  • DIY Gone Wrong: Catastrophic Short in Tent Heater Install! - Amazon Diesel Heater Saga, Part 3
Welcome back to Wranglerstar's DIY journey with the SILVEL 12V 8KW Diesel Heater from Amazon. In this gripping third part of the series, I encountered a scenario I never expected.
In today's episode, I take you through the steps of installing the SILVEL diesel heater into my tent. Everything was progressing smoothly, with the heater set to bring warmth and comfort to my outdoor setup. However, the DIY process took a shocking turn. Using temporary alligator clips for power seemed like a simple solution, but a slight bump led to a disastrous short circuit. What happened next was a cascade of smoke and sparks - a true reminder of the unpredictability and risks in DIY projects.
This video isn't just about the installation; it's a real-life lesson in caution and preparedness when dealing with electrical setups. I'll share with you the details of what went wrong, how I handled the situation, and what this means for the future of using the SILVEL Diesel Heater. If you're into DIY, outdoor adventures, or just curious about how to handle unexpected challenges, this video is a must-watch.
Remember, while DIY projects can be rewarding, they also come with their own set of risks. Always prioritize safety, and never hesitate to consult professionals when in doubt.

    Wranglerstar's Cheap Diesel Heater -

  • @terrencezellers9105

The smoke came from a few drops of diesel burning after the air was no longer being pumped through. Basically the short caused the air pump to shut down immediately but there were a few drops of diesel that still dripped into the still very hot combustion chamber. Without the air pump it burned incompletely, the excess becoming "smoke".

Only Cody could have a 3 part saga with a diesel heater.... And make it interesting

If snow load is a concern, heating the tent more often is probably a good solution but an alternative is you can spray wax the exterior of the canvas once a season and it will really help to shed heavy loads.

Mrs W tomorrow morning: Hey Cody, have you seen my blue mug?

  • @whynotdean8966

I don't think we as the viewers say this enough: Thank you for staying honest and true to your audience Cody.

  • @YoursUntruly

You’re seriously living the dream, brother. Thanks for being there for the men that never had a father to teach them these things growing up.

  • @mtpowder8974

Important: your exhaust should be higher than an anticipated snow level. We run into that often with HVAC venting in our area. I'd be concerned with fumes being trapped and coming in under your platform during a heavy snow.

  • @PhoenixRising2040

Hey Cody, some mineral wool insulation around the exaust would help keep critters and fumes from coming in 🙂

Here is a little tricky I learned from a close friend, store your super glues in a fridge. It will last for years. Enjoyed the video!

I am not shure how many shops Momma kitty has faithfully guarded around 5 shops and homesteads. She waits on you early in the morning for your arrival. Rock on Momma kitty😅

Finding the center of a circle.

I lived in my vehicle three times in my life. College years, when I was building my house on my 300 acres, and when I worked in Portland, four hours from my home. It strengthened me.

Cody, get a center finding ruler to find centers easily. The zero is in the middle, you just match the measurements on each side and bingo, you have the center of the object!

I love how you recognize as men we don't need all the amenities. We built those for our Women and Children. I'm the same way. I rather be in nature then sitting in a house. It just feels like your free.

I'd get a set of large stones that I could put around the wood stove.. They'll absorb a bunch of the extra heat and slowly release it greatly extending the amount of time you can leave the tent unattended in a snowstorm. Also reduce your wood usage. Combine that with a wood stove that has a catalytic system and wood usage drops through the floor and stoking times are greatly reduced, giving much more time again.

With todays big LFP battery banks and solar panels its much easier to go off grid and have all the electricity you need. And then SpaceX Starlink allows you to connect almost anywhere on earth to high speed internet so you no longer have to worry about being in the vicinity of a cell phone tower. And these small wood stoves and diesel heaters will keep anyone warm in the winter. Merry Christmas Proho and family! 🎄

I’m curious why you just didn’t use a piece of black iron pipe?

  • @lalipop241

I don't watch your video often, but I can say that the more it goes, the crazier you are in your head
