- Hey guys it's Cait! I really wanted to get to know SHINee as vocalists so I'd thought I'd react to their best vocals. I was really blown away by what they are capable of, the notes that they can hold are INSANE!! If you're a Shawol, show some love in the comments below and drop some suggestions!

Jonghyun and onew were the best duo main Vocalist ever in K-pop. They are next level. Taemin is Still becoming better and better.
SHINee is indeed a vocal powerhouse. All five of them are great vocalists and Jjong and Onew being two of the best in the industry. The Replay clip was during one of their SWC4 tour where it was close to their anniversary date. Jonghyun and Key are known to be the emotional ones and cry babies of the group followed by Onew. Replay has always been their pride and while they were performing the song, the fans did a surprise by wearing a party hat and carrying playcards with a sweet message. And ipI believe, it was also very emotional moment for Onew because he just returned from long recovery after his vocal chord surgery. SHINee is well-known to have a deep connection with Shawols and they always show their gratefulness whenever they can, from crying on stage, to bravely walking down from stage to let Shawols touch him directly, to writing countless songs dedicated to fans (Selene 6.23, Honesty, An Ode to You, Colourful, Countless, Pansy, Think of You and many more). So whenever fans do a surprise event for them especially during concerts, they always cry because they’re super touched and grateful for the unconditional love and support they receive.
yes, onew's voice is just... perfection, to me. you really should watch his nessun dorma performance. speaking of breath control, onew holds the record for the longest note in kpop for his performance of friend.. 40 seconds! the reason they were so emotional while singing replay was because of the surprise fan event the audience did.
SHINee's vocals are chef's kiss. Each member's voices are so distinct with each other, why they create the beautiful harmonies. Very versatile, probably coz since debut in 2008 theyve been trying different sounds, genre, vocal arrangements to create something new everytime. Onew's voice is just a gem.. all actually.

"Replay" means so much to SHINee and Shawols that everyone was very emotional during this stage. If you were able to see the audience you would have seen the whole audience are holding up signs. So that is why the members, and especially Jonghyun, started to cry. The signs had messages of love to SHINee. Jonghyun is known for having a very soft heart and he was always the first one to cry. And when Jonghyun started to cry that usually made Key also tear up, so they are the ones you will see cry the most at concerts and special moments. Those are not sad tears, they are happy tears because he is touched by the love of their fans. What I find even more impressive about that clip is the fact that Jonghyun was sobbing and yet, when he sang his voice was still crisp and clear and powerful.
The reason why the audience screams so loud and Onew cries during this performance of "Rainy Blue" is because this was Onew's first solo performance since having vocal surgery. It was a really scary surgery because there was no guarantee that he would ever be able to sing again, let along at the same quality as he did before the surgery. Onew spent about 3 months after his surgery not being able to speak at all in order to give his vocal cords time to heal and then he had to learn to sing all over again. This performance was proof to himself and the fans that he could still do it and that nothing had changed. ("Rainy Blue" is a cover of a Japanese song, which Onew has kind of made famous internationally. Onew is singing in Japanese. It was wrote by a Japanese singer/songwriter who also had the same surgery as Onew, but unfortunately, the songwriter's surgery didn't go as well as Onew's and the songwriter was never able to sing again. )
Onew's performance of "Nessun Dorma" was performed in 2016 as a solo stage during one of SHINee's Japanese concerts, but it is not the first time Onew has performed this song, he has been performing it since SHINee's early days. Whether it's a performance from 2011 or this one from 2016, there isn't much difference -- his voice is a little more mature in 2016, but it was still impressive from the beginning. Onew is not trained in opera, but he had been training as a singer for more than 10 years when this performance took place, and he has an amazing range and understanding of his voice. He is also a musical stage actor, so he understands how to project his voice to the back of the theater and he knows how to tell a story through the performance of the song.
The amazing thing about Key's high note in "Like a Fire" is that if you listen to the original version on their album, he doesn't have a high note in that song. But during that performance, which is from their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul, he, out of nowhere, decided he wanted to add a high note. It's almost as if he decided he wanted to try and outdo Jonghyun who is the group's high note master and the one who has the high note right before Key in the song. :D That's Key's classic diva attitude.
Jonghyun was the main vocalist of SHINee, but one thing you need to know about SHINee, is that they are all really main vocalists, so they can all fill in for each other, and they have. However, Taemin and Onew are the ones that have most often been tapped to fill Jonghyun's parts in most of their old songs, and even the parts that I think would have been his parts in their new songs. Taemin learned how to be a singer from Jonghyun, so his voice and vocal range is most like Jonghyun's, that is why he is the one to fill in for him most often.
Yes, dear, we hear them. We've been telling people for years that SHINee have the best vocals in the industry....lol. Love your excitement, enthusiasm, and appreciation. Jonghyun, unquestionably, has the best vocals of anyone in Kpop -- even to this day. Onew would be next. They all have such unique voices, that when blended, produce the most beautiful harmonies in the industry. Now Taemin, he's my bias, and he has quite the versatile voice. You should hear him sing Metal and Rock and don't even get me started on his ballads like "Under My Skin, and "Pansy'. However, for some real vocal acrobatics, you should react to his lyric videos of "Impressionable" and "Mystery Lover". When he harmonizes with himself....chef's kiss. Onew & Jonghyun. Actually, Taemin's 2020 album, "Never Gonna Dance Again, Pts. 1 & 2, is a vocal masterpiece that shouldn't be missed. Key and Minho also have fantastic solo albums to check out. Key can pretty much adapt to any song. Minho has his solo song, "Home", and we're hoping that now that he is back, a solo album will be forthcoming. His sultry dark tones are beautiful.
Onew, on a whim, decided he wanted to try Opera. So, he practiced with a professional for a few months, and then performed "Nessun Dorma" at SHINee's concert for his solo pick. Amazing isn't he? Can you imagine if he had had classical training from the start? Oooh. Bad Idea. Then he may have become an opera singer rather than be in SHINee. BTW: that note he sang was over 40 seconds long.....

