How to Make a French Cut Venison Rib Roast | MeatEater Butchering Ep. 2

- MeatEater's Director of Conservation Ryan Callaghan demonstrates how to locate and make a French Cut Rib Roast from a whitetail deer. A French Cut Rib Roast is really just a piece of the loin or backstrap left attached to the tops of a few ribs. It’s a common product in a fancy package, the kind of meal you’d make for a special occasion or special people, like a Christmas dinner or a big date. It looks cool on the plate and will make it look like you really know what you’re doing as a wild game chef. All you need is a good knife and a reciprocating saw or hand saw.

We worked with the Benchmade Knife Company to make the perfect knife for turning a deer carcass into pretty packages of meat in the freezer. It’s called The Meatcrafter Knife--Steven Rinella Edition, and you should check it out. Available for purchase at your local Scheels store or online here: bit.ly/2P3zdmo

Hey Cal thanks for showing us how its done! Always great to learn new ways of how to present venison!!
Love the benchmade knife!
Wait, Cal's using something to saw other than a Stihl battery powered chainsaw?
a chef tip for cleaning the bones is to wrap a piece of butchers twine around the individual bones and give it a firm even pull to de glove the meat off the bone, takes some practice but works very well if you are doing a lot of them you tie one end of the twine to a table leg to make yourself a sort of station.
A little trick I've learned when it comes to Frenching the ribs is to use butchers twine. Wrap the twine around a rib and pull it towards you, and it'll pull all that meat off of that rib, and it makes it very clean and presentable.
is this part of that Milwaukee tool giveaway Cal was doing? such a versatile recip saw
Meatcrafter by Dewalt 🤣🤣🤣
Meateater Edition reciprocating saw when?
A much easier, faster and cleaner way to cut those ribs is with pruning shears, the ones with the 20” handles. And there’s no ‘sawdust’ bone bits in there then either. And no jagged edges either.
Art Franz a good whack with a butcher knife does the trick too
That actually sounds like a really good idea
Have you ever had Them Cut uncleanly
How come your deer are all shot in the backstrap?
Quartering shots
It’s road kill.
@@johnevans7065 I hope you're joking...
@@jacobheileson9750 I was joking.
2 things ocal get a fine tooth blade it will do a better job and use butcher twine one the ribs to remove any flesh way quicker and cleaner
Just look out for CJD please
Haha what did I just watch? That's called getting the job done but you will have bone fragments everywhere in there now. Get some heavy duty bolt cutters to crack the ribs. ( or those gardening 'loppers') looks tasty though.
Where’s the stihl chainsaw cal!!
M12 Hacksaw my son. Invest
was not expecting the recip saw! strange dude
This looks like a real pain in the ass
To clean the bones nicely, you can use dental floss. Loop it around the ribs and pull.
Get a smaller blade.....🤣🤣🤣🤣
Piss pore skills
Um... Makita would been better choice.
WTF was that? One thing it was not, was anything that resembled a skilled butcher. You might want to find a butcher and shoot your videos with him or her doing it properly.
I don't believe you. Hi would people hwve done it before power tools
Thanks
Great hunter, but a trash butcher. Also, lol at buying that overpriced knife.
Looks awesome but I will never support benchmade they are anti 2A
Did you post this message on an iPhone? Guessing they are big supporters of 2A.
they made a good business decision. keep politics and business separate. support benchmade if their products are good.
Because they helped local police destroy some guns?
@@SkeeterValentine0 yes
Agree business and politics separate. I won't buy a Benchmade knife because they are stupid expensive. You can get a nice handmade custom knife for 300$ .
Guy doesnt know what he is doing
This is the worst butchering I’ve ever seen. It’s actually embarrassing 🤣
This dude is the worst of the meateater crew.
