Eddie Van Halen & Sammy "Love Walks In" (Bridge School Benefit 1993)

- You rarely hear people talking about Eddie Van Halen's brilliant piano playing. This is one of my favorite ballads we wrote for 5150. In 1993, Neil Young invited me back to do another Bridge benefit and I brought Eddie. It was so special and unusual. We had never done anything like this. Please enjoy this treasure.
#EddieVanHalen #LoveWalksIn #BridgeSchool #5150 #VanHalen #NeilYoung #VanHagar - Hudba
Sammy’s range is unreal. This live version is everything with Eddie doing his thing on piano. Pure talent between the both of them.
VH 4 life
Van Halen forever and ever
Agreed
Sammy was a good vocalist but very bland --- David Lee brought all the swagger, showmanship, and "coolness" to Van Halen
Oh I almost missed your comment. I love it! YES there's something so sweet and Rockin' and just perfect about Eddie on the piano with Sammy just ohh! You know! 💖🎶
Those two were so classy and professional together. No "sunglasses ".. just two pure musicians. A shame they didn't stay together
Sammy's voice sounds exactly like the original. Just amazing
Eddie VanHalen…. What a talent!!! Love his mischievous smile.
Eddies music and Sammy's voice what a great combination.
You’re Sammy fan?
Real musicians right here. Legit badasses. No tracks, just playing and singing. Man Sammy has the range here
In my opinion Sammy is the best rock singer of all time
@@MikeHart72 definitely in the top tier... Amongst the very best
@@MikeHart72 one of the nicest to
Michael Gibson .... I can't think of a better rock singer. Rock singer, not metal, or any other genre just rock or front man.
Phil Norman ... I wish I could have the pleasure of finding out. I've been a Hagar fan since before he joined Van Halen. I can't say Montrose, I am familiar with the band but I'm not old enough to be a fan while he was in it.
The two of them together is as close to perfection as anyone could ever get......
Rip Eddie ❤️
Keep rock'n Sammy!
You sure r right about that! They created musical magic together. Gosh I miss them together 💔
Eddie Van Halen was by far one of the most talented musicians I've ever had the pleasure of hearing live in concert.
Eddie's death affected me like no other celebrity death. I don't know.......perhaps in a silly way, it felt like I lost an older brother. When i was 13, i had NOTHING. No friends and no social skills to know how to make friends. I felt completely alone in the world. And the worst - Dealing with constant bullying, every single day. The kind of bullying that would make me vomit in the morning as I dreaded going to school. And try to find excuses not to go to school. Life was bleak. I felt so alone. Inwardly and silently, i was dying inside. There was nothing to live for. I walked around with my head down trying not to see the bleak world around me - a world and reality that offered no respite. But an older cousin was trying to teach me guitar. I knew a few chords but it was insanely difficult to play guitar. It was insurmountable. It hurt my fingers to play. The strings were too close together. I was already at the point of giving up and being a failure at once again, one more thing. But then this cousin loaned me a cassette of Van Halen 1. I pushed play on my Walkman. I was shocked. It melted my face off. Just sitting there stupefied. Tears running down my face. No other moment in my life was THAT transformative. I came away from that first listening session with something i had NEVER felt before - purpose and resolve. I vowed to myself in that moment to play guitar like Edward Van Halen. I was a different person coming out of that room. From that day forward, I spent 5 - 6 hours every day playing guitar. Summertime was all day. I'd go until my fingers were shredded. Confidence and meaning in life came to me at just the right time. I walked now with my head up. The mean things people would do and say no longer bothered me.....or at least I did not internalize it........because I had music. I truly believe i would've caused myself harm, if that purpose in life had not come when it did. Life finally had meaning. I owe Edward Van Halen a lot. Perhaps even my life. It was a HIGHLY improbable dream of mine to meet the man and just say thank you. Thank you for giving me something to live for at a critical precipice. Light up the sky Little Dreamer.....and rest in sweet eternal peace.
Similar story for me
So did you get real good at guitar??
@@daveyboy8907 yes i did, but i don't want to humble/brag. The reality: to do anything well you have to put in the time. A LOT of time. The problem with guitar is it is a difficult instrument to master. Those early days were hard. Trying to get coordination down on top of musical study. I don't relish those early days. But you get break throughs and you move to a higher plane, step by step. By freshman year in highschool i could play Eruption decently all the way through, but was terrified of talking to girls. But i eventually mastered the more difficult aspects of life with the added boost of confidence of knowing i could accomplish anything if i could play van halen....which included talking to girls. By the time i was 16 i sort of left van halen behind but kept it in my heart. I moved into a more difficult challenge - Playing and singing at the same time. Left and right brain sort of stuff. This year marks 30 years of playing. I've sort of planed out on skill 5 years ago. Just don't have the time commitment to push through it. Work and family gets in the way. My kids have shown an interest but they tried playing and it's too hard for them. It doesn't come easy so they give up. Disappoints me but what can you do? Guitar lessons at gunpoint?
I owe my life to Eddie too. My musical life. He put me on my musicals path that I’ve never left. Staring in 1982 when I heard Diver Down. I was 9. My dad had a guitar he didn’t really play so I was intrigued, then came Eddie. Played my first original show in January of 1986. Eddie drove me there (figuratively). He did. I led them as soon as I heard Sammy joined and I heard “55”. That was it for me. I needed to hear no more. The single didn’t do it for me. Eddie put me on that path that now at 47 I am still on. I became a professional audio engineer and worked with some of the top artist and earned many gold and platinum records, from getting Eddie push. He showed me. That impish grin in the “Jump” was the killer. The man had fun. No sour faces like other groups. Long Live King Edward
Both of your stories are great. Thanks for sharing.
I still can’t believe Ed is gone. It’s like losing a family member. Fly high and I hope you knew how admired and loved you were.
It definitely does feel that way.
Why can't you believe it? Everybody who I know who smoked and drank and did drugs is dead, too.
It sucks !! I hear ya
All songs by Sammy Hagar Van Halen that have the word ‘love’ in them are amazing. Love Walks In, When it’s Love, Why Can’t this be love…all amazing.
Eddie was the most gifted musician on our planet. R.I.P. Eddie forever the GOAT my brother 🙏🎸
Oh Eddie... Never seen this before. How wonderful. First time hearing Eddie's solo voice. Miss him so much.
You're right Sammy's range is incredible he is after all the Red Rocker him and I are met about three times in our lifetimes but I have yet to lock him down for a couple of drinks his biggest fan Rich Pasco Southern Oregon

