiss army SD tiny keychain knife in 1979.. so so handy that I have carried one on every keychain I have since that first one.. the blade comes in handy.. the nail file with the screwdriver tip I used to tighten screws in a pinch and it works on Phillips head and a pinch also. The scissors come in really handy especially for hangnails and broken nails and all kinds of trimming chores... The tweezers is great for pulling out splinters.. and a toothpick does come in handy when I get a aggravating piece of food caught in my teeth.. of course I carry a pocket folding knife also. My most carried one is the Spyderco delica.. it just works for me..
who would have thought a list of 10 items would take an hour to explain?
And no subtitles
They should list chapters for each product.

My thoughts exactly. Good guys but good lord!!! This is why I hate lives. Ppl just start rambling.
I know what you mean. Although it is a lot about reading between the lines. ..lives are convoluted affairs. It is knowledge or a check list.
Great video guys!!
My edc almost includes are the items you discussed.
I’ll be adding a compass and an Exotac fire steel to my extended EDC. Thanks Robbie for reminding me to get some refills for my FSP.
We are having a great summer so far here in England, a bandana is becoming very important, sweat and to stop my head burning 😂
I ripped my shorts at work recently. I’ve now added safety pins to my edc haha! I have a small repair kit on me most of the time; duct tape and needle and thread.
Cash cash cash!!!
One of the best things I ever purchased for EDC was the wazoo survival belt! I stuffed it with my own supplies. Everything miniaturized down in the belt is always on me.. waterproof matches and striker. Two tinder quicks.. and a mini feresium rod.. a water bag in water purification tablets...3×$20 . Mini fishing kit and spider wire fishing line... 20 ft of size #94 Paracord .. Swiss army SD keychain knife with scales removed to fit inside belt.. a mini razor knife and piece of hacksaw blade...1 day of my daily meds in a mini zip bag... 2-80mg aspirin ..2amodium 2 benedryl..2 peptos .2 bandaids 1 giant bandaid folded ...1 pack antibiotic.1 alcohol pad ..mini compass ...plastic handcuff key ..mini flashlight ... Besides the wazoo belt.& Contents.. I'm creating a very small pouch that can be put into a pocket.. it contains a mini Bic lighter.. with orange duct tape wrapped around it many times.. miniature thin cordage wrapped around the outside of the mini Bic lighter..@25 ft .. a mini micro pocket saw.. a small flashlight with AAA Eveready ultimate lithium battery ever any ultimate lithium battery... A brunton wrist compass...small Mylar blanket.mini whistle..... If wearing a jacket? other pocket has a thin lightweight poncho... Which can be turned into a shelter...
Are they fairly comfortable? How long do they hold up?
@@xderiwx I've been using my wazoo survival belt now for over a year.. no visible wear ! .. I actually went through a checkpoint accidentally security screening being "WANDED " .. it was only later I realized they didn't detect my wazoo survival belt or its contents
@@glenmones713 Excellent, thanks! I was worried since it’s Velcro, but it sounds like it holds up well! 👍🏻
The Wazoo stache hats are awesome as well!
I carried a pocket knife all my life up until I was 37 years old when I started a job that required me to be in and out of county courthouses all day. Some of the courthouse security would take your knife and give you a claim ticket to pick it up when you left. Others, like Fulton county, in the city of Atlanta would just confiscate it. They wouldn't even allow you to take it back out to your car, they just took it and threatened to make you leave if you objected. Now that I'm no longer working that job after 20 years, I'm back to carrying a knife all the time. I usually have a Benchmade 945 mini along with a SAK Tinker in my pocket and I also keep a Mora Kniv in each vehicle and smaller No.7 Opinels in the console's. The Opinels are great slicey little folders for impromptu food prep when you're out on the roadtrip. There's even an old school Buck 110 in the door pocket of my jeep.
Great updates. Cheers gentlemen.!
i know i'm late to the show, but it's been my experience with jury duty three times that a tactical pen and a flashlight are totally cool in a courthouse while my p38 can opener was confiscated from my key chain
I prefer a multitool for EDC as you are less likely to be pulled up by the police for carrying it than a fixed blade, as they are forbidden. But even then I would only carry the multitool when I have been using it or doing some tasks that may require its use. Get a Leatherman tool as they have a lifetime guarantee and I have used that when a spring broke.
I don't know where you can even buy a watch that has a replacement battery, most of them now are rechargeable which can be an issue, but a small solar battery pack to recharge from are easy to get. I find that a smart watch is more suitable for my needs and some have excellent health related functions that are handy for an old bloke like me.
Love these videos… keep ‘em coming
Thanks guy's. I like to watch your stuff...
Si, great content as always!
Awesome video!
Great Video and Info ! My EDC watch band is a NATO/EDC watchband, a Suunto button compass with a digital watch set to 24-Hour mode. I have only two Leatherman tools, the PST (Personal Survival Tool) that was a gift ! The other is the Leatherman "Mut" tool. My fire kit has a yellow pencil sharpener from Home Depot (to make tinder from a dry twig) ! tjl
I’m a fan of minimalism on my person. (Besides the obvious phone etc) Good quality folding knife, a bic lighter, chapstick and pepper spray. Everything else is in the car.
"EARTH ABIDES"! Wow, my dad gave that to me to read about 40 years ago! Ezra rocks! But earth abides.
More good stuff.
I have a Get Home Bag
The Get Home Bag comes with me if I plan on being away from my truck any length of time, like hiking or other outdoor activities.
I've been watching you for years love your stuff I back off of your show went found robbie subscribed and came back and finished this video
A disposable snap knife. Costs a dollar, small, lightweight, razor sharp.
And a few hard candies, they never expire, good for a few calories, comforting treat.
Dude is so baked everytime he comes on the show😂
I carry 3 knives daily on my belt is my CRKT Dragon fixed blade for defense, my CRKT Minimalist bowie knife, and my old timer Texas toothpick for digging splinters or cleaning my nails with lol I love knives and my Beretta 92X 9mm is my CCW with my handloaded 124 grain XTP's and a set of XS DXT2 Big Dot Tritium Night Sights
Looool I'm just short a compass! Good ones are pricey. My pro tip: get some velcro strip and wrap a couple around your flashlight. You can strap it to the side of your banana to make a head lamp
I keep cheap gear in my go bag in my truck. Only thinking about getting it stolen. The go bag at home has my good gear.
I found the posted link interesting, a preacher talking about what might be coming including EMP and advise people to prep.
Zippo makes great butane inserts for their lighters. They even make electronic ones that you can recharge with portable solar chargers
In a lot of cities, if you stab someone in self-defense or if you defend someone else's life by stabbing the criminal, you're the one who goes to jail.
