Terry shows us just how simple it is to prune an apple tree using the central leader pruning method. Pruning stimulates vigorous growth and opens up your tree to allow for good air circulation and sun penetration, which helps prevent disease and promotes healthy fruit. A neglected fruit tree may not produce much fruit, if any. For more detailed information, click here: www.starkbros.com/growing-gui...

As a young gardener (28) I was always afraid of pruning my fruit trees and bushes. I've built up confidence over the last few years and have fallen in love with pruning. Its not only an art form, but so relaxing to do.
I'm also a young gardener (22) and I agree it truly is an art form and very relaxing. It's also cool to watch a tree fill in throughout the growing season and how it reacts to your pruning. It's almost surreal how much proper pruning can impact the way a tree grows and takes shape. I have a 3-5 year old apple tree that I never pruned until last winter and this year it grew more than ever before. It basically doubled in size and has a beautiful shape to it. Hopefully this next season it starts producing apples!
Prunning is an art. My prune passion is vine as I was taught by my father, who was taught by my grandfather. I also prune fruit trees and olive trees, but vine is really my passion. Greetings from Portugal!
So many videos detailing pruning on new plantings. I like that you showed a more mature tree that needed pruning. That's what I need to do and your instructions were very good.
I just received my first Apple tree in the mail and I’m so grateful! Thank you for telling me about 45° cuts!
Extremely helpful ! Looking out our winter windows wondering how to care for the apple tree. Great advice and intro to us of the limb spreaders. Who knew? Thanks and congrats on your 44 years employ !!
This was very helpful, thank you. It's delightful watching you make this an art. I have an OLD apple tree that's overgrown and diseased. It's a beautiful tree and I'd hate to cut it down. TYSM.
Love those Okatsune pruners. Lightweight and cleanest cut ever.
Lot of thanks maam
I m trying to learning from 2 years

Thanks for the concise and clear explanations! Not too wordy, just enough dialogue for me to remember something.
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks a lot, very informative. I am about to prune my apple tree.
This video was very informational, thank you for sharing. We pruned apple trees for the first time this year. Looking forward to see how much it helped with growth in the trees. Best, David and Rachel from CFS!
I love this! I have just started to grow trees!
Super helpful, thank you. I have really neglected some cherry trees and they look just like your apple tree looked at the beginning. I'll head out to prune them back immediately, now that I know what I'm doing! 👍💡
Very helpful! Thanks - much appreciated…
Clearly & useful demonstration
Great video! This give me confidence to give my apple trees a good haircut!
Looks great Terry!
Thanks for this, very helpful.
Super information on 🍎 apple
Very nice, thank-you!
Very helpful! I have avoided pruning because I just wasn’t confident. My trees came from stark bros. Lost one because a deer pushed it over and broke it at the ground.
Love the building behind you :)
Thanks for the video!

Thank you. This is my first with Fruit trees in addition I am paraplegic so I am not very tall and feel the need to prune with that in mind. Thanks again. Any ideas for newcomers is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
thank you very much
Many thanks good explanation I feel more convenient to tackle my trees, not heard of limb spreaders before. WCL
Heading out to prune today and watched this as a refresh. The Stark Bros advice on pruning is really useful. I can’t emphasize enough the wonder of the limb spreaders. They really do the trick.
Thanks for watching!
Great job...no mistake...
HEY TERRY! ❤️you!
Very nice
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Lovely
Very nice 👌👌👌 information
Thanks:)
Miss pruning our trees back home. Very relaxing & almost as fun as fly fishing. Limb spreaders are an excellent improvement. Thanks for sharing !
Excellent video just what I was looking for thank you 🙏
Appreciate the excellent instruction!
My tree is 25 yrs old.. I have trimmed vertical growth for several years. I have balls of vertical growth. It was supposed to be a dwarf but would be super tall if left to grow straight up! I'm thinking of doing a drastic cut back to just the four main branches.
So helpful, thank you! A fantastic demonstration.
Thank u , informative. I have seedlings
Zahoor from Pakistan very nice
Nice
Great
This video is so amazing
Thanks for a detail video. My mom planted one last year. It is having leaves and possibly some flowers now; is it still too
late to prune it? When is the best or ideal time of the year to prune fruit trees? Thank you
Hi Terry! It’s ideal to prune a tree while it is dormant, but you can certainly still do it now. Pruning in its dormancy encourages the most growth, but early Spring pruning is a suitable time, too. I hope this helps - happy growing!
@@GrowingwithStarkBros awesome, Thank you for the response. Hope you have a nice evening
How often should an apple tree be pruned? I planted two trees two years ago and haven't touched them. One seems really healthy and has blossomed, and the other greens and gets leafy but doesn't bloom.
Hi Kevin! Great question. We suggest pruning yearly. It will help to stimulate new growth and keep the structure of the tree open for air flow and sun exposure. You can read more here! www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/how-to-grow/fruit-trees/apple-trees/pruning
Can we please see the progress of this tree soon?
Absolutely! A photo with how the tree looks 7 months after being pruned can be found on our blog! www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/article/how-to-prune-an-apple-tree-step-by-step-with-video
Prune in fall?
she is cool, lol, lov the advice, certain ppl just do better video and this is it
It looks like your tree has a support. Can you tell me about it?
Hi Janice! We've supported this tree with our favorite tree stake. It keeps the tree sturdy and straight, but still allows the tree movement to build up the trunks strength. You can watch more about it here: czcams.com/video/h9m9YbHRD2o/video.html
@@GrowingwithStarkBros Thanks I'm always looking for something that doesn't rub the tree.
Can I still prune when the trees is already flowering?
Unfortunately no, this needs to be done when the tree is still dormant.
