  • Silhouette is a stand-alone roto, paint and VFX application used in feature film post-production.
    Create sophisticated keyframeable mattes using B-Spline, Bézier, or X-Spline shapes. Intelligent design and easy-to-use tools, such as variable per-point edge softening, assist in creating articulate animations. Render mattes with realistic motion blur or export to industry-standard shape formats.
    Silhouette is now a Boris FX product. Download a free trial at: www.silhouettefx.com/silhouette/

    It's not good practise to subtract shapes in the roto like you do with the thumb. It's far better to provide intersecting objects as separate layers.

      Great point. This is just an introduction video to show the basic tools and we do demonstrate that other way of working in other videos. Good to have your input here with this video. Thanks!

    Hi Ben and people of Boris!. I was wondering what is the difference between doing a rotoscoping with Mocha pro and Silhouette? I understand that the latter is much more precise for hair but , in essence, do the same principles apply as those seen in the rotoscoping tutorial in Mocha pro?

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem +2

      Roto as a skill is largely software agnostic. Once you know the principles, you can transfer those ideas to other bits of software. What is different are the types of tools and features that are available in the different bits of software. The art of rotoscoping is essentially the same though.

    how to add points for bspline inbetween the keyframes?

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před 4 lety +2

      Add points by holding the Alt/Opt key down. You will see the cursor change to a arrow with a tiny plus sign in the corner.

    Hey there! I have a question; if I accidentally deselect my spline, how do I reselect the point so I can continue my shape? Or do I have to start my shape over?

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  Před rokem +1

      Great question. Have the Reshape (arrow) tool selected and make sure you have one of your end points selected too. Now Alt-click (Opt-click on Mac) and it will add more points to your spline. You can then close the shape by alt-clicking on the other open point.

      Hit Shift-T to go to the Tracker. It is also the icon third from the bottom that looks like a dot inside a square inside a dotted square.
      If you are brand new to the software, I would recommend the entire Silhouette Quick Start series starting here : czcams.com/video/28aOPIVLZH0/video.html

      @BorisFXco  Před 4 lety +2

      You can float panels by clicking and dragging on the name tag at the top. The panel will come free and you can either dock it into the UI or have it floating.
      Depth hotkeys are pretty much the same as the regular roto node. D gives you a preview of the depth channel, like A switches to Alpha channel view. Most of the main depth nodes have no default shortcuts to activate them. You can see what the modifiers do on page 474 and onwards in the user guide.
      Appendix B in the manual gives you *all* the shortcuts.

    ya'll need to hire an actual educator. these are very subpar tutorials. no objective over views and results in the beginning (I know the title is there but still standard practice), no real explanation of scenarios or solves for problems till after the tool or feature is demonstrated. Lots of room for improvement.

      @@BorisFXco I see. thanks. I'm doing those now. I still feel the education is built around features rather than outcome. I'm a relative beginner 3/10 and understand concepts and done simple rotoscoping trying to level up my talent.
      what puts Boris behind Adobe is an obvious price point which excludes other users from creating tutorials to the degree of adobe, but also what adobe has is outcome focused learning. e.g. Here is what we're trying to do, here is what we can do to get there. With Boris it feels: Here are the features and tools we have and we'll run down them in a line as a manual goes. So going through my 12th video I see tips and moves that would have been useful knowing about way earlier when starting my roto comp. E.g. Power mattes as a powerful tool to do a quick and dirty then if you need more refinement, open shapes and stroke width on the hair etc etc.
      I hope this doesn't come off as simply complaining but maybe some helpful feedback for learning programs on a software that unfortunately doesn't have a user base that has space to make tuts on their own (presumably bc they're all working professionals on high end projects lol) It's been fun learning and thanks for having these.
