    A pretty underrated aspect of Chewbacca's death is that, at the end of Vector Prime, a disturbed Han states that, for years, he felt that he and his loved ones were surrounded by a "bubble" that saved their lives everytime they got in danger, being that "bubble" something that filled him with great security and carelessness. But now that Chewie is gone, he is feeling again the awful fear of death that haunted him before meeting Luke by the first time. What a way to symbolize that the characters will never again have plot armor.

    • @teleportedbreadfor3days

      Such a touching reminder and you had to kill it with a plot armor card. How about grief or absence? Chewie made Han feel complete, and the two shared that sense of completion with Han’s family. Something about Chewie’s person made everybody feel like everything was gonna be ok in the end, and now he’s gone. It wasn’t the character, it was the person. Han and Chewie were like brothers, something that went beyond Chewbacca’s life debt.

    Speaking of Chewbacca's death, there's an emotional comic-book mini-series called "Chewbacca", in which R2 and 3PO interview some of Chewie's friends and relatives, who talk to them about their relationship with the wookie. It had some pretty emotional moments, like the part in which Chewbacca's father says: "No father should bury his own son" or Han constantly asking Chewie for help while trying to repair the Falcon 😢

    Upon hearing that the Galactic Republic contained three million worlds, I think it is safe to say that the Republic is too large and that allowing systems in the Outer Rim to leave will be the best option. I know that means leaving them alone at the mercy of the Hutts, the Zygerrians and the space pirates. But since the Republic has been ruling them only in name for who knows how long, it makes no different. Either that or allowing the Jedi Order to establish their temples out there like the one on Corellia back during the time when the Galactic Republic was coexisting with the Sith Empire.

    • @jon6309
      @jon6309 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Well most inward Republic worlds from the Core, Colonies, Inner-rim and any planet located on the main hyperspace lanes were too urbanized and industrialized so the planets on the rim provided a lot of the natural resources that the republic needed.

    • @lerneanlion
      @lerneanlion Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@jon6309 The problem is that they are being exploited by whoever in charge. So at this point, it does not matter anymore. So if they wanted independence, then I say let them.
      As for the Republic, it needed reorganization to adjust itself to this change in the manner similar to the Roman Empire after they lost Egypt, Syria and Carthage to the rising Arab Caliphates at the times by establishing the tagmata system. Yes, that means giving a lot of powers to the military governors and they can threaten Coruscant if they do not get what they wanted. But at that point, it is the only way out. So at the very least, I can see the Republic survived for another 500 years with the tagmata system before decide to adopt another change.

  • @Hugin-N-Munin
    @Hugin-N-Munin Před 4 měsíci +4

    "The Galactic Republic had over 3 million planets"
    Wow, that means a lot of empty space and star systems without any Republic presence. If we assume the SW galaxy is 'normalish' and, similar to the Milky Way, has in the vague area of ~100,000,000,000 stars. And has a vaguely similar star:planet ratio (MW has roughly ~1:1, but given multi-planet systems like Sol, and multi-star systems, the distribution of star:planet is nowhere near regular).
    And we acknowledge that the Republic was never even half the galaxy (a third, maybe)
    Which means a whole lot of 'empty real estate' for pirates and other such ne'er-do-wells to hide in...especially if you have next to no 'law enforcement force projection'

I was hoping one of these might be a good fit as a spaceport between the larger Galaxy and the Empire of the Hand in my fanfics, but with the exception of Sernpidal, they're all *much* too far away from Hand Space to really work. Meh, the Yuuzhan Vong invade though a different Vector Prime in my AU (after they get their asses handed to them by Hand/Imperial Remnant scouts), so perhaps Sernpidal could work after all, since it doesn't get Termina'ed on the Third Night.

    I really enjoyed this topic as I was unfamiliar with these worlds prior to watching this video. I wonder what currency these trading post accepted since they were on very obscure and unlikely member worlds of any large galactic governments in the known galaxy. I couldn’t understand why Watto did not accept Republic credits since Tattooine was very close to republic worlds like Ryloth where credits were likely accepted. I’m sure the hutts who controlled Tattooine also traded with the republic for some goods and services so credits would still be usable. When I read the high republic comics I was surprised that the moon Jedah had its own currency and did not use credits despite being a republic outpost with a very tiny population compared to the standard worlds of the galaxy.

    • @yourlocaltoad5102
      @yourlocaltoad5102 Před 4 měsíci

      I always assumed that Watto didn’t really travel and so he needed a currency that others in tattooine would accept without issues.
      And while many there would probably also take republic credits, they likely had horrible exchange rates. So taking credits would have meant that he would make a loss while ship parts or other valuable items wouldn’t loose as much value.
      Kinda like how Croatians also didn’t accept euros even tough they did most of their trade with people from the euro-zone. They just knew that the exchange rates were horrible and would always mean that they made a loss. And I bet that exchange rates on tattooine were worse than those in croatia.

      And at every border crossing, there were money exchangers who had rates that ensured that they would make 20-30% of profit.
      That analogy actually works quite well.
      Even things like the core worlds complaining about corruption in the outer rim while being full of bribery themselves or them outsourcing labour to the outer rim and then using the lack of jobs to spread political division in the core are perfectly analogous.
