Horizon Forbidden West has another tribute. Lance Reddick, who voiced one of the characters, died after the games completion. So, Guerilla released a special patch for the game. In the ruins of LA you can actually find Reddick’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I have one to add. In Borderlands 3 there's a mission where a guy with a deceased daughter is throwing a birthday party in memory of her. When you arrive you play through a bunch of minigames that the dad says his daughter was undefeated at. Obviously, you have the choice to be a total sociopath and annihilate this little girl's records, but I didn't and it made the dad so happy that her records remained unbeaten. Very wholesome.
Have you done a save where you beat her records? I'm curious what his reaction is 🤔
@@bwestacado9643 I have not. I just didn't have it in me lol. But I've heard CZcamsrs talk about it and from what they claim the father's response is a very sad and depressed congrats.
@@MrBergste Ah, so just basically not worth it lol. I'd feel bad, even for a video game character
The "Mayor Setter" easter egg is shoutout to real events. Dogs have been elected to Mayor around 7 times in the United States. A cat is Mayor in an Arkansas town right now I believe. Most bureaucrats are completely useless... So why not elect our pets?
We get bureaucat instead
I brushed up on my facts and I'm a little off. Stubbs the cat served as honorary Mayor of an Alaskan town from 1997 to 2016. Wild.
rabbit hash ky has a dog mayor and has revoted him for years lmao
Idyllwild, CA has had Mayor Max, Mayor Max II, and Mayor Max III since 2012!
@a.salazar3063 I think those were the actual inspirations for Mayor Setter. Idyllwild-Pine Grove, California is an unincorporated town with no municipal government, the dog mayors are just symbolic (and very good boys.)
Wholesome is Falcon preparing so many videos for us over the holiday - he's a real bird!
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Devs that memoralize loved ones are amazing. Because its usually not like hey advertised but rather left for the audience to discover. Rest in peace the souls of those that are no longer with us.
The Lance Reddick memorial in Horizon Forbidden West was touching as well.
Sea os Stars has a truly deep and moving easter egg that's sorta the cap on the unlocking the ultimate secret area at the end where a character who is obviously an avatar for one of the lead developers goes into his struggles with his personal demons and mental health and describes how making Sea of Stars and the friendships they made along the way changed their perspective and saved their lives. Totally out of left field and very wholesome indeed
47 being a bro and comforting a stranger was not on my wholesome bingo card haha
Yes and then if you’re like me, you immediately push the bitch over the railing lol
The cat images in the Cat Memorial are also pictures sent in to the devs from Fans, as well as dev cats!
Can’t believe Middle Earth: Shadow of War was left out, they literally made a dev who passed away into a good orc as part of a DLC who comes along and can save you in-game as well as has a bad ass post credits scene where he demolishes a horde of Uruk while a soundtrack he composed plays in the background. Amazing
Hitman 3 easter egg really caught me off guard.
I was very surprised to see that 47 could reassure someone that their friend really cared about them and wanted to see them. I haven't played the game in a longtime but if I remember right you can find the friend that woman is waiting on & tell her her friend is waiting for her & go back and listen to their conversation when they are talking & they are glad to see each other.
"beat around the bush" points for not giving us the token Falcon broken giggle.
What a beautiful and wholesome reminder that not all game studios are evil and that humans are actually behind the art we all love. Great list. Hope the new year brings you everything you deserve. 🎉
The story that inspired Jari and Somer in GOWR is just absolutely heartbreaking. I still think about it everyday.
I was so excited when they played on the playground in RE6, I tried on my first playthrough because I couldn't resist and apparently Chris and Piers were on my side.😂❤
Falcon is awesome. Dude is like narrator of kurzgesagt
I live for wholesome video game content on CZcams
👍🏼
Not gonna lie, this video made me tear up at times. Thank you for sharing these moments.
The Talos Principle 2 cat memorial is great!