@Sammy Hagar You're the best Sammy.
Humble and a great artist too.
Missing EVH hurts for me but I cannot begin to imagine your loss or that of WVH,Valerie or his family.

No production gimmicks. No auto tune. A great vocalist singing with a great musician who happens to have god given ability.
Raw, and amazing. One of my favorites.
Sammy doesn't get enough credit for his vocals. What a voice.
@@maxtpayne3218 He needs to shut his voice and not make Alex and Wolf mad with comments like I said things about Eddie in my book cuz I was mad about him ruthlessly kicking me out of Van Halen which isn't even true he admitted he quit. Don't mess with our chance to hear any of the great music in the vault!
No shit no auto tune...
Yeah this is the real deal real deal musicians here not the shit we hear today.
Ed’s hitting those keys like he’s playing drums. Phenomenal. And Sammy’s killin ‘ it on the mic.

Eddie plays the piano like his brother plays drums. Awesome!!!
@Sammy Hagar if youre the real Sammy, how many tequilas am i drinking "Right Now"?
youre gonna answer because you know you gotta.
did you ever catch Alex playing keyboards?
FYI!!! Eddie started on drums and switched with Alex
Agree! 100%
Nice 👍🙏
A good piano is like a good drum kit. The harder you hit it, the better it sounds.
Van-Hagar was a great musical era for me , lots of great memories..
That’s great to hear as I left VH when Sammy joined but to know Eddie still touched so many people really warms my heart. Cheers

