So, my name is Phyllis Courant and I'm a Wiccan Priestess. I'm the founder of the Tradition of Aura and it is my great privilege to have been able to speak with you, and to read now from the Book of Shadows that I kept at the very beginning of my journey as a baby witch. Right up front is the Charge of the Goddess which was collected and shared with us by Doreen Valiente, who passed over a few years ago. So it's my honor to be able to read this to you.
Now listen to the words of the great mother, who was of old also called among men and women, Artemis, Astarte, Athena, Dione, Melusine, Aphrodite, Ceridwin, Diana, Arianrhod, Isis, Brid, and by many other names. At her alters the youth of old. These are her words. Whenever you have need of anything, once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full, then shall you assemble in some secret place, and adore the spirit of me, who is queen of all the witches. There shall you assemble, you who are fain to learn all sorcery, yet have not won it's deepest secrets. To you will I teach things that are as yet unknown, and you shall be free from slavery, and as a sign that you be really free you shall be naked in your rights. And you shall dance, and sing, and feast, and make music, and love. All in my praise. For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit, and mine also is joy upon the Earth. For my law is love unto all beings. Keep pure your highest ideal, strive ever towards it. Let nothing stop you or turn you aside. For mine is the secret door, which opens upon the door or immortality. Mine is the cup of the wine of life. The cauldron of Ceridwin, which is the Holy Grail. I am the gracious goddess who gives the gift of joy unto the hearts of men and women. Upon Earth I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal. And beyond death I give peace, and freedom, and reunion with those who have gone before. Nor do I demand anything in sacrifice. And behold I am the mother of all living and my love is poured out upon the Earth.
These are the words of the Star Goddess. She, in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven. Whose body encircles the universe. I am the beauty of the green earth, and the white moon among the stars, and the mystery of the waters, and the desire of the hearts of humanity. I call unto your soul, arise, and come unto me. For I am the soul of nature who gives life to the universe. From me all things proceed, and unto me all things must return. And before my face, beloved of gods and humans, let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite. Let my worship be within the heart that rejoices, for behold all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals, and therefore let there be beauty, and strength, power, and compassion. Honor and humility, mirth, and reverence within you.
And you who think to seek from me, know thy seeking and yearning shall avail you not unless you know the mystery. That if that which you seek you find not in yourself, you will never find it without. For I have been with you since the beginning, and I am that which is attained at the end of desire. - Jak na to + styl
Thank you for the lovely reading. The Charge of the Goddess is always inspiring. Blessed Be )O(
Thank you for doing your part to keep our traditions alive. Not all who hear the call of the Goddess are able to find elders in their locality to teach them. Although there are many many books published, it is often very difficult to figure out the pronunciation of names and such. This video is quite helpful in that aspect. I hope to find more in depth videos that break down the charge and explore it's meanings. Like most liturgy, it is prone to use of symbolism and flowery language and that can be confusing. I look forward to seeing more. Many thanks!
There's a saying, "A copy of the Spiral Dance, an athame, and a little chutzpah, and you can start a coven for your own.."
in my tradition we have to learn the charge to be able to speak out and open to the energy when drawing down the moon
it is beautiful but it is better learnt by heart thank you for sharing
Hi Tina, Glad to know you're studying with a tradition that requires you to memorize it. I read because to recite would initiate a Drawing Down which I did not want to do in that setting, for this video. Blessed Be!
Beautiful recitation. Blessed be!
wow first time I've heard it, so beautiful
I am deeply moved to hear this recital! It seems to encapsulate compete wisdom and love! 🙏
Beautiful 💓🕯 thanks for reciting it for us. I have the charge of the Goddess' written in my BOS. But listening to it from your soothing voice felt nice😊

Beautiful job, thank you. (Well met by the way! It's been toooooo long since we talked).
Well done. Many blessings! Syker : )
Very beautiful
Blessed be ❤
Very nice, although this could have been covered by a generic recitation video. Still, the Charge of the Goddess is lovely. I wouldn't mind seeing more Wiccans living by it.
This gave me chills. I've been practicing for a while, how does one attain ordination?
There are schools and organizations that do them. Just Google lol

This is not Doreen Valiente's version. I think it's Starhawk's version.
It would seem so. Happy Solstice anyway! (Why I’m here atm).

Wicca and Christianity have more in common then they think. May peace rain with wiccans and Christian alike together in harmony
For Love is the true religion of all
Wicca: Bide ye the Wiccan Law ye must, in perfect love and perfect trust. Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill: An ye harm none, do what ye will. (The Wiccan Rede)
Buddhism: Hatreds do not ever cease in this world by hating, but by love: this is an eternal truth. Overcome anger by love, overcome evil by good ... Overcome the miser by giving, overcome the liar by truth. (Dhammapada 1.5 & 17.3)
Hinduism: A man acts according to the desires to which he clings. After death he goes to the next world bearing in his mind the subtle impressions of his deeds; and, after reaping there the harvest of those deeds, he returns again to this world of action. Thus he who has desire continues subject to rebirth. He who lacks discrimination, whose mind is unsteady and whose heart is impure, never reaches the goal, but is born again and again. But he who has discrimination, whose mind is steady and whose heart is pure, reaches the goal and, having reached it, is born no more. (Upanishads)
Judaism: What is hurtful to yourself do not to your fellow man. That is the whole of the Torah and the remainder is but commentary. (Rabbi Hillel)
Islam: Shall I tell you what acts are better than fasting, charity, and prayers? Making peace between enemies are such acts; For enmity and malice tear up the heavenly rewards by the roots. (Koran)
Sufism: You when you bow in your mosque, kneel in your temple, pray in your church. For you and I are sons of one religion, and it is the spirit. (Kahlil Gibran)
Zoroastrianism: One good deed is worth a thousand prayers. (Zarathushtra)
Atheism: Love is the expression of one's values, the greatest reward you can earn for the moral qualities you have achieved in your character and person, the emotional price paid by one man for the joy he receives from the virtues of others. (Ayn Rand)
God is Love 1 John 4:8
And may the love of God or Goddess alike bless you all
I think it's funny that HOWCAST, of all things, makes how-to videos for Wiccans as well. (Because, well, if you do practice Wicca...wouldn't you already know about the Charge of the Goddess, or have a better resource for that?). I'm not against Howcast doing videos like this, it's just a bit...odd.
Im sure many do have a charge, or some form of it. I just recently started practicing after many months of debate, but I don't have many resources to get a lot of the information thats being discussed on these videos.
I'm a baby witch. I've been studying for a few years, and I still don't know this by heart. It helps to hear it spoken aloud for some of us who learn audibly rather than by reading. Thousands of years ago, oral tradition was all we had, ages before the written word, we listened. I rather like listening. I'm also solitary.
This is the only recitation of the Charge I found on CZcams. All information sharing helps someone.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Show Magick not just talk about it.
İt is a huge shame for a witch to practise infront of others(unless in a coven)Magick is a "see for yorself" thing.
Hmmm...I thought "desire" aska 'Lust' was a deadly sin.....
Wiccans don’t believe in the abrahamic idea of sin but we do have the karmic law of three and the rede which says “an it harm none, do what thou wilt”
What is a marriage without a desire for one's partner? "Desire" and "lust" drive humans to pro create. Without lust, we cease to exist.
WTF is this?
Sucks
