    "Birth" was instantly one of my favorite movies when I saw it in 2004, with it's "Shining"-influenced opening sequence and the amazing close-up of Kidman in the theater audience as her inner turmoil erupts minimally on her face and maximally in the music performed by the off-screen orchestra. A magically cinematic film, and, I thought, massively influenced by Kubrick. Your video has made it clear that the Kubrick homages and references run throughout Glazer's work, which can only be a good thing! The length of time between each film, though.... Thanks for the informative vid!

    I certainly hope he decides to make more films. Under the Skin blew me away like only a handful of films ever have. To me, it was as thought provoking and intriguing as any Stanley Kubrick film, sharing Kubrick's proclivity for beauty and ambiguity. A brilliant film.

    Glazer is THE MAN. No living filmmaker who's new feature I anticipate more. And he's a monumental director of ads - GOAT for me in that regard. And he's made some of the best music videos ever too.

      Totally know what you mean. I bought his Directors Label DVD when it came out because of the 'Virtual Insanity" video. The inventiveness of that video had always stuck with me. I often find myself rewatching those Guinness commercials over and over. So brilliant.

    I believe he's the best director of our time. His originality is second to none. Even more so than Wes Anderson, or Tarantino, who both "rip-off" other directors styles blatantly. The only thing he's missing is the popularity and the productivity of the two aforementioned.

    When I saw the name, I was thinking Jon Glaser from Neon Joe Werewolf Hunter, Delocated, Jon Glaser Loves Gear, and more - which are cool to me, but this was great and turned out to be a nice surprise. I love Under the Skin and Jamiroquai (especially that video), so what a cool tie-in and awesome job, as usual. Thanks.

    I know the more high brow film goer will cite Under The Skin, but Sexy Beast is a fantastic movie too! So damn entertaining and full of cinematic chops. I lived in Spain and no other film captures the dead heat of the Spainish sunshine as well as Sexy Beast. Why Glazer hasn't become a go to Hollywood gun for hire baffles me!

    Advertising is where true art lies. Art is not personal expression and pretty colours. That's just therapy. Art is the manipulation of a what a person knows, thinks or believes through a sensory experience. This was the function of the earliest understood art and is why religion and politics dominated its early development.

    Under the Skin did nothing for me, but keeps getting brought up by all the people I normally align with. Maybe I need to give it a re-watch, but I was just bored the first time.

    • @vrabo3026
      @vrabo3026 Před 6 lety +3

      The whole story is told visually which is different from most movies relying on dialogue to explain what's going on. I personally like that but I can understand why other people wouldn't.

    • @n_n_n_n_n_n
      @n_n_n_n_n_n Před 6 lety

      It's not that, those are the movies I seek out and typically enjoy, (the last movie I rented was A Ghost Story). I haven't seen Under the Skin since it came out, so I may be remembering things incorrectly. That said, I remember being completely into it for the first abduction sequence, then losing most of my interest during the second. It seemed entirely redundant, but I had hope something else would grab me. Then I recall they did it a third time, and I checked out and don't recall anything else until the admittedly stunning visuals in the forest at the end. Like I said though, everyone who likes the movies I like, loves Under the Skin, so I should give it another watch.

    • @plasticvision
      @plasticvision Před 6 lety

      definitely give it another try imo. Took me 3 watches before I could confirm I loved it