Thank You for info but too long for me, gotta get busy. Stay Safe God Bless.
The Casio Duro MOV-106 is a great budget watch. Water resistant ro 200 meters. Screw down back and crown. Rubber divers band. Battery operated. Around $50!!!
Zippo brand torch insert has been good to me
Loving the Jocko Podcast Tee!
I love me work sharp field sharpener! Portable budget friendly great tool.
I have a torch shaped like a standing snake, the tail tip is the trigger. I’m clumsy. Can’t count how many times I’ve dropped it or knocked it off the counter. The most durable, reliable torch I have seen.
My most used edc light is a snap on pen light not the brightest but bright enough and fits my shirt pocket like a nice pen
You can use epoxy or JB weld to secure & waterproof the handle of the HF survival knife.
I’ve been wearing the same watch every single day for 7 years. It’s a fake g shock from Walmart and it is solar powered and was less than 20 bucks. I’m only on my second one. The first one lasted for about 5 years. It was still working when I retired it. A piece of the band broke and that’s why I retired it. I have 2 real g shocks and some other watches that are 150 to 250 dollar watches that I never wear just because this watch has just really impressed me and it’s just right for me. The only time I change watches is when I need a nice dress watch and it’s always a fossil that my wife got me for our first anniversary.
I know that ASP used to sell an attachment that can attach to the end cap of the baton that can be used as a glass breaker. And it doesn't take any more real estate on your duty belt. And it hardly weighs anything.
Sootch has enough items to outfit a couple hundred people with everything they should carry everyday.
He's a salesman, so he has all this shit, in order to do his CZcams channel, but damn, he's almost a hoarder when it comes to EDC and guns. I hope he sells a lot of this stuff on the regular, as nobody needs all this stuff.
In Tennessee it's carry anything open or concealed. Autos, axes, swords. All legal.
But you have to take a class before you're allowed to carry a stick.
Thats a sweet looking South Carolina hat
I enjoyed your conversation about wrist watches. As for quartz versus mechanical, I have the opposite situation. For some reason, hand-wind watches will not run on me. That's sad, but automatics run, and quartz watches run just fine, so I still have options 👍
My Dad had a problem with mechanical watches. Only a few brands would keep time accurately. They told him that he had too much electricity in his system. He ran on nervous energy for decades. He used to fly from Central Washington to San Francisco and go to Golden Gate Auto Auction. Buy two cars and tow one back driving all night.
Seiko has a solar watch with a charge that can last a couple to three weeks.
I collect dryer lint that I roll up a store in an old medication bottle as a fire tender.
Recycle old cotton pillow cases as bandanas - can make different lengths and add straps.
LOL - guys if a women has a dress on she can get a thigh strap holster. Holds my .380 perfectly🤣
My dinky little flash light puts out 220 L. But it's only good for 20 minutes. So a little larger light is smarter, for run time...
05:00 here in Illinois, we have some of the most absurd gun laws in the country, by some amazing twist, we have no state restrictions on knives! Some require a State Police FOID card to carry (autos, OTF, switchblades) but they’re still legal to carry if you do have a FOID. The only thing that will get you in trouble is using a knife to commit a crime (or trying to take one into a courthouse or a school or anywhere with a metal detector, but even then they will just tell you to take it to your car and come back).
13:00 I get the $1.97 pen lights from Walmart, two or three at a time. You can buy new ones for less than the cost of new batteries.
I have a couple of friends who are women that carry guns in a holster that hangs from the middle of their bra! You can make it face left or right and (because your breasts stick out to various degrees😊)the pew pew stick tucks neatly underneath them and then if you have to access the protection, you just lift the front of your shirt up and grab your it.
Do you have a source?
I have an olight the clips onto a hat bill.
Keep a light with replaceable easy to find batteries the olights are great but I carry a smaller AA powered light for my EDC those more powerfull lights are around just might not be on me am looking into the flat lights
I'd like to converse with you South Carolina more country prepares about urban prepping. There are so many things people in small towns, rural places can and should do that are not practical here in an urban area like Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Portland or now South Cities like Charlotte NC, Nashville TN, Atlanta etc. I know people in the South don't use mass transit or walk much (that's a shame) everything is about being safe in their cars, trucks or then on a camping trip when they can carry backpacks, bear sprays and firearms.
That's really not practical and will call attention to someone here in a big city, University community.
One tool I highly recommend for urban prepping is:
A small concealable video recorded, one that can be easily uploaded to a desktop computer and edited to make your/our version of the encounter fit our narrative and not the "Woke", Antifa, Lugenpresse, BLM narrative.
Some of the key events in my lifetime have been.
Rodney King beating followed by mass riots after the police were found not guilty
The death of drug dealer George Floyd with a police officer kneeling on Floyd and a short section of the video where Floyd says; "I can't breath".
These encounters are heavily, heavily edited by the lying press to make the Cops look like bad guys or even killers - the police in Minneapolis were actually prosecuted and convicted for murder.
In the Rodney King case the media never showed Rodney King's car driving at over 100 MPH or resisting police orders to stay in the car, fighting with police, resisting takers etc. Same with George Floyd.
With Kyle Rittenhouse there was video that eventually exonerated him - video of ANtifa thugs (one with serious sexual crimes in his past) attacking Kyle with skateboard club and actually hand guns shooting at Kyle.
The infamous Rolling Stones Altamont CA concert where Hell's Angels security killed a Black A American with a knife went to trial but the HA was found not guilty because a video showed the deceased had a drawn gun.
All of this hinged on (edited) video. So to be prepared, regular Americans should carry some video recording device and learn how to edit the video in short segments to present the preppier person's narrative, not the Anti American Woke, Antifa, Lib Leftist, BLM's narrative.
I would say that a video camera is more important for urban survival than pretty much everything else in that preppier bag.
Boy Scout 10 Essentials + a few adult things, water, food bars.
Do we have bot scouts now? I am so far behind!
isn't water and food already on the scout list?
Was it bear spray, pepper spray or both that they said not to leave in a hot car?
Both have a pressurized contents. You shouldn't leave either in a hot car. Valves can leak. If that happens, you won't want to drive your car for a while.
@Jimbo Alogo yes but when you return to your overheated car, you can be sure there are no bears in there...

