  • A Look Inside Classic Hollywood Movie Stars' House - Incredible Homes.
You know their work on the big screen and their love lives, but have you ever wondered about the dwellings they once called their own? Back in the day, Old Hollywood's elite used to conquer California one lavish abode at a time, acquiring homes in upscale neighborhoods like Encino, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, and Palm Springs. Some had their dream estates constructed from the ground up, while others snapped up pre-existing houses and put their own personal spin on them. These are the homes of some of Old Hollywood's biggest legends.

I love these old homes, they have so much more character than anything built today.

I used to live in Westwood, very close to The Pink House with the heart shaped gates. I had a movie stars' homes map book and would take all my visitors on driving tours. So glad I got to take my dad right to Jimmy Stewart's house. There were no security gates, just a curb and a sidewalk like a normal neighborhood. He stood on the sidewalk out front asking, "So he's in there?" Yep, probably! My dad was one of his drivers in the military. He respected Mr. Stewart so much. Most of these places are gone now, or destroyed beyond recognition.

So pissed they tore Valentino's house down. It should have been made a national landmark. Same with the Pickford estate. The person that bought the house tore it down because of structural dangers only to find out years later they tore it down because they said it was haunted. Same with Jimmy Stewarts house. Another that should have been put on the National Registry. It should have been stopped. To destroy mansions like those is a sin. Damn shame.

Many recent demolitions are done by owners with Russian or Arab money, and are replaced with houses that look like airport terminals. Was just on a tour of Bel Aire.

Mary Pickford would have dinner parties, and talk to her guest by telephone! Amazing.

Fun Fact: Mary sometimes got a wrong number and talked to strangers. (Okay, I made that up.)

These homes are so gorgeous. Nothing like the tasteless garbage they build these days.

The celebrities had class and style then. Today’s picks are just trash now. Bigger is usually not better and most of the time cheaply built.
