  • In this video I compared Austin Vs Charlotte on various aspects. The two cities are very similar in terms of growth, population, and top cities to live in. However there are some glaring differences.
This video is for anyone who is considering moving to Austin or Charlotte. Which city do you see yourself living in?

I visited Charlotte last year and I loved it! A lot of entrepreneurial Black people and young transplants there. Still has that southern charm with a big city vibe. Still needs to develop more and the food could use improvement but the people there were pretty friendly. Also Charlotte FC is the pro soccer team there and I'm jealous of how great the atmosphere is already!

As a single black person over the age of 30, I would choose a city with a mature population, low cost of living, diversity in race and culture, decent paying jobs that cover the cost of living in the area, and amenities that caters to all age, gender, and racial group rather than just one. I’ve heard so many people along with the media stating Austin is a wonderful place to stay in the United States with high paying jobs, the motto of keep Austin weird by looking at bats under the bridge (don’t understand the point of that) and partying at the bars and lounges all night long (not a fan of neither bars or clubs), however, I tend to disagree. When my cousins and I visit Austin two years ago, it was a totally different atmosphere than what was hyped up from the media. The traffic was horrible due to overcrowding, homeless camps found in different areas of the town as a results of lack of affordability since so many people is moving there, food scene is not the greatest compare to other southern US Cities like New Orleans, Houston, and Mississippi; lack of diversity in race and culture, and there too many college kids hanging around for us. My cousins and I kept asking where’s the minority population of the city the whole time we were there and don’t understand the hype the media is trying build in Austin. Plus, the cost of living in Austin is astronomical and almost on par with California cost of living due to overcrowding and lack of infrastructure to handle the huge increase in population.
I’ve never been to Charlotte but I do like the fact you mention the cost of living is much cheaper compare to Austin along with diverse in population in terms of race and age group which is a big deal for me when it comes to moving to a new city. If I had to choose a Texas city to move to, it would be Houston over Austin and Dallas, another overrated city and the 2nd most expensive city to live in Texas due to people migrating there as well. Houston have a very diverse scene in population, variety of food scenes, culture, and amenities for all races, gender, and age group. Plus, the cost of living in Houston is much cheaper than the cost of living in both Austin and Dallas.
I would suggest people conduct their own research to see if a city would suit your needs or if you will truly be happy with where you live before judging your decision on the media or other sources. What may be a best place for other people to live may not be best for you.

I am thirty-five years old. I connected through Charlotte on the plane going through to Pensacola. I was in eighth grade then. I thought the city was so cool. Years later, i did a few trips to Charlotte. Then, I got a job where I traveled to Charlotte quite frequently. Now, this summer, my family and I are planning a trip there to relocate. Was thinking about Austin only because I could get a transfer to another position in the startup I am working. However, I am focus on Charlotte, Houston and Chicago. It all comes down to affordability for me. Houston have a little edge because of the no income tax. Still love chicago, not a fan of the cold but I can tolerate it. Hello, I would choose Charlotte over Austin. I feel it is important to look for a place that has services, programs and activates that benefit the individual or family. I also believe people should research the laws before deciding to move where they are going to. For example, many people flock to Florida and not realizing how much of a Red state it is. Outside of a few areas Florida is very rural and deep red. Jacksonville and Tallahassee have a good population of Black people and due to how the new Congressional District has been drawn. It will no longer be a Majority Black Congressional District.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on charlotte vs Austin! My family and I recently moved to Austin from charlotte abt three months ago. I saw someone ask in the comments what its like living in Austin from the black perspective, I agree 100%, there are not alot of black people in Austin. But that hasn't become a deal breaker for me only bc the people here are over all welcoming. Unfortunately there are some people who give off racist or prejudice vibes but it's not overwhelming for me since I've also experienced that in charlotte. If anyone is considering Austin I believe that it would probably be better to visit a few times first like I did. It was easy for me to make the decision to move here bc my husband's native to Austin. But I believe it is still a nice place to be in terms of being around different cultures.

Austin seems chill from what I see and it seems like it has a lot of opportunities with a lot businesses that have moved there. I don't know what to do for real. I guess I have to visit both.

