    nice one, cheers. I'm doing similar, but with a Macbook and Bitwig these days. So lovely to be able to keep the creative flow by doing the fiddly stuff in the digital domain

    Fantastic nice to see your workflow. I have nearly identical workflow, except I use oxi sequencer, and I sync it from the AUM iPad so I get the same start stop as iPad sequencers.
    I use covariant a lot to get the cv and gates out from the es-9. And if I want the same latency on the iPad sounds, I put it out of the es9 and to an input again, MIDI and the output has almost identical latency.
    Cheers Bobb.

      @SoundsMick Před 10 měsíci

      That's interesting about adding the latency, I was doing something similar to very tightly sync my hardware fx sends and returns, but it turned out to just add too much latency when I wanted to use a keyboard live over the top.

    • @bobbfett.musiclab
      @bobbfett.musiclab Před 10 měsíci

      @@SoundsMick I only do it so the iPad drums or synths/ clocks gets the same latency as my es-9 inputs, everything else goes through the inputs one time anyhow, where the most latency is. It’s nearly impossible to get rid of latency, the trick feels like is to get the same latency on everything. Just my humble theory, it never worked for me to try some sort of compensation stuff.

      I am yeah, but it may be overkill if I'm honest. Am using the M1 ipad pro.

    Thanks for this, it's really helping me get started with the es-9. Once you had this all set up, how do you decide which part of the system to expand? There are so many great iOS synths and stuff like Audulus or miRack that take on some of the eurorack role in software. Is it just something that happens organically - like do you see a great eurorack module that you want to try so you get it, or do you pass over eurorack modules if you've a good iOS AUv3 that does something similar? Does it come down to the interface and how you want to modulate the gear/AU (e.g. midi vs cv)?
    I waited over a year for the es-9 to become available and I wound up buying a couple of modules I _knew_ I'd sell once I could hook up my iPad but I just needed them while I waited😅

      Thanks glad the video was useful. For me it was a lot of experimenting, I’m still experimenting. Check out this app as it’s designed just to work with ES9, it’s a little like voltage block or some kind of stored memory, real cool and free! www.seqsual.com/canvas

    Super cool! I was looking for a nice multi-track recorder App for iPad anyway; there's a Motu Ultralite in my live case and watching this video, I now want to use the mixer and AU too : ) for live mastering... Is it stable enough to go on stage with the master output depending on the app working perfectly? are there any latency issues?

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick Před 5 měsíci +2

      I think it’s pretty stable within AUM, if you run non-auv3 apps that need to be a full screen app, like Borderlands or Patterning, when you switch apps that can sometimes glitch out.

    Thanks for sharing this - great set up. Where is the output of the iPad going to? Does everything come out of the ES-9?

    So wait. You don’t need any fx modulars when you have the ES 9? You can use plug ins?

  • @hanshansen4267

    How did you configure your ES-9 and in which mode are you operating it? Any problems with latency? Thanks for the video!

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick Před 10 měsíci

      I've not touched any settings on it as far as I can recall. Latency is great, there is round trip latency if you send something out of the output to say, a filter in your system and then back in again - but that's just like, physics I think there's no way to avoid it. I run everything on a very low buffer and normal use latency is very tight.

    Thanks for this, I have been on the fence about buying an es-9 to multitrack/record on my ipad but I think this has solidified it for me.
    How much of a PITA is the es-9 config and are you using any midi controllers to adjust settings within AUM?

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick Před 5 měsíci

      ES9 was pretty straightforward to configure, and yeah at one point I had a Faderfox to control but actually I’ve gotten to really like touching the screen especially with a matte screen protector which helps your fingers glide on it better.

    Very interesting , thank you for this video but what is the advantage of using this app and not Logic Pro on iPad ( like a sound source and sequencer )

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick Před 7 měsíci +1

      Logic Pro is designed for linear clip editing and layering where AUM is essentially just a super mixer / recorder with insert FX. Depends how you want to make music, I tend to record performances of an ensemble of instruments vs recording parts one at a time and copy / pasting audio or midi clips. For my purposes the interface of AUM is easier to use / read and has more focus.

    Hi, thank you for sharing. By the way I'm having trouble with ES-9 config, can you share your ES-9 config? Because my es-9 input goes directly to ES-9 main output. So it doesn't get effect from AUM(IPad.) Thanks again

    • @SoundsMick
      @SoundsMick Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah so the outputs are numbered I think 8 channels later than you’d think. For me, the es9 output 1 is output 9 in AUM (or something like that)

      I don’t think there’s a midi to link app available right now, i dug deep into that rabbit hole. I just slave the hardware to aum instead, but it’s not my first choice. They have that new bluetooth link module that’s like 2hp i’d love to check out
