  • In this tutorial, I explain how I set up my iRig Stream and my iPhone to record my drum covers. This question comes up often, and I thought I'd share how I do it. It's a really simple process. I do take some extra steps so I can hear my screen reader when the iRig is connected to my phone. Also, the iRig is bus powered, so I did not need to connect the power supply to the iRig in order to get it working, as you will see in this video.
    For this, you will need:
    iRig Stream
    iPhone
    Drum Module
    dual TS to RCA cable
    Instructions:
    1. Connect the TS connections to main output of module
    2. Connect RCA ends into iRig Stream
    3. Connect Lightning connector to iRig Stream.
    4. Connect other end of Lightning connector to iPhone
    5. open iPhone camera app
    6. Set camera to video mode and start recording.
    7. Play!

I bought a rca to xlr yesterday since I have my kit going through a Yamaha mixer and then that didn’t work and then I thought you were supposed to use the headphone output but that didn’t work either. I guess I gotta get a third cable tomorrow🙈 I very much appreciate the information. Thank you so much!!

Nice tutorial. It is appreciated. One suggestion to make things easier for you: Swing the phone bracket around to the other side (drum side) of the phone. It will give you an unobstructed control surface, and it will not block the camera lens (as long as the bracket is not positioned directly over it). Keep up the good work.

Easier way to record video is to flip the phone front ways. Easier to maneuver. I use iRig HD2. Take a TRS cable which records in stereo. That to the module to the iRig into the phone. I got a mini mixer with 4 ports and got a wireless headset mic to talk during a livestream which is pretty neat. Pretty cool technology now days. Drums sound good too.

Cool tutorial! I wonder if I need the iRig stream then. I bought the iRig HD2 and I cannot get clean audio directly from my Roland TD11 module into my iPhone 8 Plus for live-streaming. What’s happening is when I open the phones camera it’s recording using the camera mic and not using the good sound from my module. This sounds like I didn’t even turn my module on and I’m just hitting the pads with no drum sounds. I want to be able to livestream to Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok but want the clean sound from the module being used.

    • @DWRhythm

      Try doing this:
      1. Download and install iRig Recorder app
      2. Open app and go to settings
      3. Turn on "Background Audio" option.
      4. Try streaming and see if that works.
Note: You must have iRig Recorder running on your phone while trying to stream. Also, you do not need to use the iRig Recorder app for anything other than enabling that background audio option.

    • @DWRhythm

It's a modded Alesis RealHead trigger designed to accept a mesh hed instead of mylar. I didn't switch anything. This was my kit when I used my TD-9 module. I just changed out the module, and added an additional PDX100.

    • @DWRhythm

the Type C to .5 is converting a digital signal, so it responds a bit differently. If you use the iRig Stream, all the connections will be on the box that connects to your phone via the type C to iRig Stream cable that is supplied with the iRig.

I don't see how it would be. the Stream was meant for line level signals. the irIg 2 is meant for instrument level signals, if I underestand correctly. Also this device has a level controller. YOu may also want to make sure the signal going into the devide is not too hot or that could cause some problems with sound. You may even be able to fix with your current setup. just need a very low output volume from your source.
