Always glad to see RDR2 was somebody else's covid-crisis game. Appreciated that the type was so well-done - I was going nuts with the dialogue anachronisms in the game so it was nice to see the design side survived scrutiny.
Ha! I guess the anachronisms in dialogue would jump out more to Americans. Only spotted a few typographic mistakes - a few uses of the straight quotation mark (an invention for the typewriter, and later, digital type) on "hand painted" signage and the like. But overall, Rockstar does a great job with the production design in-world. The posters from the original RDR are a different story!
8:30 Fonts with this sort of "inverted" contrast were also known generically as "Italian" if I remember correctly, at least in Spain. Cool video! Really liked it.
Ah I loved watching this. I was blown away by the quality of the assets in RDR2 too. The posters, adverts, books, shop windows. Spent hours just walking around taking it all in. Having seen the indices here, ever considered a video on wingdings/dingbats?
I cannot stop watching. Something very soothing about your videos, entertaining and informative at the same time. (Doesn't hurt that I've always loved fonts, design, and illustration. In another universe I became the successful illustrator I always wanted to be.)
I notice that sans serif on all the in game posters looks to be Swiss 911 BT, either condensed or ultra condensed. The R always stands out to me, but then the C, the U, the B and a few others confirm it. But I couldn’t find any info (from Googling the name and creation date) of when that font actually originated, as to whether it would be used in 1899 or not.
Really appreciate how the wild west sheriff offices with their limited selection of wood types used font more effectively than the typical modern Comic Sans lovers.
I feel the W and A of WANTED should move a little closer together. That's called kerning isn't it? But it wouldn't be possible when printing using wood type... So, an accurate representation?
That’s really cool! The huge demand for advertising due to mass literacy makes so much sense, but I’d never put those two ideas together
I'm in love with your videos. They are so cosy and well produced. I keep clicking on the videos and when I look that the time, 2 hours passed.

RDR2 was also one of my lockdown games. It hadn't grabbed me when it first came out and I was still at the camp by the river.

Great content. Subbed
that's actually pretty cool
I'm from Milwaukee and honestly have to wonder if Alexander Cohen is related to anyone I know. Possibly my uncle's ex. common name, but still.
