The thing you called a knife rest is a vajra. It’s part of buddhist and Hindu ritual. The bell is also used as part of the ritual, as far as I know. I’m not familiar with the concepts behind those objects, but I saw vajra in Japan and in Tibetan art.
Prior to home intercoms, when house were more mansions than homes, the bell pull alerted the individual home staff to come to that particular room. Downton Abbey used the bell pull system a lot if you ever watched the show.

Well done mammoth task of garage sales gosh. Mumma would have been worn out. Next time pack a big picnic with a chilli bin and thermos for drinks, wipes, sanitizer. A big cart with wheels be great it could also hold a couple of small light fold down tripod seats. 9 hours is way too long to be on feet but glad you both found lunch though. Loved the fabric Mumma and umbrella. Also loved the cream dragon Kimono that is amazing the shorter one was cool too. Lucky girls great finds.😊 I go to my daughters for baths too she has a giant deep one. Showers aren't the same.
Your mom' jacket was cool, especially as Compton is about 10 miles to the nearest beach--and isn't known for it's surfing!!!

Hi Selena and Mom! I have been collecting Asian jackets/robes for years. I literally gasped when I saw the one you found with dragons. The double-dragon design is quite rare. The embroidery technique is called couching, but yours is also padded or pillowed. It is an extraordinary find. (I have two such robes and it took me years to find them.) Probably other people have told you that the needlepoint piece is a bell pull. It is hung on the wall with a bell at the bottom, and used to call servants. The vintage bead necklace you showed at the end looks like wedding cake beads.

Hi Selena & Mama, it's so awesome that you love spending time together. I too treasure the moments that I spend with my Mommy. We're pro thrifters too! We're so lucky to have our Mommy to cherish. Alot of people don't have that or take the time to be with their parents. We do the same thing in that we look for treasures for each other. Have a blast every opportunity! 👍😉😂

My favorite thing is the fun the two of you have together! My mom loved to go to yard sales, she passed about six years ago, then my daughter passed nine months later. I have lost on both ends ! I think it’s great the two of you make time to do the things you love to do together. Plus, who can resist the excitement mom has when she finds a shower curtain for $2.00 or a free surfers jacket. Then there’s always a chance y’all will find a five hundred pound concrete cherub baby water fountain ! Look out now, that thing would be all up in the back of the car, everything else would be in the front seat and mom would be tied to the top ! I love watching the two of you, especially if I am drinking a large margarita while I watch! LOL

A Victorian ‘Bell-Pull.’ The bell goes at the bottom. Were used to ‘summon’ the maid/servant to come.🙋♀️👍
I love the three vintage silk pieces. Wondering if a soldier bought them during WW2? My grandpa had a silk embroidered bedspread that was kept in cedar chest. Thanks for taking us along and have a great week!

Those cuffs, especially the bigger one🥰. When my Mom was young ,in the late 1960s , men would bring robes back from overseas military tours. My Moms sat in the box until I grew up and wore it. That red one though!

It's called gold couching or gold work. There are quite a few videos on youtube that show how it's done. I'd bet that piece is from the late 40's early 50's and likely brought back from WW2 as a gift for someone's wife.

My favorite thing is the cream/blush long slip dragon Asian robe. My Asian sign is the dragon so I have a small on purpose but because collection of gorgeous expensive dragon's on display in my home. Ciao.

I think the silk kimonos might be something that was brought back by someone in the military. Service men would bring these presents back for their wife’s and sweethearts. Those kimonos are definitely vintage if not possibly antique. What an awesome garage sale find! Priceless