The first game also had a very wholesome easter egg, where you could find a crowbar lying in a pile of rubble. You could then break some boards to gain access to a museum-like room with multiple different cube-shaped items from various games. The bomb crate can be broken, which would release a cat who would run away. That alters the ending cutscene slightly so that the robot is holding a cat.
6:50 Galactic props to Bethesda for their shout out to Alex Hay. Massive amounts of respect to the gaming community, and of course, the man himself.
(*I'm not crying. YOU'RE crying!)
Falcon a true gee of his craft.
If you need any for a future follow up, there is also the Tribute to a Vault Hunter in Borderlands 2. Between the Claptrap eulogy delivered in part from Claptrap and in part out of character to Michael becoming an actual person you can get guns from, it was a nice tribute.
The scene from Bioshock Infinite should be on this list where Elizabeth sings "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" to the little boy under the stairs, handing him an orange, with Booker DeWitt playing the guitar.
Should've mentioned Michael Mamaril from Borderlands 2. A tribute npc that everyone is always happy to see.
Similar to the Alex Jay easter egg is the one in Skyrim. In Rorikstead, you can help a young man called Eric leave his home town. He will rename himself Erik the Slayer in reference to another cancer patient that was a massive fan of the studio.
That Hitman scene was very nice to see. For so much of the series we see how smart 47 is. That scene shows how wise he is.
Two uploads in one day?!
You guys are the best!
Bro I felt the cat one in my heart and idk why, great video hahaha
Ironically u can also use the play ground as Ada in her part of the campaign and she will let her child side show 😂😂
The dog mayor is a nod to a real life dog mayor in US.
Probably the only politician you can trust
Big spoilers for Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, which has a pretty wholesome, but also downright heartbreaking example. After you beat the game, if you return to a few areas, you'll find some new Force echos, several of which are of twist villain Bode singing a song along with his daughter, Kata. At first, it's a very cute sounding song and showing that despite doing some terrible things he's done, Bode cared deeply for his daughter. And as you find the echoes, the song gets a lot more emotional, including one instance of Bode singing not to Kata, but his deceased wife, Tayala. He's breaking down not only because of the memories of his lost love, but the fact that he knows that he's no longer the good man he once was. There are also echoes you find across the other worlds, revealing bits of insight into Bode's mind as he realized he was really beginning to connect with the people he was about to betray, namely the main character, Cal.
Shout out to the Halo 3 easter egg celebrating the coder's wife's birthday.
Fun fact: cormorant Minnesota actually has a dog for mayor. His name is duke.
Two lists on one day , thanks for the present.
I needed this, thank you.
Sea of Thieves’ Glitterbeard is a tribute to a dev who passed - you should have mentioned him!!! ❤
Damn....Falcon has been working overtime lately. Awesome upload as always!
That Horizon one was touching. Haven't even played that game yet but that got me
In Horizon Forbidden West the memorial to Lance Reddick made me cry
I’m deathly sick since last Wednesday been binging all your content. Thanks for the videos
Ngl without that background information on the GOW segment I would have disagreed, because for me honestly the flying jellyfish side mission really got me tearing up
The campfire quest was one of the last things I did in the game. I was going for the platinum and the campfire's found in an obscure part of the map near the top of Midgard. I had found all the other hearts beforehand and thought they were just an Easter egg I didn't get. Then after I found the fire I revisited them all since I didn't even need a guide to remember where they are. I didn't even know there was a bigger story behind the quest irl. But I remember smiling the whole time through the quest while Mimir told me their story. GoW:R is definitely my game of the year
Gosh...that Alex Hay note broke me to pieces. I didn't know about it before.
Borderlands 2 paid tribute to a superfan named Michael Mamaril who I believed passed from cancer not long after the game came out. He randomly shows up in Sanctuary as an NPC near Marcus' shop. He will even give you loot if you talk to him. ❤️
In Spidey 2 I'd also put the Howard and Find Grampa missions as well, two of my favourites because they felt so grounded despite all that happens in the game (and general superhero content)
Spidey is about being a neighbour level character and these really drove that home for me, as well as about how fleeting life can be in moments I didn't expect to feel that way
Not really complex tho
How’s that a Easter egg?
