I understand that she loves her husband unconditionally but that doesn’t mean she should have to stay with him romantically after he turns into a “her”. As a straight woman, this could be very damaging to her. It’s denying who you really are just to let someone else be who they are, and while it’s incredibly selfless, I hope she realizes that her happiness is important too.

Cathy T While I agree and it is heartbreaking for the family, I do think that a lot of trans people who are of a similar age to Lauren could not have possibly come out when they were teenagers or in their 20’s. It was unheard of to try to explain something like that at that time. So they went on and attempted to live a normal life and have children because simply put, they were afraid of the family or societal reaction. Now that it is recognized and people feel safe to have the discussion, they are coming out.

You also have to take in consideration that people who are transgender they deny it to to themselves because they don't want it to be true they are scared of it being true. So they try to ignore it and continue to try and live life. They don't purpose purposely lead someone on or lie to anyone. It's a battle inside their mind. They try to ignore it and they are in denial. That's where the depression comes in. My best friend is transgender. Before he transitioned to male. She was suicidal, self harming, just in a very very dark place. She went inpatient for mental health issues for 4 months and they worked through it. They came home and that's when they transitioned because they knew they were transgender deep down since he was little. But he tried to push those thoughts away because they are terrifying thoughts. Nobody wants to be transgender. That's why people like Lucy keep it a secret for so long. They aren't even knowingly keeping a secret for very long. And they usually don't connect the dots until the depression and anxiety was so bad they can't take it anymore. Than they admit it to themselves.

I used to know this couple... our daughters danced ballet together about 10 years ago. I always saw the dad with the daughter, dropping her off at class, picking her up, putting her coat or ballet slippers on... he seemed to take more of the role as "mom". I figured he was just a very involved dad. Now I'm watching this and I'm blown away. I wish the wife the best of luck in her relationship and raising their children together. I personally wouldn't be able to handle that. I give her credit.
I feel sad that Jennifer is trying to rationalize, saying at least she's not in an abusive relationship, so she'll stay. Lauren may be a kind, lovely person, but Jennifer doesn't seem to acknowledge her own self-worth or right to happiness. She seems to be battling her own deep depression now. I do wish them the best, but their whole situation seems so tragic.

I'm all for people living their authentic lives or whatever but marrying someone who wants to be with a man and grow old with that man knowing you are NOT it is just deceitful. I see a lot of these stories, everybody happy for the person who finally comes out and sympathising with their previous struggles and what not but dammit what about the woman who now has to use toys for the rest of her life because he took his thing to the butcher? Larry is completely selfish, I know from experience that the person transiting isn’t thinking about the feelings of their spouse only about themselves, and what they want they don’t care that we are hurting it feels like someone died. My husband told me he wanted to be a woman later on, he told me why he wanted to transition it wasn’t because he was born that way it was because he couldn’t live with the memories of his bad childhood and transitioning would make him a new person who didn’t have to deal with his past I tried to get him therapy all they would tell me to do, is go along with it that he was a woman, he wouldn’t tell the therapist why he wanted to transition instead he would just tell them what he thought they needed to hear to get hormones. Science hasn’t proven that a man can become a woman it’s impossible people should accept the gender they were born because after surgery you are still a man DNA and chromosomes don’t change. This is so wrong her feelings matter he needs to realize that and stop being so selfish.

Though, my statement still stands. While I disagree with this trans woman marrying her in the first place, I think it's justified that we are afraid to come out sometimes and often want to "out grow" it and ignore the problem. Gender identity and sexuality are two different things. The simplest way to explain it is that sexuality is who you go to bed with and gender identity is who you go to bed as. Just because you're going through a transition doesn't mean that your sexuality will automatically change. It's up to the individual what they identify as, it's really just their business.

What this person has is autogynephilia. So that is when a straight male sexualizes and internalizes feminine stereotypes to the point that he becomes obsessed with the idea of being a woman because it is arousing. There is a constant urge to become what is arousing. Now this has been rebranded as a woman trapped in a man’s body but that is not correct. This person is male. It is not right for him to put his wife through that. I believe it is best to just be friends. While it is perfectly fine for a man to be stereotypically feminine, that does not make him a woman. The same is true for a woman who likes to be masculine, she’s still a woman. I am sorry but nothing can change that and I think we’d get further in this discussion if autogynephiles, who make up the MAJORITY of trans women would be honest. The problem is, if they are honest about their fetish, it diminishes the arousal.

Some trans women do like women. They are attracted to feminine things for themselves and in what they seek out in a lover. There are also trans guys that use to be women, they don’t like feminine things they are attracted to masculine things for themselves and in what they seek out in a lover.

I watch this show and actually really like this couple, but hearing Jennifer say that they are the family that everyone wants to be is disappointing, it really seems about appearance to her. I have been married for 22 yrs and there is no way my husband could keep this big of a secret/lie from me and I am positive other long term relationships could say the same. We are together because we love and care for each other and we are friends not because we want to be the envy of the hood.
