Thing is you cant criticize corporations corrupting countries without criticizing capitalism, capitalism is what makes it possible. Money is power in capitalism, and theres no limit to how much money you can get, like how a king has unlimited power in a monarchy. nowadays we limit governments and leaders, but we let rich people freely amass a disgusting amount of power, making them the most powerful factors in society, more powerful than any democracy or republic. corporations and ultra rich people are the modern nobles, except they dont have a king to answer to.
Who does a king answer to? A Dictator? In capitalism you make money by trading goods and services. The problem is we have government backed capitalism. We should be limiting monopolies but we don’t. Because our government doesn’t do its job. - B -
@@CedricandBrian because the government is also a slave to money, the resource that corporations are the king of. Simply put money gives random, unaccountable entities too much power in capitalist societies, money can write laws, buy politicians, leaders, media, and government entities. This ensures that monopolies and corruption will always exist, and rich people will always be the ones with most power.
Out of the top of my head, the only way to prevent this in a capitalistic state would be with what would by liberals be considered an authoritarian government like in China, where they actively nationalize and heavily interfere with corporations that grow too big and too ambitious.
If we don't want to give our own governments unlimited power(through monarchy/dictatorship), why do we give it to an arbitrary, behind the scenes group of rich random people we cannot account for?

I think a much better economic system would be one where we transition away from Capitalism peacefully.
Create a law where traditional corporations over a certain size have to pay a 15% Capital gains Tax and a yearly union vote is mandatory.
Alongside that. Eliminate Capital gains on Individual owned and operated businesses (Joe the plummer who does all the work himself) and have no Capital gains tax rate on Worker Cooperatives.
This would create a much more stable economy.

I respect the fact that you both reacted to this song. I don’t know if you have read Smith or Marx. I hope you understand that they agree on about 75 percent of what they think will best solution to a create a great and prosperous society. The disagreement comes to property (ownership) and who’s more important to society. Marx argument is the worker is the most important and Smith argues it’s the banks and corporations. I will say that Smith understood that banks and corporations without regulation would create a totalitarian state run by monopoly’s. You asked an important question what the solution. It’s a mixed economy with less war and subsidies to corporations. You said a universal healthcare system or a robust social safety net would bankrupt the country. That’s actually an uninformed lazy take. Imperialism is what’s bankrupting this country. The military industrial complex is sucking the taxpayer dry. If we cut our “defense” and corporate subsidies budget by 50% we could have a great universal healthcare system, university education or trade training and even a UBI. The problem is where we spend our money. If we want to change the country and world we need to get money out of politics and release the patents that have been created for free energy, cures for desease and sustainable farming techniques. The system is broken and it won’t be fixed until we actually diagnose the problem correctly.

Personally, I never thought capitalism was perfect, but I have used it to provide for myself, and my family and my kids have also used this vehicle to stand on their own two feet, and provide for themselves without depending on the government, or someone else, to give them a hand out.
I’ve been blessed to make the acquaintance of many “Compassionate Capitalists” who have made it possible for missionaries; schools; hospitals; universities; etc., etc to live out, their respective mission statements by helping to generously fund them. - C -

I really liked this video, but will disagree with one thing:
8:20 There is nothing wrong with socialized healthcare. It works perfectly well here in Denmark and our neighboring countries like Sweden, Germany, Norway etc. also have a well-functioning healthcare system. The United States have the most expensive healthcare system in the world, at 18.8% of GDP, DESPITE it being privatized. This is because healthcare companies form cartels and hike prices and corrupt politicians are bribed through "lobbying" to do nothing about such cartels.
Don't get me wrong, I am very much a capitalist and got a master degree in International Political Economy, so I understand the power of a free market, but please don't eat up the right-wing lie that the state providing services for tax money is always a bad thing. The problem is markets are not always free, but develop into cartels or monopolies. As with my example, the Danish state provides MORE healthcare for LESS money than he US while it being "socialized". People growing up in the US during the cold war have such a misplaced understanding of socialism or social-democracy because they have been spoon-fed from childhood to think socialism=communism.
The biggest problem with our healthcare is big pharmaceutical companies. I am a doctor and I have a daughter with MS. I see who gets all the money. Our system would work fine and be affordable but for two main reasons. Drug costs and the socialized part of our system. If your system is similar to Canada’s, then it works because our system is funding the drug companies. Your government gets lower costs because of this. You are also talking about countries the size of some of our states. While I agree with you on the “medical cartels”,( which is really big pharma ), I disagree with your conclusion that state run healthcare is better. Nothing in this country run by the government is better here. It is inefficient and overpriced. Canada and England are already having problems with there’s, and they are much smaller countries than the US in population. Our system is broken, but it is because the government will not break up the monopolies. This is true for healthcare and corporations.
Not to mention, we are one of the most unhealthy societies precisely because of our government actions. - B -
