  • This is a detailed review of the Cordoba GK Studio Flamenco guitar. This guitar excels in sound and playability, its hard to beat in its price range. A true flamenco guitar with Spanish design for about $600.
Comes with a Cordoba gig bag. Guitar is strung with Savarez strings and has a Fishman tuner/preamp (w/under saddle pickup and in-body blender mic). The GK Studio has a solid spruce top, sycamore back & sides, and rosewood fretboard, adjustable truss rod, and is very similar in feel, build, and sound to the no-longer-made 45FCE.
    Hope the review is helpful.

I bought this guitar on a whim. I've only played it an hour or so. Never owned a nylon string guitar, love the sound and tone of nylon strings. Like to think I'm finger stylist...... can't play a rest stroke nor a flamenco lick to save my life. I'm likely to use this axe to play finger style Beatles, folk an blues standards. (Oh the Humanity!) For a lack of description.. I wanted to buy a "Hybrid" nylon sting guitar..You know...one that us steel stringers don't have to reorganize their brains to play. This seems to fit the bill. Neat and tidy size, with a slightly narrower neck. The built in electronics seem suitable and convenient. Initially..I don't see any of the the blemishes or deficienices some respondents claim. Consider this guitar "is what it is".. a low to mid priced nylon string guitar with Flamenco accents and stylings. Time might tell..... however.... its simply not fair to compare this guitar to higher end classical and flamenco guitars..from those who might deserve and demand more........consider for the money.. its a reasonable entry into the nylon string world. I pay more in car insurance premiums in a month, than I did for this guitar, and it won't cancel me when I get caught driving over the limit.

Hey thanks for a great review.
My friend suggested this guitar, so I found your review and you have definitely confirmed for me that I want to buy it, which I will now do, this weekend.
    So thanks again

this guitar sounds and feels great, really to fall in love with it, but they messed up by screwing the pickup right in the thin wood with wood screws. A minor thing really that can be fixed easily, but the original pickup screws setup will lose up with vibrations and introduce noise.

Thanks for more input! Really considering buying this guitar, and appreciated getting to hear it through the pickup, to compare with unamplified sound.

hi Robert, thanks for that... really can't go wrong buying this guitar. I don't think there is a close rival by another company in this price-range. Good luck on your search!

Just read through the comments, and saw one from 2 years ago that I can't reply directly to, but it deserved a response. NEVER replace nylon strings with steel strings! OMG! It's designed for the tension of nylon strings. If you want a steel string guitar, get one, don't slap steel strings on a nylon. Some might be strong enough to tune up with steel, but some are fragile enough you'd probably destroy the guitar before you ever got enough tension on the steel strings to get them in tune. Don't risk having your house surrounded by picketers from SPCG (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Guitars!)

+kevinb2014 Hi, that is absolutely correct! Bridges on nylon string guitars are mounted with glue, whereas bridges on a steel string are usually screwed down. So a nylon string guitar & bridge can't handle the tension from steel strings. Not to mention the neck angle & nut would be all wrong and its just generally a bad idea. I've seen the problem first hand on guitars people have brought in where they switched strings without knowing better. We'll be sure to keep away the SPCG picketers, haha. Thanks for posting.

That's right, thanks for pointing that out. On the 45FCE (which was nearly the exact same guitar before the GK came out) it was sycamore.

  • @Saitentanz

Regarding the sound quality, this demo is a true desaster. There´s also no flamenco guitarist who would think about buying this guitar with focus on this playing style.

    • @GuitarScratchRemover
      @GuitarScratchRemover  Před 9 lety +3

Saitentanz, the guy in the video is a crossover player (many different styles) and is simply demonstrating the guitar with some Spanish-style music. If you are unaware, Cordoba guitars are played by everyone from blues and acoustic rock musicians, to full-on Spanish and flamenco enthusiasts. No one needs to be a purist in any style to own or demonstrate one of these guitars. Also, there are other flamenco players that are rock/metal crossover players (Steve Stevens) that are awesome players and also play with effects live or have a slightly different sound compared with pure Spanish Flamenco.

Saitentanz To be fair I agree with you. But its an over all good guitar, I tried it out today! For classical or true flamenco, no. To have a guitar to plug in and get the nylon feel/sound but have it amplified at an okay cost its good!

John Cesar thanks for the post. Also to be fair, this video was done fairly quickly with typical camcorder mic equipment, and its not perfect sound studio quality. To hear what this guitar sounds like in the studio, LISTEN TO THE FIRST 10 SECONDS of the video, that's the guitar professionally mic'd up and it sounds great. Keep in mind the goal of this video was to critique numerous aspects of the guitar, its build, feel, and sound in doing so we used the narrative of the player in the video. Hopefully that along with the studio intro and a few clips throughout does a decent job of describing the guitar. Thank you.

Berk, Not sure which song you are referring to, the opening music or in the demo... but the video is mostly a combination of original material by the review. There is also a revised version of the song "Estudio" being played. Thanks

That I know you can't put steel strings on a nylon classical flamenco guitar sattle is different plus the structure is different than a regular steel acousitc guitar

Hi John, you should probably visit Cordoba's website and see if they have a dealer in Australia, otherwise you should be able to find an online dealer in the USA that would ship there. I still have not seen any flamenco guitar in this pricerange, and I have seen many, that comes close the GK Studio in quality so it would be worth the effort in my opinion. Thanks.
