  • Ample is a new synth by renowned designer Tom Carpenter of Analogue Solutions. I would describe it as being quintessentially Analogue Solutions. It has that iconic, luxurious sound that has carried through every machine Tom has created, this time coming with a particularly beautiful LPF and an array of generous interface and performance controls.
    I spent a month with this on loan from AS and enjoyed my time with it. While possibly not my favourite AS synth (that for me is the Impulse Command), this is certainly a synth worth your attention if you're a fan of vintage tones bursting with vibrancy and soul.

    I love the format. Hearing you calmly talk about enjoying synths in itself just puts me in a good mood.
    And what's more these are beautiful synth sounds.

    I’ve owned a few and Fusebox X has been my favorite sound. Not always easy in production scenarios but a glorious sound.

    Their Impulse command is such a gem synth with such a beautiful filter, love it. Ample looks very interesting. Nice demo, thankx!

    Gosh that filter does sound great, and the delay section is a cherry on top.

      Yeah! I always had the delay on, it sounds do smooth.

    Great review. Much appreciated!!! Not a lot of content out there on the Ample synth. Well done.

      Great. I’ll be looking forward to it. I just bought one a few months ago and it finally came in. I haven’t even got to play with it yet. Can’t wait to.

    There’s so little out there about this synth, so I really appreciate your video - I’m SO close to getting myself one but I wish there was more online to help me decide! I’m torn between this and the Syntrx II, as far as I can see the Syntrx probably lends itself to more complex sounds? How complex can you get on the Ample? It seems more musical to me than the Syntrx but it’s hard to tell - I wish someone would make a video comparing them both!

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks glad you found the video useful! I would say you are correct the Ample is more naturally ‘musical’ where the Syntrx is more naturally ‘experimental’ - I used to have a Syntrx 1 and I used it mainly for sound design and sound processing. Both good options but depends what you would want to use one for.

    Is there an input or manner to reset the sequencer in Ample?

      Afraid I’m not sure I’ve since sent the synth back to analogue solutions now the review is done so I can’t check for you

    Do the pins only have an ob/off function? If so, why not little buttons one cannot loose?

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick  Před 6 měsíci +1

      There's 3 different type of pin that offers 3 different levels of attenuation. It's quite important for mixing signals together as you don't want to overload an input by sending 3 full-strength signals to it, it won't break it, but it won't sound as good. Also you may want to use the pins to send modulation around at lower modulation. This could all be done digitally like you see in the Erica Synths Matrix Mixer, but this is an all-analogue synth (minus the midi).

  • @asynchronicity

    Does this have glide/portamento? Many of AS's products don't for some strange reason.

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick  Před 6 měsíci

      Nah no glide, I don’t know if you can use one of the contours to fake it tho.

      @@SoundsMick I've been perplexed as to why this is often not implemented on AS synths. Need those snakey acid lines sometimes.🤷

      @@asynchronicityhaha yeah, it’s surely intentional tho, he’s a nice guy the designer, he would probably answer an email Q about it

  • @InFamousProductions

    I got one of the first ones, and it sounds like a billion dollars. But I wish that it had more modulation options. Like the envelopes have no way to modulate the ADSR individually.but the sound is really unbelievable. And the 2ND LFO is only a sine wave, and the touch plate is worthless to me. I would like to take it out and put something else there. If you’re reading this Mr Analog Solutions guy, make something that can be swapped, like more CV points. I feel this wad thrown together to quickly on the design concept. But… when you find the sweet spot it’s tops

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah I agree I would also like more modulation and mod routing options. But yeah it just sounds amazing and the interface is very intuitive I find.

    • @InFamousProductions
      @InFamousProductions Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@SoundsMick I do find ways to get more out of it sometimes. like the external CV 1 and 2 column . and the left top side of CV inputs. the ones I haven't really figured out, is the CV section to the very right side. The manual was really weak in explaining all of the CV in/outs. I may make a vid of my own efforts haha. I think it's possible to route external audio through it, but my attempts were not successful. If you figure it out, make a vid!

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@InFamousProductions yeah the synth does do well when when sitting in front of some eurorack. You can patch external signals directly into the pin matrix with the ext inputs. This can be CV or audio. It would have been cool to show this in the video, but I’ve had to send it back to AS so can’t make any more on it, unless I buy one which I might. :)

    • @InFamousProductions
      @InFamousProductions Před 5 měsíci

      @@SoundsMick I may have to try some audio into the CV. does the audio have to be put through something first to make the voltage in the correct amount?

  • @aeko
    @aeko Před 6 měsíci +1

    The aesthetics of this brand is such a massive turn off. The dumb name, the knobs are *almost* in straight lines, but then not, the weird space usage (why the massive blank space near the pin matrix?). And the horrible typography choices. Sounds decent, but visually, it’s clear the creator can’t be bothered to get a decent designer’s help.

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Fair enough, I think it looks pretty cool, I like the white, this follows the style of their Maximus and Colossus which has that laboratory look of the EMS Synthi 100. The Impulse Command looks very different to this, definitely has considerations for style. I'd say that the knob positions being offset makes sense for the shape of the contour and also to be able to fumble around the knobs without really looking at them and still hit the right thing.
