    I'm 45 minutes into this video, and it is amazingly good. I was going to quit at the beginning because the audio is not coming through on both headphones, but I'm so glad I didn't! It is really impressive for Eli to be so clear and easy to understand based on just standing in front of a white board talking and occasionally drawing a quick sketch. I will definitely watch more of his videos if they're all this great.

    @skytechbits Před 6 lety +3

    Every marketing information for cloud computing points out the possible hardware failure that might happen. It is rare for hardware to fail. Also if the hardware does fail more than likely the data on the hard drive is just fine. The most important thing to consider when one considers cloud computing or onsite servers, would be control over your server that has all of your data on it. You either trust a cloud service to have control or trust control of the hardware/software by you at your location where you can actually see it there.
    Those decisions have to come from an evaluation of the business needs first. I believe a hybrid situation would be best most of the time, however, that is just my opinion based on my past technical experience.
    I come from the generation who actually built the server and then could see it running in front of me, so I believe in controlling your own data to only be saved at your location and in a backup. Of course you do need to always do daily backups no matter which one you choose. It is important to talk to a cloud professional about your own business operations, goals, and budget before making a decision. Also not being able to own the software you pay for does not seem right, especially after you pay more than what it would have cost to own it. Subscriptions provides lots of income to large corporations and is confusing people as to what the dollar is worth anymore.

    • @fasteddylove876
      @fasteddylove876 Před 5 lety

      I agree. Subscription is really deceptive. Most people only think in terms of the next monthly payment. Let's say it's $20 a month. OK, no problem huh. ------------------------------------------------- Well that $20 a month is $240 a year. Over 3 years that same $20 a month is $720. Quite a bit of change for a single user. And quite a bit of money for the software publishers...who hopefully are maintaining that software, providing updates, getting rid of bugs.

    guys i have a doubt! During time:43:20 or so in the video it ws told the management software like vsphere has the ability to switch between various ESXi servers.in case of power failure to ESXi server1 how can the management software access the harddisk to move the server to other backup server?

    • @theguycalledbrandon
      @theguycalledbrandon Před 9 lety +10

      salehundam preetham Hey I am actually a Presales Architect that supports VMware technologies. The ability to migrate a virtual machine from one host to another in the case of a planned migration is called vMotion it first copies the data that makes up the virtual machine and sends it to the other hosts server (storage vMotion), once thats complete it then replicates the memory state to the second host, ones its all syned up it shuts off the instance on the 1st host.
      In the event of an unexpected outage (power failure, flood etc) vMotion wont help you there is a technology called High Availability that can restart the virtual machine on another host in the cluster. This is a restart of the virtual machine and it requires server/host #1 and Server/host #2 to have access to the same shared storage (SAN, NAS). If each host/server is running off its own independant disks those disks will stop spinning if the server fails and you would be able to access the VM's files which make up the virtual machine to be able to restart it on another host.
      another solution to the above problem if the server all have internal disk is to replicate the storage from server/hsot #1 to server/host #2 on an ongoing basis, that way when host #1 fails the files for the virtual machines exist on host #2 and can be restarted and run on host #2.

    • @unclecrusty1991
      @unclecrusty1991 Před 8 lety

      I was wondering the same thing. I dont understand how there is any time to transfer the data(assuming the vsphere has to copy or read the data from the dying server to copy it) to the new server.

    • @yusufali4872
      @yusufali4872 Před 8 lety

      I think the answer to that is that it is the management software that installed the OS and the configurations on the first machine in the first place..so it can again install it on another machine

    • @sponge108
      @sponge108 Před 6 lety +1

      clearly you did not follow his explanation of Fault Tolerance, which is a replica of the original VM being stream-lined at the same time. If he didnt actually say this, just look up VMware Fault Tolerance. This is the tech that allows a VM on a specific ESX host go down, and a live version of said VM be live on another ESX host.

    FOR ANY NEW VIEWERS:
    since the audio is only on one side for window users:
    One way to fix it without any effort would be to set your audio output to mono from studio. In case of mono audio output, the sound being played only on one side of the headphones would be played in both the sides. To do this in windows 10, go to ‘ease of access’ (just search for it) then to audio section and the enable mono. That should do the job.
    THIS SHOULD FIX THE AUDIO PROBLEM!

    Interesting info... this has helped me a lot. I'm pursuing an advanced degree and he does a better job of explaining things than some of the textbooks I've been told to read.

    Now all the concepts regarding basics, virtualization and cloud computing are cleared with this simplistic 1 hour video. Infact, it explains much better than a book can. Thumps up for you. Thanks you very much.
