  • Designed in conjunction with Capitol Studios, the Ultimate Ears Reference Remastered (UERR) succeeds the Reference Monitors as netural mixing and mastering in-ear monitors. I compare them to the Reference Monitors as well as Campfire Audio's Andromedas.
    Note: These are now being offered with UE's new connector instead of the 2-pin connector on my pair.

    I got myself a pair of Reference Remastered at CanJam this year. The tuning reminds me of Audeze headphones.
    They were trying out a new molding method using the tips from Revols

    Having flat and neutral tuning is quite unique in its own way. It's nice to have one gear in such tuning.

    Thanks for the information.
    What did you mean by fancy cable? Reason I ask is I need a new cable for my shure 535’s and I was probably going to buy shures replacement, does that fancy cable you mentioned limit microphonic noise?

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  Před 6 lety

      I wouldn't worry about fancy cables for a Shure 535. When people spend $1000 and more on IEMs, they sometimes buy an expensive cable to go with them, of which there are a vast number available. The UERR now comes with UE's new cable and plug anyway, so it's redundant.

    Speaking of e-earphone and customs, any experience with how some fitear models compare to the UEs you've used?

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  Před 6 lety +1

      I'd have to spend some time sitting down with the FitEar models, but I remember more of a focus on the mid-range with many of their models.

    Just got my custom UERRs today. Searching CZcams to see if there are other complaints of excessive mid-range, almost no bass, and attenuated treble. The sound is super clear, but very colored.

      hey ben I was thinking of ordering these for live broadcast mixing. I liked the idea of flat Eq curve, so now that you've had these for a while, what is your experience with them? thanks ben!

    Looking at getting Top of the line IEM's myself but due to the incredibly tiny size of my ears and ear canals, I was advised out of the Westone line-up to go at the very most with the 3 BA driver (ES30). Have you perhaps had any experience with these? Are there better options out there (universal or custom) that are great for tiny ears? (No etymotic cause deep insertion is uncomfortable - Even Westone flagship W80 are too large for my ears and they don't sit flush anymore) 😅

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  Před 5 lety

      Sounds like you need a single-bore IEM, if one exists. I'd honestly find someone who is very experienced with having CIEMs built. You could contact UE directly and see what they say. Another possibility is that there are companies that make special custom tips for regular IEMs. If you have a universal pair with a very long and narrow nozzle (eg: JH Audio) or some of the Shure universal IEMs, that might work too.

      @@Currawong thanks I'll look into the options. Looking into Shure SE846 for example. A higher priority is a DAP that can drive both my Cascade in balanced mode and inwoning custom ES30 from Westone.

    Are there IEMs that can mimic a full-sized-headphones experience like the iSines but in normal closed back form?
    I'm considering one of the tia-equipped IEMs from 64 Audio (e.g. N8t, U12t, tia Fourté). I'm looking for a 3D-like immersive experience, with great imaging, transparency and revealing resolution. I have no sound signature preference, but I'd like to stay away from thumping bass (high bass quantity esp. in mid-bass).

    • @shubu26
      @shubu26 Před 6 lety

      MFHRaptor why not try the JH audio Roxanne or Lyla ciem

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  Před 6 lety +5

      You cannot have true imaging with IEMs. Imaging is caused by how sound hits and reflects in the pinna (outside) of your ear. Inserting IEMs bypasses the pinna entirely, so you lose that. It can be faked somewhat by the tuning, or more extensively using DSP software that alters the timing of sounds. The greatest impression of soundstage I've experience in recent memory has been from the Campfire Audio Atlas, but it has a fair bit of bass. I don't think it is too much though.

    • @fangchen6805
      @fangchen6805 Před 6 lety +2

      I have both Roxanne and Layla, they don’t have great image, their image level is more like hd600 kind of, Lcdi4 had incredible image, incredible layering, but maybe because of the special tuning, some people like it some don’t and they are open. one thing surprise me is Noble X has really good soundstage and imaging. Zeus X-R Adel maybe the one your are looking for, good clarity, good imaging, not a lot of bass, but empire don’t make it any more, so sad.

    • @MFHRaptor
      @MFHRaptor Před 6 lety +1

      Perhaps IEMs can't truly give a sound like regular headphones, but I was referring to something comparable. I mentioned iSines as an example, but as I have tried very few regular IEMs, I don't know if any - that is closed-back - can give a similar experience.
      I am especially interested in 64 Audio offerings, specifically their top model tia Fourté. I've also heard good things about Unique Melody Mason V3.

    They were shockingly dark to me like the treble was -10db less than the rest!

    I have the UE CSX 18+ and they're seriously the worst ear/headphones I've ever heard. Very little detail and separation. It's like they EQ'd it to reduce highs and lows then boosted mids. Everything I have including the KZ AS10, Triple.Fi 10, SE530, Andromeda, HE-4XX, 58X, PS500e, 1990 Pro, 1770 Pro all sound way better. Is this normal?

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  Před 2 lety

      Is that model possibly for stage use? Because that's a common FR for people on the stage, where they need to hear the vocals of the other players, and a bright IEM would be too fatiguing. The LIVE is a lot like that.

    • @astifcaulkinyeras
      @astifcaulkinyeras Před 2 lety

      @@Currawong UE claims this about the CSX 18+: "Featuring world-class detail and increased volume headroom, you'll experience the full dynamic impact of the quietest verses and epic choruses." Their high, mid, low chart says the CSX 18+ has the highest highs. All of the above seem like bull poop to me.

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  Před 2 lety

      Are they brand new? That is, did you just receive them? If so, leave music playing through them for a couple of days. The UERR I received had almost no bass until I put a few hours on them.

    • @astifcaulkinyeras
      @astifcaulkinyeras Před 2 lety

      @@Currawong I bought them almost 2 years ago but used them probably less than 5 hours total because they sound so bad. Even 24/192 tracks through a DAC & amp sound crappy. I tried returning them but didn’t want to pay the 25% return fee. I just sent them to UE yesterday and paid $99 for their tune up service thing 🤞

  • @carlosturciosolivera1899

    Chifi is taking over.
    Way too pricey...is more branding than anything else.

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  Před 5 lety +2

      Not at all. Where they have the advantage is with customer service. Many of their customers are professional musicians. Let's say that they break or lose a custom IEM while touring. Who else could get them a replacement in a day or so? For the ordinary consumer like us, it's not as much of an issue though.

    • @perthlongboardingsociety321
      @perthlongboardingsociety321 Před 4 lety

      These are designed for a completely difference demographic than Chifi IEMs. As with most custom mold brands they are almost exclusively for musicians playing live music.
