    Just heard a group of Atlanta, Georgia inner city high schoolers in Mass Band perform this. I was mesmerized and had to find it. I didn’t recognize it at first, but it was majestic to see it live. Highly skilled group coached by HBCU faculty and alumni. This is a new favorite for me.

    It might be narcissistic but a good chunk of the views on this video are me. Absolutely loved this experience. What a great team

    Stoked to be in that Trombone Lineup and play this marvellous arrangement. Was special playing it in the MFC.

    I have never heard of this composition before and I love it! Definitely not your typical Ave Maria it still captured my attention til the very end. WOW! The last chord was worth the wait.

    Well deserved maximum points. Very moving performance, great sound throughout the band, but especially the bass line.

    This is a performance which is simply divine .The sound of the band, the balance and the feeling really get you doesn't it. Norman Goffin once said to our band (Onslow - later Wellington Brass) that he believed brass band players had some kind of spirituality brought out in their hymn playing. I reckon he was right and certainly there is a spirit in this wonderful performance which transfixes the listener.

    Trombone placement was the way to go, the recording doesn't do it justice, watching it from the seat was such a exhilarating experience

    Thanks to the arranger for leaving it in C!! So many gawd-awful arrangements of stuff normally in C transposed down to Bb for brass bands and wind ensembles.

    This piece is a brass band transcription of the choral piece "Ave Maria" published in 1964 and written by the contemporary classical composer Franz Biebl. The choral groups "Chanticleer" and "Voces8" have posted their performances elsewhere on youtube.

      @thejils1669 Před 2 lety

      @@PeterSchrijver I'm not sure...it might have been exclusively transcribed just once for this NZ band to perform...I've not run across this band transcription elsewhere, like on YT, but that doesn't mean too much...

    SO very lovely! What are the cloth mutes that the cornets are using? What are they called, and where might I acquire one? I am based in Canada, and have never seen nor heard such a unique colouration of the sound! Thanks in advance! Bravo to all!

      The conductor of Wellington Brass, David Bremner, arranged this choral work for the band. It is unpublished. He had the vision of how the component parts should sound in the Michael Fowler Centre, which he is very familiar with. This is why we cornets used "Bags by Weir" for the first couple of verses.