Tons of food trucks with super inventive fusion. However it’s crazy expensive - And we’ve lived in NYC, LA and SF so high food prices we are used to. Not sure if it’s a result of the pandemic, inflation etc but it’s very very expensive to go out to eat.

Now as I approach 40 I am considering Austin again but Charlotte is a viable option. I remember the struggle of finding a barber shop that fit me and of microaggressions more than outright racism so I will say Austin is a friendly city but after awhile it felt like getting to know people was an activity to excel for residents. I'm glad you did this comparison video! I lived in Austin for four years; I haven't been to Charlotte but I know it's another up-and-coming city.
I think you might be exaggerating how warm Austin is in the winter. It starts getting cold in mid-October (I remember it was always chilly on Halloween) and it doesn't get consistently warm until mid-March, so a period of *potential* cold for five months. The thing about Austin winters is that half the time it is actually fairly warm like you said, and the other half is much colder (i.e. lows in the 30s) because of cold fronts from the north.
A lot of CZcams videos about Austin bring up the supposed lack of sports, but setting aside the Austin FC MLS team, Austin does have professional teams; they're just all minor league. I'm a fan of the Round Rock Express AAA baseball team!
I'm surprised you don't think more highly of Austin's restaurants! Btw, Perry's Steakhouse & Grille is a chain and there's a location in Raleigh. I'm glad you gave the win for "things to do" to Austin!
As for the racial breakdown, both cities are diverse but in different ways. As of 2020, Austin is 73 percent white but that's only if you combine non-Hispanic and Hispanic whites; if you separate Hispanic into its own ethnic group (as you did for Charlotte), Austin is 48 percent non-Hispanic white and all Hispanics make up 34 percent. Blacks and Asians are 8 percent each. For Charlotte, as of 2020 it's 40 percent non-Hispanic white, 32 percent black, 16 percent Hispanic/Latino, and 7 percent Asian. So Charlotte has more blacks but fewer Hispanics. I can understand there being specific race- or ethnicity-based shortcomings in either city, like with hair care. But while I can't speak for Charlotte, I can personally attest to Austin being diverse in terms of the *type* of people that are there (you have everyone from hippie artists to tech yuppies) and also geographic diversity. When I was in Austin I met people who moved to there from all parts of the country, and especially from all parts of Texas, because they were drawn to Austin through shared goals and interests. I did feel like Austin was a kind of melting pot where like-minded or like-spirited people from different backgrounds and with different life experiences came together in one city.

You could go to the mall or any public place and in the span of 5 mins see people from 100 different countries. I've lived in Houston and not even Houston has the same type of diversity as Charlotte but that's okay, it's only a big deal to to those the value such a thing.

I lived in Atlanta for over a decade and now live in Dallas. I visit Austin frequently on business. Here is my thing that I’ve observed over the years. Charlotte and Atlanta don’t like it when Texas enters the chat lol! They are so use to being the place to be when it comes to the SE outside of Florida. They claim Texas is in the SW lol! I’m kind of joking, but not really. Dallas and Houston city and metro is larger than Atlanta and Austin has surpassed Charlotte in population. Austin is very interesting place to me because 10-15 years ago, it wasn’t on Charlotte radar. It literally caught up on some Dubai type ish! Charlotte is no longer the only boomtown in the south like back in the 90’s and 2000’s. Even Nashville has joined the party. I do give Charlotte the edge as far as sports and diversity. Both could use more diversity in Food scene for improvement. Charlotte new entertainment areas under construction will be a much better choice than Austins bar after bar, live bands bar after bar style. That Gets old fast too. Charlotte has much better transportation, nothing special though then Austin. both needs more improvement. I personally don't need this got to have more black or more white people there to make that a deal breaker. i don't like that. i prefer an international city hands down, much like you see in Miami or Los Angeles or New York. "It's an older city, and Austin that's younger has hundreds of new constructions happening now, until 2050."
Since they have a Democrat governor, the MAJORITY of big companies were NOT going there, but to TEXAS, period.

