Its funny how the US gets hate from the English and other Europeans for their football/soccer. To be honest I'm very impressed at the fact that there're great fans like these in the MLS considering how much soccer trails behind other major sports in the states. I'm happy to see these improvement so just keep doing what you're doing and gradually the MLS looks destined to achieve greatness as things only seems to get better and better. The USA national team is also known for being entertaining and showing world class at times unlike England who look destined to be forever mediocre. The women are also killin it. You also have many youngsters who are aware of the game and will likely contribute to the future success of the sport. I'm happy for you and I'll start watching the MLS next season and maybe I'll grow to love it as well. They hate cause they're just jealous of how far you've come and the growth is only going to get bigger. Well done to the supporters and I hope to see greater things in the future.

Liga MX is lightyears more competitive and serves as a very viable domestic league to groom young intl talent. If we can somehow find a way to get the numbers right, get the tv money and allow teams in MLS, not only to have a fatter salary cap, but to compete vs great young talents, we can not only attract better players to the league but also improve our USMNT development of local players. I believe the salary cap should be elevated but also implemented into liga mx sides to not only avoid financial mistakes but also to keep the playing field level. I was just watching a piece by Keith Olberman on CZcams ("7 recommendations to improve soccer in America"). I find it interesting that Mr. Mengem has taken the time to actually investigate and report the state of soccer in America (Colorado, Seattle, etc), while American sportscasters and reporters have not. I am happy that Mr. Mengem has visited our fair cities, especially my hometown, Seattle, and can see that soccer has arrived and is flourishing quite well. Maybe Keith Olberman and his fellow dinosaurs should get together with Mr. Mengem and see how real reporting is done. Mr. Mengem series makes for great reporting and viewing.
As a side note: Since the establishment of the original Seattle Sounders in 1974, it has pretty much remained in the city conscious during the rough and turbulent times of the 80's and 90's. Support for the original Sounders ranged from tepid to fair, but faith in the game remained strong with the NASL Sounders, Seattle SeaDogs (CISL indoor), Tacoma Stars (MISL indoor, with the great Preki and Steve Zungul), the "A" League/APSL /USL/USISL Sounders & FC Seattle Storm (WSA). Eli Mengem got to experience one of the premier pre-game environments found anywhere in the world....the Emerald City Supporter march from Pioneer Square to Century Link Field.
Now, if you really want to experience the Emerald City and her legion of soccer fans, along with another passionate site, Portland and the Timber Army supporters, come back over to this side of the pond for a home and home match between the longest rivalry in American professional soccer, Seattle and Portland. There is no love lost between the to cities, and matches the rivalry and intensity of Celtic/Rangers, Man United/Liverpool or Barcelona/Real Madrid. But of course......you have to wear Rave Green!

Looking at the comments I can see all there is about the good and the bad regarding football (or soccer) in the US. Most of it is true, but the main thing to me here is that it is growing fast and becoming more and more popular. It seems to attract a more diverse crowd, more liberal and in tune with social causes worth paying attention to, leaving behind the well known stereotypes we often associate with Baseball, American Football and Basketball. In my opinion, it's a very welcomed turn and long overdue. Keep it going, fellas. Cheers from sunny Brazil.

If you know your football history it was the upper classes and people who didn't like football who called it that. They called rugby 'rugger' and football 'soccer'. The working classes and people who liked the game have always called it football and only football. They've always made fun of people who say soccer, whether they were posh English idiots or Americans.

Traditionally, all English speaking countries outside of England call it soccer because we all typically have a more dominant code of football we already call football. Like Gaelic in Ireland. Or Gridiron in Canada and the US. And Aussie Rules in Australia. And of course, Rugby (far older than soccer or any other formal code of football) in South Africa and New Zealand.
That's why despite the sport being invented in the English speaking world, no English speaking country has won a world cup in 50 years. We simply play other codes of football.

The comments about bandwagon fans and remarks about the stadium not being full are funny coming from Europe, where there are a lot of famous clubs who only get their stadium full for derbies, but for a typical league matches the attendance is much lower, just a few thousand in some cases.
And to the people quoting attendance numbers, the Sounders had an average attendance of 43734 in 2014. According to Wikipedia, in the 2013-14 season there were just 23 European clubs that had a higher average. The attendance for the Sounders match featured by Copa90 was certainly a disappointment at just 38912.
And as for Europeans complaining about Americans copying the culture from Europe, well, where did you copy it from? From another European country, of course. It is not like this culture was born everywhere in Europe simultaneously. And of course you all know full well that in Europe, too, a lot of the same songs are sung by supporters of different teams (usually with their own lyrics, obviously). Of course some groups have original songs as well, and songs that other groups do not do but so do the supporters in Seattle.

One thing I wish the MLS would do is add at minimum 1 more DP slot, there are so many teams with incredible ownership with a boat load of cash that would for sure bring in many more high quality players to the league (Toronto FC, Sounders, NYFC, Orlando City, Galaxy, Red Bulls, Sporting KC just to name a few) The could easily afford another big name player or even two and not miss a beat financially, it would add a lot more talent to the growing league that is already in my opinion one of the top 10 leagues in the world.
