- Road Test: 2022 Moto Morini X-CAPE 649 4K
I was fortunate to try the 2022 Moto Morini X-CAPE 649 a few weeks ago, but it was only for half an hour (as I was running late!) and Two Wheel Nation suggested I come back another time for a proper ride and could take it on some trails.
The first time it was booked I had Covid, but finally I got out.
This video is the first of two from the day. I was out for several hours and was able to try the bike on a wide variety of roads and conditions, including a trail and part of the TET.
This is the 'Road' video. (I've done the trail video separately as this is already too long, and trail riding videos often have a different audience)
I hope it's interesting and useful. I think that for the price, the bike is really good. Not the best or exceptional at anything, but it's very capable for city riding, road touring, and even the occasional trail and all at a very reasonable price!
BIg thanks to Paul and Two Wheel Nation for letting me take out their demonstrator for the day! www.twowheelnation.co.uk/moto...

Awesome bud cheers 👍🏻
You’re welcome. There are worse ways to spend a day!
The bike appears to be a nice all-around rider.
It was so nice seeing your Peak District from the saddle.
I’m saving up for the R1250GSA, the Tiger 1200, or something similar.
I have in mind some moderate touring with Mrs. Hare on pillion.
Thanks for a nice ride-along and tour.
Hi Allen, for the price, I think it’s brilliant. It’s not better than a GS or a Tiger, but at 40% of the cost, they need to be 2.5x better just to be equal. I think it’s underpowered for 2 up touring and both of the other suggestions would be a more comfortable situation for Mrs. Hare. Is it nearly cool enough to ride again where you are? Or still rather hot?
@@PeakMotorcycles Yes, we got an early break in the summer heat here in Dallas. It’s been quite comfortable here for the past few weeks.
I’m about to switch from summer riding suit to winter riding suit.
Happy Trails!
@@0HARE I remember the Texas winters 🤣. Perfect riding weather. A bit like a nice summers day here!
Nice one Andre 🙂
Thanks. The other one was a bit rushed 😁. My guess is that the market for this bike is as an only bike to do everything on a budget. And to be able to properly ride it in lots of different places takes a bit of time. More than half an hour at least. A day probably isn’t enough, but it’s better.
Great stuff am considering it!
I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. I think there’s some dedicated groups for the X-Cape on FB if you want to get some owner opinions.
@@PeakMotorcycles Ahh good call👍
You are a good tester. I bought one to add to my flock of road bikes. I agree with the tester that for the money it is a good bike. If you want more, you have to pay a lot more!
Thanks, and yes, 100%. For the money, I don’t think there’s much (anything?) that comes close.
Good review. I took one out for MotoGusto magazine a couple of weeks ago. I only got an hour out on it (and didn’t get the chance to go off-road) but you are right… cracking little bike that offers a lot of value. I thought it was really well put together and wouldn’t mind a bit more time on it…
Glad it’s not just me then! Not sure from where, but I think I know John from MotoGusto (on LinkedIn at least, if not in the real world!). Looking forward to the rumoured 1200 twin X-Cape and what else Moto Morini do with the platform.
@@PeakMotorcycles it’s a small world!
Ooooooo I was waiting to see the pub. Great budget bike. Like a Minni Africa twin. Luv it. What Honda should have added to its line up. Even looks like the AT I believe
Fridays video is the trail ride from that same day. I took it over the houndkirk road. Suspension is surprisingly good. Gears are a bit high for a trail bike (at my skill level at least), and I didn’t notice the weight, until the downhill to Fox House. Even still, it’s a pretty awesome package for the price. I expect Honda will have their new bike out shortly, perhaps launched at EICMA, but I do think they’ve missed a trick in taking a year longer to get it to market.
I have been looking at quite a few XCape reviews on the internet and your review has been one of the most comprehensive. Thanks for that. This bike has been launched in India and looks like a great proposition for the price. My only worry is engine refinement, long term reliability and cost of ownership. Have you come across owners who have reported niggles or things that might spoil the experience??
Hi Rohit, the engine is a tried and tested unit that was used for years in the ER6, so I doubt there’s any worries there. As for long term reliability and cost of ownership, I think it’s too early to tell. The only thing I’d noticed from my rides is the cables rubbing the inside below the dash. I’m sure forum posts will surface if folks are having problems.
Not a fan of ADVs, but this one is a treat!
Praise indeed! 😉 I think it looks great, almost a bit of a Rally/Dakar bike about it.
Waiting for upcoming Suzuki vstrom 700
Is there a date for that?
@@PeakMotorcycles sir you'll be first one to know🙏🇮🇳
completely made in china by scooter company Zhongneng! Is this good or bad...?
Time will tell. It’s assembled in China, but the components are decent; the brakes are Brembo and the tyres Pirelli and the engine is the Kawasaki twin from the ER6 (I think). It also has Marzocchi forks and a Bosch ABS system. It looks well put together too, but I guess it’ll take a year or two to see how well it all stands up to regular riding.
@@PeakMotorcycles tnx. I read that engine is "similar" to CFmoto category and "similar" to Kawasaki. So in this moment is impossible to track what engine is in it.
@@MujoNovak it's the cf moto engine that they have been using since 2012 which is under licence from kawasaki . Along with bosch fuel injection so it's a reliable bullet proof engine..
@@JIMWSMITH Can u provide official link to that statement?
@@PeakMotorcycles but "I think" does not count.