I say live in Pflug, tx if you’re in need of black culture in Austin. Honestly, not a fan of living here. Rob hit the nail with being in your 30s and surrounded by college kids. I’m ready to move back to ATL after the military and 2.5 years as a civilian in Austin. Austin is the second least favorite area I lived. If you’re gonna live in TX as a black person or single over 28, go to Dallas, or Houston. They’re more diverse and grown.

I agree with you. In my opinion, Austin is very overrated and does not have a diverse in population in terms of race and age group (ex: mostly college kids rather than single adults age 30 and over). Dallas is ok but also overrated and expensive right behind Austin. If I had to choose a Texas city to live in, I would pick Houston over the rest of the Texas major cities.

@@chipwilliams6236 I did not said anything about being around college kids as a problem in Austin. In fact, it’s great to see to young college kids population at any major city. What I was talking about is the City of Austin is not diverse in terms of race and variety of age group. Everyone keeps saying Austin is great place to live and act like it’s wonderland when in reality is just an overrated overpriced city. The average job pay is very low when comes to the cost of living and the traffic is horrible due to lack of infrastructure to support the high volume of traffic. Houston’s population is more diverse in terms of race, ethnics, and age group, cheaper to live, have better food options, and more things to do for everyone than Austin.

I seriously don't know why Austin keeps making all these top list in this and that its seriously nothing special and people are starting to find this out. Also if you don't work in tech you won't have a lot of good paying job options here all while 1 bedrooms are starting at 1600+ now. @@jema5039 I’ve never heard that take. Mid size cities typically like to become major metros because it means more revenue and opportunities for the communities. I’m sure none would like 20% growth for 20 years. That’s insane and too quick. Only the locals dislike it but I’m sure city council and other major city politicians like the growth. I’m sure they would like to take over for the largest metro in texas. It’s only bad if it’s no opportunity attached. In my opinion.

Texas property taxes are ridiculous considering the temperature and the rise and heat the property value for this places are going to go down. I wouldn’t live in either of those cities because those typical states are usually ranked top five worst states to live in. The gun laws make it very unsafe. The school systems are terrible and the politics are very One-sided so you’re going to only get one view out of the entire pot government it’s never too good to live in an area where it’s completely left or completely right you want to try and find a place that somewhere in the middle if anyone suggests that their party is completely right Stay far away from them because that’s ridiculous. That’s that’s that’s impossible. How can you not agree with anything that the other party has to say on any subject I mean that’s that’s crazy like I don’t believe in certain things the Democrats say I don’t believe in anything they Republicans have the same period as of right now but when they were Before the Trump came in there were so many good candidates in our Paul, Ryan, John McCain just just good people that wanted to do well for the people that were in their states and unfortunately we have a really bad vibe in that party so it’s completely been destroyed, so I suggest not living in the states The only reason why Texas is doing very well right now economically is because of the infrastructure bill and the other $40 billion that Biden gave him and they also refused 2500 jobs offered to them by the border for the border so they would have 25 brand new jobs for Texans and that area, making good money, working for the state protecting the border, and the governor denied it The bar wire that was cut was authorized by the Supreme Court and for those of you know, don’t know who the Supreme Court is that’s our highest judicial system that has both Republican and Democrats in the courtroom and they cannot pass judgment without, including the majority of judges out of the odd number on there so it took Republicans to say no to the Barbwire just to let you know because I know a lot of y’all reach and if you look at the border crisis in Texas, you should really be asking your governor where the billions of dollars went the past 17 years that they were given and have shown no results for the money that they had they were literally given billions of dollars and have nothing to show for it and then as soon as Biden gets in the office I mean literally that’s when this huge rise in immigrant start coming in and there was a bill offered two Texas along with the hundred billion dollars that Biden gave to your state to help the economy and I mean if you look at your economy from the moment that Biden gave me that money until now you’re one of the highest earning states in the country they refuse to accept help for for more border agents along the border approximately 2500 that would’ve been government funded so the state one of you had to pay for and they said no because they refuse to help anything that keeps Biden in office so they’re absolutely just trying to destroy anything they can to make Biden look bad whether it’s your jobs you’re well-being by who they’re letting in and the refusal to take help and give 25 Americans in Texas jobs with the government. They said no to it so because of that, I say fuck no I’ll never live in Texas. That governor is doing anything that is spite and he’s hurting the own his own people in his in his state that he supposed to go and look out for he’s hurting them like literally like if you live in that state and you have any family you don’t have a job or you have a son that wants a good job I mean we’re talking like $60,000 a year just starting with benefits and you know that’s a good job for 2500 people and they need it so I’m gonna put a link in the in this conversation to the Republican journal that was written by Republican in Texas about the border and he questions what Abbott was doing with Billings the hours of the past 17 years about the border and why now all the sudden it’s an issueand why he said no to the White House when they offered him ridiculous amount of help and money that would’ve helped the state so here it is that are on there www.texastribune.org/2022/04/18/texas-border-security-spending/

