Their musicianship is unbelievably amazing. All musicians in this band are incredible to the bone. How amazing to follow Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore on stage. I’m not even talk about Paicey, who’s an excellent phenomenal drummer. Maestro Jon Lord and great bassist and producer Roger Glover. The best band ever was on this earth. Deep Purple MK-II line-up. Bow down!
I love Deep Purple - have every album in fact but a band that seems to be in the shadows (except for their fans) is The Kinks. They are just as fantastic as Deep Purple in every way. Discover or even rediscover them. They'll blow you away I reckon. Their early stuff is setting the template for good rock music. Dave Davies guitarring is grungy even in 1965.

This is the only musical document I know of where Ian Gillan is singing multiple high Cs (C6!) in the end which is a half tone above the comparable singing/guitar duel in Strange Kind of Woman - what an amazing range and shape. His singing tone is beautiful here. Between 1969 and 1971 Ian's voice was in the shape of his life IMHO - it's hard to think of other singers with that kind of vocal capabilities - maybe Freddie Mercury. The thing is: Where other singers with high vocal range often sounded thin Ian still had a full tone.
Also Steve Walsh of Kansas between 73 and 78 ish.... Incredible range and emotion. In performances from 74-76 he was able to effortlessly reach that insane "dog whistle" pitch that sounded like a musical saw!
You can't compare singers, You Can just in terms of vocal ranges(Divided in the shades of the voice, so it's different even in this term.)and control over the range. Ian screams in a sort of mixed voice.(And the second scream in the 73 live of SKOW touch a brief c6) Other documents are 1) What's the Buzz(C6)(Clearly audible) 2) Smoke on the water(C#6, not Clearly audible, live at Reading 79) 3) Roller(D6, not Clearly audible, live at Reading 79) Not Freddy(Not even close in terms of mixed voice) , not Halford(Who Can sing up to the mixed (Massive) B5 in dissident of aggressor, but the C6 of love bites(Live 84 i believe) is not Clearly audible, and It seems like a voice crack above B5), Not Plant(The C6 of You shook me(Live 69) was a Switch into a whistle-scream), Not Axl Rose(The real Mixed of the GnR period stops at F#5, above was the famous Axl Whistle-scream) The C6 is hard to mix guys!.
I am just going to point out how great I think glover is, not just a wicked bass player, but he's always in the groove and in the zone, the man just oozes cool 😎

What a HUGE step down in this band from Ian Gillan to David Coverdale! Everyone always bitched about Bolin replacing Blackmore,but at least they were both incredible guitarists. Just never believed Coverdale was in the same league as Gillan.

I'm 46 now and I remember being a child in the early-mid' 1970s... Kids today, I'm just so sorry for them, they are so fortunate to have THIS; the internet, so they can access these times... Because if I had Blink-182, Greed Day, Britney S, Rhianna, and all of the other shit/garbage available today... I would have been a wreck. I got Made In Japan and all Zeppelin, Purple, Queen, Derringer, Pat Travers, Frank Marino, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Clapton, etc ~ and I taught myself to play guitar.
All the musicians are at the top of the game. This is what makes deep purple so great. The same is valid for Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.

Blackmore and Lord were buddies till the end of Lord's life. They were the only ones that always got along.
Bought the LP in the 70's. Fireball. Their best I think. Saw them loads of times.