I am a single blind lady and I thought I wouldn’t need no flashlights cause I can’t see anyways but let me tell you I keep them all over my house my vehicle that when I go somewhere and somebody is driving me and I have a get home bag people thinks that I’m just over the top with that. I told him to pack the car the way they want to and leave me alone lol.

It is wonderful that you talk about things that are good to have, but can you put a list of them for those of us that don't know the actual name of the items. I tried to find one of the flash lights you mention, but I think I am miss spelling the name I thought I heard you say. Was Merado Flashlight? I searched with that spelling and no luck.
😊 I appreciate all the fire starting info that your videos supply. However, I've lived my life on the high plains. What am I going to start on fire, prairie grass??? Much cheaper option to bear spray is bee spray. I keep a can in each vehicle. 25 ft of the foaming spray in the eyes would not be a good time. Big can, only a few bucks, and it’s bee spray if you have to kill some wasps. Not as suspicious either.

I never need a flashlights while I’m out. I have light in my car, garage house. Just add weight.😮.
Might add that the piezoelectric lighters will work even if you get them wet.
For those in law enforcement, do not count on your baton to take out a car window. It won't work. You need a good knife with a window punch.

Great list, but I’d certainly add water bottle with caffeine pills and electrolyte packets.
You should never have to sharpen a karambit. It should only be used for one purpose, hopefully once in your life, if ever.