Everyone in SHINee is a great vocalist, but outside of the fandom, only a few know that. Taemin is my bias as well. I super love Pansy and Under My Skin. Mystery Lover,, Clockwork, Day and Night, and Love. Actually, all of his songs, most especially the ballads.

Jonghyun is forever my Favorite vocalist, and my ult bias among every group i stan and i’ve ever stan before :’ his vocal is just 👌🏻 like he has this vocal color that’s just so freaking special
All of them are amazing vocalists, but no one has touched my heart as much as Jonghyun. The way he emotes the lyrics, I don't need to understand his language. I can feel the emotions, the story of the song through his voice.

I became a SHINee and Jonghyun's fan since they debuted, it was just way too painful for us to lose our precious blingbling diamond, however, I didn't and will never ever regret that I became his fan. On the contrast, like you said, I am just grateful that they came into my life, all those memories made me feel soooooo blessed. The only thing I am regretful is not so much people notice how good and hard work they are, I just hope this world know what did they lose.
If you are interested in more of their performance, SHINee World IV (including that Excuse Me Miss, Replay in the end) is recommended, and Tokyo Dome concert is also classic.
btw, that long note Onew held is still the longest record for KPOP idol as far as I know, and that solo opera performance is on 2011, their first world tour, just 3 years after their debut, he was 22.
And Taemin wasn't the vocal line when they debuted(he is leading dancer, sometimes even rap but not known for singing), everyone think Jonghyun helps a lot for his vocal training, that's why sometimes Taemin sounds like Jonghyun, and now, for that iconic Lucifer long note, it's Taemin doing it instead.
They are excellent in ballads, but among all KPOP idol, the fact they can keep their singing so steady while doing crazy hard choreographies is legend, you can check out "Everybody" performance (Tokyo Dome edition is famous), it's known for one of the most difficult choreography, while four of them do the high note in the end.
Oh, and last but not least, please check out Jonghyun's "Y Si Fuera Ella", it is his solo performance on their first world tour too.

I am glad that SHINee is getting the recognition that they deserve nowadays. I'm not sure if you only knew them now or you've been a fan for a long time but still, thank you for your attention.
I also love that you appreciated Onew's voice. I hope he finds this video so he would realize that his voice is indeed beautiful. I feel like he feels insecure about his voice because he lacked practice.
I think, you should also listen to their ballads like honesty, one minute back and others. Their harmonies are superb. I know you'll appreciate them more.
Thank you for reacting to SHINee, they are incredible singers and their harmonization on a different level. One thing that makes SHINee so special is that everyone has a very distinct sound to them, but blend together, perfect harmonization. There's a lot I would suggest to you, but lets start with one of SHINee's greatest hit ever, Sherlock. You may wanna check Sherlock (Clue + Note) from SWC IV concert. Its the epitome of showmanship. Superb live performance + explosive vocals. Also a classic SHINee's ballad, Sleepless Night, one of my all time favorite :)

I remember when they were doing the tour concerts in japan in Onew solo part he started holding his note. Each day he would hold it longer and longer. In the last day of the tour wich is this video cut he held it for 43 seconds or a little more. It was amazing watching every new upload and seeing how much he would hold the note that day

- Replay is their debut song in 2008, Taemin was just 14 then. The clip here is from their 2015 concert. Might be an emotional one hearing those fans singing with them and of course this might have made them remember how they started and how far they've come already, how their hardwork paid off. There are also fan events like while they are singing fans create a msg that SHINee can read while performing and it makes them emotional (see their performance of Love from Tokyo Dome).
- That long note by Onew is actually 40 seconds long.
- Taemin from not being able to sing well during Replay area (his voice wasn't very strong or stable yet), to being the one that covers those difficult Jonghyun's part after he left. So much hardwork he put in.

Onew's Rainy Blue performance, was emotional for him because it was his first solo performance after getting nodules removed from his vocal cords and he wasn't sure if he would ever sing again.
Replay was their debut song and it was during SHINee World Concert IV the fans surprised them by holding up placards with a heartfelt message which caused an emotionally visceral reaction from the guys. They ended up staying on stage and singing an acapella version of Replay as a way of saying thank you. They love Shawols so much, and I'm so happy to have been able to be under the same roof as these five talented men when I saw them in Chicago for one of their fan meets. It was one of the best nights of my life.