Texas and North Carolina are absolutely terrible states to visit there’s really not much to do I mean when you’re driving in Texas you’re literally driving in Texas just forever there’s nothing to do there’s not much to see me and you can shoot a gun a few times but like who cares I suggest you the West Coast there’s a whole lot more going on I mean the women in California are absolutely gorgeous. If you have never been to California especially near like Rehoboth Beach you should go because you will not believe what you say I mean it’s literally every female that that that will walk past. You is just gorgeous is gorgeous I mean, I’ve never seen anything like it. I was there for two weeks and they were all pretty every single they don’t smoke cigarettes in a lot of town so you won’t be around cigarettes, weeds, legal you can smoke as much weed as you want. You can go surfing you can sit on the beach. I got great food out there. People are generally in a good mood, there are rough areas like LA that place is rough after night I suggest to get the F out of there I live in the East Coast and New York and Manhattan. They’re overrated they’re dangerous as shit they’re really not much going on there. I mean you can go to Manhattan and drop like 60 grand that makes you feel happy doing something like that and maybe get a Rolex by the way, Rolexes are always like mad I bought my Rolex and it was always like five minutes slow so I wouldn’t buy one of those. They’re overpriced but outside of United States. The best country I’ve ever visited was Saudi Arabia hands-down that place is amazing there is no crime there is no there’s nothing to worry about you can walk down the street and no one will take anything. You can leave your wallet sitting on the table it won’t be taken. You don’t have to worry about anyone having a gun did you have religious things that you need to follow but the people are very nice. There is no stress it’s it’s surprised really you be surprised how crazy we live here today and how stress-free the people in Saudi Arabia live there even the poorest families in Saudi Arabia have a better life than those who live here and it’s only improving. They just now legalized alcohol for some diplomats so it’s gonna end up being a really good place to be and like I said, it’s extremely safe as long as you don’t do anything dumb you’ll be OK but that’s where I would suggest you go if you ever leave the country go to Saudi Arabia and just to see what it feels like to be safe at all times it’s a weird feeling something you never felt in your life you can let your kids play outside and nothing happened to them. It’s just you know if you break the law there and you do something wrong. They will literally cut your head off in front of everybody, so you just think twice we’re doing some and I’m not somebody that commits crime so now they have their ways of dealing with things and we have our only no one’s walking around with guns. The government is going around shooting killing people, so I was just a better place to live our country. Guns aren’t needed people think they need their guns that keep them safe from the government which is completely ridiculous. Like what makes you think your guns in your basement or wherever you keep them we’re gonna stop you are gonna stop the government from overthrowing like what makes you think they’re gonna use weapons to take you down they have viruses but 100% kill rate it’s ridiculous and at the same time you’re saying no to abortion because of the sanity of life but yet you have guns just in case you need to kill your government just like Broman stop that’s why I hate the south. I hate that Bible bullshit that they try to push. I don’t believe in it it’s fake I caught out that preacher on that you’ll see on CZcams where he has the set up. It’s all set up. We’ll have somebody say some ridiculous question so he can give him a great answer. It’s just a set up man you know I dare that dude to ask me questions and now and I’ll put his faith in a whole Nother level and it’s funny cause when you click on his website, he immediately asked for a $25 donation and I’m like bro you gotta be kidding me so that’s what you get with that. They’re always asking for donations. It’s just disgusting. They’re making profit of peoples faith but good luck to you. Adios one of them were pretty.
