  • We do an oil and filter change on this Nissan Xtrail 1.6 diesel T32 using 5.5 liters of 5w30 fully synthetic low ash engine oil and a new cartridge filter.
We had to remove the lower tray and needed ano8 square socket for the oil plug and a 27mm socket to remove the oil filter housing.

The oil in a diesel engine will come out black very soon after replacing.
You should heat the oil up because it helps loosed and thick sludge from the sump pan. Also, you absolutely should replace the copper washer. They're crush washers by design, once they've been used/crushed, they're worthless.

you should but if you dont the chances of it leaking isnt huge.... i replace them unless ive ran out , but ive also reused them on many cars with no problems what so ever

My wife had the North American version of the XTrail, the Rogue. It was super reliable and comfortable, good fuel economy, and carried all of our camping equipment. Unfortunately, it wasn't deer proof; my wife hit a very large deer and that was the end of the little Nissan. But she was perfectly safe! They do crash well. The only thing I dislike about the North American model is the poorly designed CVT; ours never gave us a hint of trouble but some people had theirs fall apart at 40K miles. We had twice the mileage and the car never had a single problem.

Martin ,Those undertray clips are rubbish when I service a Nissan any clips that go into the subframe I run an M10x1.5 tap straight in and use bolts and washers to secure it. Nice video as per usual 👍

Hi Martin, great video been watching your channel for years now. Just one thing what you should’ve done After changing oil and filter. Should’ve reset oil life/service light on the cars, engine management system using your scan tool, otherwise been a modern day diesel it can mess up the whole emissions control system and add blue if it’s got it beaing a modern diesel and all

A nice simple job. interesting note, we don't have that model in the U.S., in fact all of our oil filters are all one piece, it is in a metal case that screws right into the engine, till it's hand tight, to take off we have an actual strap wrench designed just for the oil filter.
Safety note: would it not be safer to block the back wheel, even though you are on a ramp stand?
Also most cars in the U.S, don't have an under-carriage shield, unless it is a sports truck that goes off roading.

Re the undertray, my ceed has a similar tray and is held on with 6 steel ( rusty ) screws and 8 ( mostly broken ) plastic clips like yours , there is no provision to acess the drain plug without removing the tray , making oil changes a nightmare , the filter however is situated on the verytop of the engine and is a doddle to change. My soloution was ( on the last oil change) to get 6 m6 stainless screws and a full set of new clips , remove the tray and measure where the drain is in relation to the tray , drill a 3 inch hole with a hole saw in the tray and then refit with all new fixings . The drain plug is now easily accessible with a suitable socket ! Also , your front cross member seems very rusty for a 8 year old car ?
