    The really neat thing about this track in particular, I feel, is that depending on your mood and certain contexts (especially in-game context), the music can go from upbeat and groovy to relaxing and pensive all the way to sad and depressing. It's like a mirror that reflects your thoughts, which is fitting, considering where this plays.

    One of my favorites from Persona 5!!
    I love how in the quiet part, the drums start again offset by one 8th beat, which totally took me by surprise when I first listened to it. Don't know much VGM that does that kinda stuff and isn't from a rather niche game.

    • @JJStylies
      @JJStylies Před 2 lety +8

      This is my favorite part of the song, they do it to set up an 'early' entrance into the chorus and it's so satisfying.
      Also, it kind of forces you out of the groove unless you're counting and keeping track, and I find that really relatable to depression.

    • @AiZm8
      @AiZm8 Před rokem

      @@JJStylies Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean counting and keeping track as in when you have depression, you can only stay on track if you're accounting for all your success and failures and being on top of what's happening? (obviously counting and keeping track for the offset beat but I mean for the depression analogy to clarify)

    • @JJStylies
      @JJStylies Před rokem +1

      @@AiZm8 I mean that depression/anxiety distorts your view of the world, especially in the context of depression as a mental illness (the way it's portrayed in Futaba), it's often a huge effort to just remember what is truly healthy or the average.
      I'm gonna give a personal example, which is extremely dark, so content warning to anyone who doesn't want to read that.
      As a teenager, I thought everyone had suicidal thoughts. I thought it was just normal because no one talked about it and a lot of people joked about it, and I had those thoughts. I'm actually really surprised this wasn't requested more. I think what's so special to me about the Persona games and the SMT series in general is that music very rarely seems to take a backseat. While most games will try to give the player some exciting, often orchestral track during battles or serious moments, often times they don't make the same effort in other spots. You find in a lot of games that moments like crawling through dungeons or wandering the open world is paired with relatively simple, ambient tracks that loop the entire time. Which I get it, you want to save a lot of the more bombastic or interesting stuff for when things really matter, not when a player is mindlessly fighting monsters in some random dungeon. But SMT and Persona don't really do that. This track in particular is used for a single dungeon. You never hear it repeated in other parts of the game, and once the dungeon is over, that's it. All of this effort and creativity was put into a single place the player explores, with every other dungeon having their own tracks. That's not even mentioning how there's two separate battle themes for whether you ambush or run into an enemy, different usage of vocals/instruments when it's raining in the world, boss fight songs that save the lyrics until some of the last encounters in the game, and more.
    It's nice to have a series that knows the importance of music not only in the big dramatic moments, but sometimes when you're just wandering from place to place, exploring the world. It makes it feel like every moment is something of note and not some throw away content the devs shoved in to bloat the experience.

      I do agree if they added generic dungeon music, it would take away from the uniqueness each area, and detract from this game much more than it would from any another game. Each area needs it's own emotional impact with not only sights, but sound as well. Another way to get nostalgic, feel, and remember it.

    The guitar style used in this song is exclusively used for sad musics in Persona 5, this is the only time it's used on a Dungeon theme. The soundtrack trained you to associate this guitar with sadness to remind you the dungeon is a mix of tech, energy and sadness.

    Relistening to this track and hearing your comments made me realise something. With how the track has this constant repeated melody throughout almost the entire song using different instruments. It made me think of how this fits into fits into futabas story arc and how it reflects how she is constantly replaying the memories of her mother when she was there. No matter what she does in her day, that earworm of a melody, those bittersweet memories will always be playing in the back of her mind. The days when her mother was there. Or it’s 9am and I haven’t slept since yesterday so I’m sleep deprived lol.

    @Darkkfated Před rokem +2

    Persona is pretty damn hard to describe, but for context I'll try to do the short short version.
    Basically, each Dungeon in the game (called a "palace") is a representation of the twisted mind of a criminal.
    Until you get to this one. In this "palace" you're trying to help a teenage girl (and future party member?) come to terms with her mother's untimely death, all while fighting her literal inner demons. This track plays the entire time you're wandering around her "palace" and aren't in combat. The only bad part is that, in game, the BGM is a bit quiet and compressed and there's a lot of sound effects going on as you sneak around, solving environmental puzzles, trying to avoid fights or sneak up on monsters for a free round, etc... so the track unfortunately gets drowned out a lot.
    I actually didn't like it much as a dungeon theme until I heard it on CZcams and went, "Oh, THIS is what it's supposed to sound like!? That's ten times better than what I was hearing in-game!"

    this easily ties with Whims of Fate for my favourite dungeon OST -- such good musics compared to other dungeon OSTs

    This is my favorite music in Persona 5~
    Can you believe it plays in a Cyber Pyramid stage?

    Spent 300h+ on the game, and it was well worth it haha
    You can't go wrong with : will power, layer cake, blooming vilain, tokyo emergency, price, keeper of lust, the whims of fate, take over, no more what ifs, prison labor, gentle mad man, ideal and the real, I believe, keep your faith, throw away your mask ❤

    If you’re going to listen to P5 please listen to Yaldabaoth/Our Beginning and if you decide to listen to another P3 song I recommend either Light in Starless Sky or Self Redemption which are movie songs that fit extremely well with the game

    One of the better Palace themes for sure. Incidentally it's also one of the most annoying to play through XD
    Overall a great segment of the game though. HUGE story development, nobody spoil it for ppl that haven't played P5 please.
    Futaba is just such a great character.
    EDIT: Yeah P5 is the latest entry, but 6 has been confirmed and it's weird they haven't revealed it yet. Atlus should be showing it before the year is over as part of the 25th anniversary.
    You mentioned that it seems like they took their sweet time - that's because they did. P5 had a 6+ year development cycle and it shows.
    Even crazier is Atlus has said that 6 to be even bigger and better. They certainly set the bar pretty damn high.
    Can't help but wonder if Lyn will be back for 6 or not.

      Considering every Persona game has their own lead singer, I don't think we'll hear any Lynn at all in P6. They'll probably introduce someone new for better representation of change of tone/story.

    I sort of don't understand why some people don't like this specific ost. Personally, I like this one because of the instrumental chorus plus the guitar and the vibe it gives off feels like you are curious about something and you want to know more of it
