  • As campervan owners we all look forward to making our adventure plans for the spring and summer. After over 6 years of campervan ownership and over 100000 miles we have collected together our top 10 favourite campsites that are both wild and remote. From places close to home, to Wales and the Scottish Highlands and Islands, we just love the feeling of splendid isolation in some simply stunning locations.
    We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. We retired from teaching at the age of 51 in the summer of 2022. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.
    Please subscribe and like our videos if you like what you see.

    Many thanks,
    Richard & Jackie

    hello from church stretton in shropshire :-). I have a recommendations for you - the forestry commission have opened up their car parks year round for a nominal overnight fee if you are a self contained campervan and have some fabulous sites across northumberland and Scotland. Also keep an eye out on Mull as the council are building facilities on the crossing from Mull to the isle of Ulva. They have already put in the hook ups for camper vans and are building toilet and shower facilities.

      Church stretton is such a lovely little town! We have stayed in some of the Scottish forestry car parks which are fab - the facilities on Mull would be amazing - particularly in out of season weeks when most campsites are closed - we will keep an eye out for those 🚐 thanks for your recommendations as we are always looking for new ideas

    I love Tarn foot farm! We found it whilst on a hike and they are so friendly. We were chatting for ages. We've said we will definitely go back and stay

      It has a lovely feel to it, park up where you want, swim in the lake. There were lots of families in tents which was great to see - we will head back this summer 🚐

    Some great ideas. One campsite well worth a visit is Sands near Gairloch in NW Scotland. It has a large beach and covers a vast area. Tents and camper vans can set up where they want in rolling grasslands behind the dunes. Good facilities and a great cafe. Busy for school holidays but otherwise great.

    Enjoyed the video guys. Lots of excellent sites amongst that lot. We loved Fidden Farm and Horgabost and agree that the permit system in the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park works a treat. Safe travels. Irvine & Karen.

    Have you been to Rukins campsite in Keld? Not sure of its remote enough but it’s brilliant on a sunny day as just a short stroll from fabulous wild swimming spots. You can’t book, just turn up.

      No but we will definitely have a look. We want to stay at the Usha Gap campsite when it opens near Muker as we have only just discovered that part of the dales. Everyone says the wildflower meadows are a must 🚐

      We are working our way through a few campsites to show people what fab places are out there starting with Wasdale head NT site in the Lakes on Sunday 🚐 there is a video on Fidden farm campsite on Mull that Rich put the link to - it was stunning! Thanks for the suggestion 😊

    I won't be using the campsites as I don't have a van or a tent - but it was really interesting to see areas of the UK that I've never been to and that I need to visit (and there are lots of those!) - I have been to Kettlewell though 🙂.

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It was hard to resist having more campsites from the dales as there are definitely lots of wild and remote ones. The Long Mynd and church stretton should definitely go on your list in Shropshire 😊🥾🏔️

    Thank you, brilliant campsites, we look forward to exploring the Scottish islands in our Campervan, Victor, we've been to Skye, Mull, Rhum and Raasay, but not in a campervan. We will do this when we've both retired 😄🚐 Count down has begun 🍾

      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Před 4 měsíci

      Oooh- Rhum and Rassay are on our bucket list. How did you find them and would we cope ok in a van? The list of places to go just grows and grows😬

    If you like campsites on working farms, give Turner Hall Farm, Duddon Valley, Lake District, a go.

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Před 4 měsíci

      thanks for the recommendation, I have had a look at their Facebook page which looks like they are either closed permanently or drastically reducing to a few first come first served arrivals. May try later in the season when they are potentially open as it looks fantastic!

    • @paulfrance5059
      @paulfrance5059 Před 4 měsíci

      @@earlyretirementwanderlust They close for the winter. Their website (holding page) states ‘The Campsite will open from the 24th of May on a first come, first served basis’. I love the place, great walks by the Duddon river and the nearby Newfield Inn is pretty good too,

    40 a night wow , I would never pay more than 20 . Do you always go to sites ,I’m went to Scotland last year never paid at all to stay anywhere , you do well 2 of you in a VW T6 I’m only 1 man and a dog and stuggle in a small van

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Před 4 měsíci +1

      We were surprised when we looked up prices for the video to be fair!!! It used to be £24. It’s less with no hook up 🚐 we probably do a couple of nights park ups and a night at a site for a shower and to charge laptops and camera battery on bigger trips. We have loved the T6 and have done nearly 700 nights in it but it can feel a little crammed in the winter when we have more wet kit hanging around 🤣😊🚐