Easter eggs, not missions
Mayor Setter was a pleasant surprise ❤
Hope to see a Boston Easter egg in some game soon :)
The most wholesome memorial I've visited in a game was the memorial to Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek Online. The community really reveres it at a site of importance.
Double uploads from Falcon, I'm here for it.
The Alex Haynes one always hits the feels
good stuff guys, thanks.😁
thanks, I enjoy hunting and finding easter eggs
Falcon, you are the wholesome Easter egg on CZcams. When I found you, I have been happier ever since. You are a Christmas miracle.
Been going through a really shitty 2.5 years now, this video really helps to take a break mentally from the never ending nightmare I never thought I'd find myself in. So in short, more of these more of these !
I needed this today
I'm actually kinda disappointed that the Glitterbeard quest from Sea Of Thieves was not on this list. Another memorial easter egg that requires cooperation among players to find, has a whole secret location, and even gives you special gear as well
4:40 I cry at the most simple things. I love my little dogs so freaking much
Now I want to play the game just to pet the puppy.
I ran into a wholesome moment in Cyberpunk 2077. In game a neighbor of V's is feeling overwhelmed and locks himself in his apartment. Once you get into his apartment you can have this deep and meaningful conversation. And help him find meaning to his life. Very nice
This is not an Easter egg, just a nice wholesome moment
Complex yet wholesome, really scrapping the edges for ideas lol
Thanks again for the new vid. I cant play these games because I eont have the consoles to play em but man do I feel like I've experienced them through these videos. From me and those like me, thanks gameranx and thanks Falcon for your takes lol
And here I was hoping not to cry today. 💁🏽♂️
Good video!
please change number cards background to black so it won't hurt our eyes.
No
Sometimes icons hurt us
This is the way.
What game?
That’s like asking them to turn down the “bleededeet” cmon guy
Sounds like a skill issue
Theres an Easter egg in Sea of Stars dedicating an entire moment in the middle of the story to taking you to a monument that shouts out everyone who donated to their kickstarter campaign.
Not even sure if it technically counts as an easter Egg..but man, that "Sing for Me" song Lohse sings in DOS2 after completing her story quest is..probably one of the most wholesome things there could be. Surprised it wasnt on this list but maybe in the future😊
The Horizon easter egg really got to me
Yeah kindy of looks like the actual San Francisco
One more great modern tribute was Marvel's Midnight Suns. The devs put a memorial to a guy who was a big fan of the game in it by having his name carved in a tree on the Abbey grounds. The devs did bring the game to him so that he got to play it in some sort of state before he died. These tributes are really incredibly meaningful.
I love all these entries
Protect Falcon at ALL costs.
The one that always stands out in my mind is the tribute to XboxAddict in Sea of Thieves. There's a cave on Smugglers' Bay with a small area where his name is etched and there's candle lighting. It's a nice tribute to someone who was such a big fan and was a big loss to the gaming community.
"Best Fries in Town."
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
One last cameo for Stan the Man.
Borderlands 2 has a similar easter egg like Starfield. There's an NPC named Michael Mamaril who sometimes can be found in Sanctuary. He's named after a huge Borderlands fan who also passed away before Borderlands 2 came out. You also unlock an achievement if you find him called "Tribute to A Vault Hunter".
Wait until he hears about Mayor Max the Labrador
Maximus Mighty Dog Mueller II is a golden retriever
Guess I didn't hear about Mayor Max properly then 😂 my bad
Those tributes in game you shared in this video got me tearing up😢
The mainline Pokémon games have also been doing the birthday celebration for years. I had no clue, so the first time really threw me. Now I play every year on my birthday even if it’s only for that because it’s just so wholesome.
