  • Learn how to use what if parameters in Power BI to perform what if scenario analysis. In this video I walk you through an example in which I apply what if parameters to a forecast for Power BI search trends. You will see how Power BI search trends compare to Tableau and Qlik based on data from google trends. If you like to play around with the example file see the download link below. Tableau or Power BI?

    • @udusegbe
      @udusegbe Před 3 lety +1

      My response to this age old question: depends on context or bias & what works best for the individual. I’ve been exposed to Microsoft productivity tools for the onset, started using Tableau when it first came out but had challenges working with both for data analysis. So when Power BI eventually came along (started with power query / pivot), it was a natural fit ever since. As such, I say Power BI as a preference & one who has used both for his particular context 😀

      I would choose Power BI for 2 main reasons
      1. Works well with Microsoft suite of apps
      2. Power BI has been bringing in really good features under the hood lately

      @@HowtoPowerBI Hi Bas, one question. The data I'm using is on a monthly basis, last 4 years. Up to mid-october. then Nov2021 and Dec 2021 have 0, instead of blanks. When using the line chart, the line drops to zero in the last two months. I used an if to avoid painting the line: IF([Sales]=0||ISBLANK([Sales]),Forecast, [Sales]) Does this seem ok? or would there be another better way to do it?

    For instance: We are tasked with developing a forecasting system for the Sales department, where adjustments to sales prices are required based on user-defined factors such as interest rates (6%) and inflation rates (3%). These factors have associated weightings, interest rates (10) and inflation rates (5), and users should be able to input values between -1 and 1 for each factor and additionally, we need to calculate the average of these values as the Net adjustment. Where after Net Adjustment is calculated.
    Once the adjustment is determined, we want to incorporate it into a what-if analysis for forecasting. How can we effectively implement this in the what-if parameters, considering the user-inputted values, weightings, and the calculation of the Net adjustment?
    Dax measures is we can do but we can't do hard code those values mean we need to check what if parameters using multiple categories.

      go to google trends: trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=power%20bi&geo=US and then you can click on the dropdown for the country. So I did it one by one (country by country), I don't think you can select multiple regions at once.
