  • Let's make a cork Slim Sling! This little ditty comes together super quick (even more so if you skip edge coating).
    Get the pattern here: lindshandmade.com/products/sl...
    The only changes I made were printing the pattern at 92%, I used a magnetic snap instead of a twist lock, and I quilted the flap.
    I sewed using a Juki TL2010q, a 4mm stitch length with Gutermaan Mara 120 thread, a size 16 needle. Double stick tape is from Wawak, glue is Beacon Fabri-Tac.

    I really enjoyed watching the Slim Sling come together. I have already made one with Linds Handmade SVG pattern. I used a snap for closure and it ripped out.. when repairing I will reinforce it with another material. I will order some magnets as opening and closing would be easier. I think the idea of quilting really makes difference as it gives more diemension without really changing the design. I would love to see you do a video on another reverse appliqué, like the paw pattern pouch you have made. That was the video that first inspired me. So many people have cutting machines today.. that are starting to make bags.

    I am replacing purse straps for a friend using faux leather. I bought double-sided faux leather strips and wanted to avoid sewing the edges if possible. I can't find any examples of that online, which makes me think the edges should be sewn together. I am sure that would help keep the bond from separating. I am concerned I won't do perfect job. Is it necessary to sew together? Would the bonded leather separate over time if not sewn? Would it look funny without the edge stitching? Would no edge stitching cause the straps to curl up on the edges?
    I ordered a leather tool to punch hole in the faux leather. Now I am wondering if I should do that since it is faux leather, not real leather. At the time I was thinking of only doing the attachment strips and not the straps. What would your recommendations be - use a sewing machine or leather hole punch (if that will even work on faux leather)?
    Also, your videos have convinced me I should edge coat - thanks!

    • @SewGnar
      @SewGnar  Před 2 lety

      For long term use sewing the edges will likely be the best option for constant use!

    • @SewGnar

      @@SewGnar I made one last night and watched your video again after wondering if I did something wrong by having the two pieces. I am going to do one in one piece for the next one and reduce it down too. Was the opening on the card slots enough? I know it felt short for yours on the first one but it still seemed wide enough. I was thinking an ID holder on the inside flap too.
      I guess if you don’t want it all the same cork you still have the option of two pieces.

    • @SewGnar

    Have a question for you...this is not related to this pattern. Generally, what is the best method to attach straps to crossbody bags? I do the ears (like in this one) and attach a removable adjustable strap. How do you prevent the small piece with D-ring from getting yanked out of the bag because of all the weight and stress the bag is put through??
    Nobody has complained so far but I worry about that. Is there a better way?
    Thanks!

    • @SewGnar
      @SewGnar  Před rokem +1

      Hi, thank you! Glad you’re here. It’s really a personal preference on strap attachments, however when I add the tabs I do a strip of decovil under it to help it’s strength. But I have had to fix a few peoples bags when they overload them 🫤

    • @ushalax77
      @ushalax77 Před rokem

      Thanks. So YOU have that prob too?! I thought I was the only one...the decovil suggestion is 👌👌 will do that.
      Will it look good if I attached the 1/2" strap with rivers to the front and back of the bag (for crossbody)? Or will it be more stress on the body of the bag? You are the expert.....so I ask! Thanks so much!

      You’d have to figure out the different snap/twist lock placement. Adding depth will change the overall look. If you want a 1/2” depth you’d have to add it too the exterior front and back and take into account the seam allowance
