11:42 track layout is actually 3, B, A, 2. There’s no track 1 since tracks 2 and 3 are through tracks used by Amtrak all the way to at least past Philly. also 17:09 those things are Spotted Lanternfiles. they are invasive to the area and should be killed as soon as possible

Since those two interlockings (LACK and ERIE) were built only when the Secaucus (not-a-)Junction station was built, I guess it made sense to give a tip of the hat to the Hoboken Division lines downstairs. The next one towards Penn Station, where it goes from three tracks back to the two you find along most of the route from Kearny to New York, is called ALLIED, referring to the original plan for the station to be the center of a larger real estate development called Allied Junction, which is only now really starting to take shape.

What a shame! Hardly any coverage of the Old Erie Main Line that some of us remember. Many rush hour trains went that way when I was a kid in Paterson. That old main line was the original Paterson and Hudson River Railroad. When the track was torn up through Passaic, in 1963, that ended the vibrant history of the original Erie main line commuter service. I grew up at the River Street station, old main line. Just south(east) of Hawthorne station.

@@3985uprr I don't doubt that one bit. But I referred to a time, when I was very young. I rode commuter trains with steam locomotives on the head end. giving my age away! And, when I was young, Glen Rock, Radburn, Fairlawn, Garfield, etc, were much more rural. The Bergan line is where the monmouth Erie Berkshire engines( until1953) ran with 125 car trains. that kept them out of the way of the crowded 'main line' commuter traffic..Thank you for your video. It brought back many memories for an old man born in that area.

Great stuff, Mr. RR(HG). Where were those Arrow MU's coming from at 7:40? My first line was the old Montclair Branch. I was 12 years old and my friend and I after school would catch the 3:30pm train to Hoboken whenever we could. 65¢ round trip in 1974. I've watched many of your videos but I don't ever remember you giving a shout out to Montclair, NJ, my hometown with a rich railroad history. Granted, the Montclair Branch, now Montclair-Boonton line is kinda boring and not very photogenic, I know as I've been riding it for 50 years, but with your encyclopedic knowledge of how things were, I'm sure I would probably learn something new about it.
I paused this video right after you didn't give the origin of those MU's, I'm going to hit play now and hope I hear you say Montclair at some point.
I genuinely enjoy the way you spend your free time. I want to be like you when I grow up.
Wow! That didn't take long. I guess it was inevitable that the "M" word would get uttered (11:30) in the episode.
Now, this is somewhat of a surprise. (26:20) My wife and love to dine at Blarney Station. She's from Scotland via England and I always try to find her places here that remind her of home. I always get the Fish & Chips and she likes their authentic Shepherds Pie. We always dine outside in the sidewalk area which is great for hearing those horns. We were last there on the Sunday evening prior to Labor Day at around 6:15pm. In the hour-plus that we were there, five(5) trains came through. That Fish & Chips was delicious that night!

    • @3985uprr

@@3985uprr - Yeah, I realized that later as you have discussed before when you were riding on another trip and passed the Kearny Connection.
Have you ever considered a Montclair-Boonton ride? I know I don't have to tell you that it's pieces of three former Branches: Montclair, Greenwood Lake & Boonton.
There are trains hourly out of Penn to Mtc. St. Univ. Upper Montclair has a nice little downtown adjacent to its station. Plenty of diverse cuisine can be found here. There's a high bridge over Peckman River in Cedar Grove which is a nice viewing spot for passing trains(Car required).
