As for penalty kick more often than not teams have a designated taker. Now in a one on one situation with the goalkeeper to me any player have the rights to have a go. Nothing selfish as far I'm concerned because so many times we saw player one on one with the goalkeeper decided to pass to his teammate and the teammate ended up missing and people would end up saying he should have a go himself. Pendulum swings both ways.
As a striker you have to be selfish. That’s the only way to learn to score. What happens if they pass and then still miss? Exactly. And some of the plays the striker can’t even see his teammates so he has to go for it. Not all these plays are selfish plays.
