Please make the steps Nanny Di proof!!!
Put rails up for her. Everytime she goes to step by them my heart goes to my throat. I've seen her using sticks or brooms etc which can slip from her.

I love that you guys were such beginners at the start (I never realized that...see, you guys look like pro's now!)...it makes me feel so much better, and is so much more fun for me to watch your journey since I'm not a gardener at all (although I have just got myself my first houseplant!) They are Heucheras that like shade or partial shade...pronouced ‘Hook-era’ 😉 Salvias are actually great companion plants for under or in front of roses as they help prevent diseases in the roses. Try varieties like Hot Lips, Amethyst Lips, Royal Bumble, Coral Mirage, Love & Wishes and Lipstick...the types with really scented leaves. Plus you could also put some compact lavenders there...perhaps the french type...Bee Brilliant for example.

Did you solve the mystery about your missing magnolia? I have had a magnolia stellata in my garden for many years, and it remains one of my favourite plants, almost majestic and delicate looking and so pretty!! Mark, with respect, may I make a suggestion that you check the growth stats on your plantings, I just think that you will end up with having to move quite a few of the newer plants due to overcrowding in the next year or two. I have a variety of Heucheras, and I have also planted them with ferns and a variety of hostas in my shaded under tree areas. I thought your acknowledgment of being perhaps a little hard with Nanny Di, was a respectful and decent thing to do. I am sure she will appreciate it, as at times she has seemed reluctant/hesitant to voice her thoughts and opinions. Look forward to seeing the next GFH and how the rest of the planting goes. I think the rose garden will look beautiful 😄👍🏻🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼

What a nice surprise to wake up to a new GFH for breakfast ...love Cercis, beautiful leaves and flower. I think I'd add a LOT of soil and mulch under those trees with the ferns , compacted with roots, all your leaves and lawn clippings (once rotted down ) could be used there too. Garden is looking lovely and green. Cut your rose back hard and water reg, it should survive. Blue catmint, salvias and Russian sage are nice with roses. Great idea for that wall. Love your little chat about Nanny Di at the end lol, she's glowing lately. Sorry but that dead tree is an eyesore and ruins the overall green look..cant get enough of GFH, love it

Thank you Mark - Clematis , Honeysuckle and Jasmine are beautiful to grow through climbing or rambling roses -
Rambling roses look beautiful, if you put vine eyes in and then thread wire through this is the best way to secure them - another top is to makes sure you put the branches horizontally and this produce shoots and more roses !
Nanny Di really does enjoy your time in garden with you - it's evident in her smile
    Have a great week