I agree! I saw him on Howard Stern a month ago and he killed it! Still hard to believe hes 76
@richlininger4349 I saw that too and it was great, would be so cool to see him on this tour 😎👌
Two legends. Sammy's voice is amazing!
Hands down pure talent here. Musicians, Singers, and Song writers. RIP EVH🥺
I love this song and Sammy's voice! No auto tune. Just a piano and their voices! AMAZING!!
What a fantastic stripped down version. Great backing vocals from Ed.
I hope that is sarcasm about Eddie's vocals
It’s so hard for me to grasp that that’s eddie
@@joekingsley7642 lol. Sounds like anyone's uncle
@@joekingsley7642Thank you. I loved Ed too, but SERIOUSLY…..
@@mrsmacca126 Everything else in this version is amazing.
The piano/keyboards was one of Ed's great loves and what he was originally trained on before he ever picked up a guitar. All the great keyboard and synth melodies of the band were Ed's doing and they are as recognizable as anything he did on the 6-string. He had a knack for great jungles, chord progressions, and fills on the keyboard. When you hear just 1-2 notes you instantly know is a Van Halen song.
We can mourn Eddies loss, or we can celebrate his music, or we can do both. I, too, was a pimple faced, skinny teen punk in ‘78 when Van Halen I was released and never in my wildest dreams did I think that one band, one guitarist, would have the impact on me the way Van Halen did. I built my bedroom into a shrine in respect and love for Van Halen.
My son texted me at work on the day it was publicly released that Eddie had passed. What a monstrous gut punch that was and still is; his passing was, as others have said here, like losing your best friend or favorite sibling.
Thanks EVH for everything. The music world will never have another like you.
Rest in Peace and Love EVH! (2 true musicians displaying pure raw talents wrapped in skills)✌ 😎✌
Thanks Eddie for all your songs I've grew up with. Rest in peace 🙏🏼

Ed was pounding the shit outta that thing!!!
@Sammy Hagar damn this dirty
He is very heavy handed...... Caveman stuff
@Sammy Hagar Hard not to give this performance a lot of love. Dude, your singing is so strong and Ed’s beating the piano into submission, but with beautiful sound coming out of it. My dad was a professional and ended his career on keyboards - he would have loved this.
@@Swanlord05 yes but Essie always is tasty musical and melodic.
I love what Eddie does with his left hand during the verses. Brilliant. In the pocket and crunchy.
what, adjusting the microphone?
Crunchy piano? Really? LOL
Wow, never realized what a gifted pianist Eddie was, or what a beautiful melody this song has! Missing my grade 8 heartthrob Eddie❤️💐
The piano was the first instrument the Van Halen brothers learned. Their father was a musician, so that ability is in their genes.
@@melomaniacify l was classically trained on the piano as well but could never write music like that. The VH brothers were classically trained at the insistence of their mother, and later Eddie started on drums with Alex on guitar, then they switched, but l had no idea how good Eddie became at playing and writing on the piano.
@@jadeedmundson5715 I'm agree with you.
@@jadeedmundson5715Eddie was ethereal and beautiful
Eddie was legit on the keys. If you look long and hard on the internet you might see him playing some insane classical stuff at a party while everyone is ignoring him (don't ask my why or how). It was like watching those prodigies in the state musical contests. It was nuts
'Silence speaks to me as loud as war'

You can really hear Ed's talent as a musician, its not easy to carry that tune on piano and make it sound interesting.
His rhythm is just incredible.
There's people that play different instruments and people that play an instrument great and great musicians and Ed was all three.
Loved the music those Two made. Eddie was unreal musical talent.
Beautiful
Rest in Peace Mr. Eddie
Thank for everything
You did in music.
Eddie Van Halen on piano and key backup vocals. Haven't see lots of this. Fantastic skills in one musician.
A great ballad-always liked the lyrics and Eddie Van Halen on the piano-what a treat.
Eddie was classically trained & came from a classically trained father ❤
Eddy sure could play the piano.
Classically trained, but he couldn’t read music. He won a number of awards for his piano playing when he was a kid. He was destined to make his mark in the music world, and he most certainly did. 🙂
@@ladybuggs11 I remember Eddie saying he couldn't read sheet music and just "played by ear", repeating what his teacher would do, but given that he came from a musical family and he took college level music courses, I've always found it a little hard to swallow.
@@TheJohnnyCotts FWIW, all of the piano songs in the VH library are in Cmaj/Amin because he admitted he had to transpose everything he learned to C because he only uses the white keys. Lol
I love Van Halen but I don't tend to read up on every detail of artists so all I've ever heard about Eddie Van Halen is how great a guitarist he was, which is true, and not that he could also play piano 🎹, This is a beautiful song and personally I think that most accustic guitar versions of songs that are usually electric guitar led lose a bit in translation but this version of "Love Walks In" is as good even though it's a piano version with NO guitars.
@@autodidacticprofessor869 Now that’s pretty cool.

And of course back up with Michael.
@@johnkramer7161 Well, not entirely true. Eddie took piano lessons, and be took a class on theory in Jr. College. But he could not sight read music . He quit piano after a few years, but to say he was "Classically Trained" pianist is wrong. If he were classically trained, his lessons would have gone on for many years and he would be able to sight read music. His father was a Classically trained clarinetist though. But he is obviously a good player. But you are incorrect here. His instructor may have been a classically trained instructor though.