"There is still something truly wholesome about a muscle man playing on a kids playground..."
GameRanks ~ 2023
Add in another bonus! Legendary gun "the trevonator" in borderlands 3 is named after a fan that died of cancer (at 27 years old) before the game was released. Gearbox gave him the opportunity to play an early version of the game and I believe he got to choose the gun that was named after him.
Welcome back!
From the writers of the Talos Principle 2 about cats:
"It's kind of amazing what we do for cats. When you think about it, what we provide them with, I sometimes think about how long our cats live, right? They can live 20 years if they're lucky. They never have to work. They never even have to hunt. We take care of them, we provide them with quite an amazing experience. That's a choice that we make. We say, you're just going to have this amazing life because I would feel awful if you had a difficult life since you don't really understand the world. You don't understand why you don't feel well, so I'm going to take you to the doctor and make you better because I understand and you don't."
Yeah, Cats are kinda like that, haha. I'm sure some cats were like "wait a minute... if I stop trying to eat them..." they can hook me up too.
...and so, that's exactly what cats do. They're great though - love 'em. Fan of Dogs too, but not owning them myself - a little too high maintenance, at least for my current living situation..!
I don't remember details now as it's been quite a few years, but World of Warcraft in Wrath of the Lich King has one of those memoriam quests.
It's a side quest where an NPC asks the player to find a family member or something like that. You go out on a journey around Icecrown to find this chap. Apparently it's a quest abut one of the developers or his brother that was struggling with cancer and ultimetely looses the fight . While nothing special at first I actually made sure to finish it when I found out what it is about.
Wow didn't know you could actually LOVE the boss in Kirby!
I remember starting Horizon Zero Dawn 2 years ago on my birthday and came across the "Happy Birthday Isaac" datapoint early in the game caught me off-guard. I did not expect that at all but it was a bittersweet moment, from how Aloy responded to it and how tense things were in the world when that datapoint was being made (I think there was an ambush happening, can't remember well)
The hitman one was very nice 😢 agent 47 is not a robot killing machine ❤
Talking about Hitman i love the trolling of Ikea in the Swedish consulate mission, that situation actually goes on for a pretty long time too
Gotta say, I really did not see the Mayor Setter one coming. Such an unexpected but pleasant twist 😂
Entry #4
Man... As on old school gamer myself (ps1 was my first REAL console where i played and actually FINISHED games) i think about that all the time. I'm so thankful to be able to have seen gaming come as far as it has!!! Its actually insane!!! RIP to all the gamers who didnt make it!!! You'd love it!!❤
Shoule have added as a bonus the space rocket scene in TLOU 2. I cried with that scene.
I love it when people are immortalized in games.... send that code out the space and see what happens
The Legend of Glitterbeard in Sea of Thieves was epic & it's almost criminal it didn't make the list
You could do an entire video just on the wholesome easter eggs in SoT. Of course, Glitterbeard stands above them all. Absolutely stunning.
reccomended video. Games that should get a reboot with enough cut content, or tech advancements to deserve it.
Flacon is the hardest working bird in the business
14:13 We all go out, just a question of when. Thing that hits me about this that he will be remembered and has been immortalised by the people he knew. I count myself lucky to be so well loved and missed.
I dont know if it completely counts as an easter egg but ill never forget when the borderlands devs/VA done a eulogy and added John Mamaril as a character to the borderlands
Not going to lie, as a relatively new player I'd love shards of any of these characters. Rotbone would be an ideal member of my chaos team to finally beat the Fall of Cadia campaign
Did you give your insight about phantom blaze zero?
You should make a top 10 of your own top 10s
How do they upload so much ?!? Truly amazing grind
got to love some light-hearted stuff in this day and age
This video made me tear up so much it's not even funny!! So incredibly sad in parts but so beautiful, touching and wholesome as well too!! Thank you guys so much for putting together such a wonderful video like this!!!
