I think dead a daily for sure as fuel taxes are going to turn a lot of cars into Sunday cars and coffee vehicles .

First off, let us define just what is a Muscle-car. By most, it is a four-place inexpensive car, primarily a two-door, with a lot of power. As it is "inexpensive", is is commonly known to have "second rate" suspensions, brakes, transmissions and is not appointed well. Now some of these definitions can be applied towards performance four-door sedans, up to & including the Teslas. What is a common theme seems to be that of a four-seater & large and heavy. If one addresses either or both of these two commonalities, things change rather quickly. As an example, the Alfa 4C could have been a true wonder, IF Alfa had stuffed a lightweight 450 Hp V8 inside...weight is everything. If the current Mustang could "shrink" & lose 700+ lbs., much would change...yes the four-place Mustang would have to have been a tight fit inside...but the rewards would have outweighed the tight quarters. The fuel savings would track the loss of weight proportionately. The new Corvette, the Mustang and Camaro...all three are within a couple hundred pounds of another, at 3500 lbs.

Yes, the idea here is that the traditional large displacement V8 with RWD, even when taken to the extreme, is unable to compete against other designs. The Mustang and Camaro have evolved into high performance sports cars that can hold their own on the track against the best offerings from Germany or Italy.
