The Marantz Cinema 40 is a 9.2 channel 125W reference-level AV receiver featuring Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Auro 3D, 8K Ultra HD and HEOS® Built-in streaming.
The new introduction of DIRAC as calibration software convinced me to buy it to test it, but not only since i am coming from separate AV components and wish to have less gears on my busy rack setup, for a cleaner and elegant all in one solution.

Finally get to see a more in depth review of audio equipment, not so much on technical test, but test with different gear and the experience that it gave to you and to put it all into words for others to understand what the gear does and what you would recommend based on your own test, like using the emotiva for three channel sounding better then applying all the power to the rest of your speakers.

I went with the Cinema 40. Simply because it´s better than the 50. It suits my needs very well and my M&K S150 7.1 system sounds great with that avr.

Finally a great detailed review. Bravo! Trying to decide between the 40, 50 or MR1 myself. MR1 might have the power but lacks the software design of the Marantz by a country mile. Decisions, decisions. Thank you!

Marantz nailed it again, nice aesthetics too. I'm a big fan of Dirac Live and using it for a week now with amazing results. It would be interesting to see it compared to other DSP's.

I guess you were hoping to bi-amp the massive center channel, right? 😊. When you bi-amp LR can you power externally?
I noticed you have an unusual setup with stereo and home theater - couldn’t you switch to one? I saw the McIntosh beast - is there no way to use an AVR and a stereo amp and connect to the same mains?
Out of curiousity, have you used the 7000 or 8000 Marantz AVRs? If so, how does the Cinema 40 stack up to those?
Thank you, yes i was meaning have the possibility to bi-amp the center channel or be more flexible with configuration! Regarding the Mcintosh i used to have it on my home theater for the front speakers but too many compromises in Stereo so preferred to keep the 2 thing separate in the end. Cinema 40 is the first receiver that i test but i had some Denon before them..thx for watching
An extraordinary job!!!!! Allow me a query; the differences that it contributes, with respect to the SR 7000, are for it to cost 800 euros more? I think not, it's the same electronics, it doesn't even have a toroidal transformer. Thank you very much for your work!!!!!!

Ciao Mad posseggo il cinema 40 in configurazione 7.1.2 siccome ascolto anche musica in 2ch secondo te mi conviene prendere un integrato 2ch con esclusione del pre così lo uso come finale 2ch per l ht e quando ascolto musica uso direttamente la sua sezione pre , oppure meglio prendere un finale 4ch e sfruttarne 3 per le LCR? Nel caso per ottimizzare il tutto vado di musical fidelity con Marantz?
Ultima cosa, a tuo a l’avviso in puro HT questo Marantz è alla pari come dettagli e dinamica agli Yamaha aventage ? Grazie

With last firmware upgrade your have the possibility to set any channels in pream mode, is working great 👌🏾

@AudioClown the test with Emotiva is in the review! If u mean disable the speaker out and enable only preamp, yes i did also this but i didn't noticed any particular audible difference!

My issues with this unit are:
It is considered as a flagship while it is just a SR7015 replacement...
The used DACS are at best just average...to me really below the AKMs ones within the SR lines...
Built quality compares to the actual SR8015 flagship put itself in shame 😢 (got both!)
Speakers bindings are low cost...no copper...no toroidal...
Conclusion it is just a midrange average receiver with (a kind of) Marantz sound...

Grazie mille, Marantz e Denon hanno fatto passi da giganti integrando Dirac, ed il prossimo anno arriva anche Dirac Bass Control! YAMAHA A6A Dovrebbe arrivare da recensire..

Requiring a separate amp to run 11 channels is a deal breaker for me other than that looks great I'm still using the Denon 6700h for the time being ..

Yes but the big difference is the introduction of DIRAC, something only for Cinema series! Will speak about it in tomorrow video, stay tuned!
Non ho ben capito se è possibile installarlo in un setup con 7.2.4 canali. Forse aggiungendo un amplificatore? Perché in effetti dietro i collegamento per 11 canali ci sono.

Hi, does the tonality change with parasound amps as well. And if I use the cinema 40 in 2 channel mode, will those 2 speakers get full 125 w of power. Thanks
Didn't test the Parasound yet but i will for sure, in stereo you get full specs power where with more channel ls Marantz Garantie the 70% of it!

@@mohsinalimohammed1371 i don't know ypu setup so hard to say it, Marantz Cinema 40 Tonality is pretty detailed and open where adding the Emotiva that has a warm Tonality changed a little bit the object focus and localization as i said in the review, just try and take in consideration Dirac live (video review available)!

Really great review video. I am considering selling my Denon X6700H and purchasing a Marantz CInema 40 as i have got ane external amplifier for my Front LCR (8ohms ar 190w per channel). I also have 1 PB2000 Pro subwoofer, looking to add another soon but do you think this would be a worthy replacement for the X6700?
GIven it's got Dirac I think that could be the game changer over the X6700.
Dirac is definitely a game changer, if is worth the money upgrade the X6700H that is a superb and pretty new reciver is hard to say it, take in consideration that Denon/Marantz will release a new Dirac bass control feature next year, maybe i will wait a little bit more, look like also retail price is going down so..

My Pioneer Sclx901 has 11 channels and class D amplification giving true exact power to all channels, it cost me £1900 in the UK 5 years ago, I certainly would be looking for this sort of spec from this Marantz, sadly not.
They rate that a 140w 2 channels driven at one specific frequency. Very few avrs actually give real all channel driven numbers since it’s an unrealistic scenario. I imagine it’s in line power wise with the marantz which is rated at 125w 2 channels but a full frequency range
I agree with you: fans should *never* be included in an amplifier. Do you know if the Cinema 50 has fans, too?
Nonid didn’t test the Cinema 50, btw I never heard the dans on the 40, probably are there just for precaution!

Non faccio più i video in Italiano da moltissimo tempo, purtroppo vivendo in Germania non è stato possibile lavorare con i distributori Hi-Fi Italiani ed essendo un hobby molto costoso non potevo recensire solo quello che acquistavo..

Too expensive that’s a lot of money I’d be perfectly fine with a denon 3800 for 1499
