Pumla’s view is very rich. Both partners roles are very essential. Otherwise even a man would ask to be paid for his role as a provider. It’s just essential for the provider to take into consideration the needs of their partner also considering providing money for things that can make her life easier and happier. Otherwise monetizing roles at home is a disaster.

I'm with Pumla and Angie! I've stayed home before for a year or so while he worked and for me it felt like just lifting my share of the relationship weight just as he does by bringing in money. I never once felt like paying me would mean he valued my input. But it sure helped that he always thanked me and included me in all our financial decisions even if I was bringing in zero income.
So good to see you all back on set! 😍

My husband gets me all I need even before asking and even when you ask he provides but I also think that it should be upon him to get me whatever he can but not attaching value to the work I do coz I will end up being underpaid and he has also helped to get appliances that ease my work like a washing machine, microwave, electric kettle gas cooker, inverter and many more

One day talk about simblings or people who do anything for deceased loved family members kids.
It's important to love these kids like our own biological kids.
I have sacrificed 12 years raising my late sisters kids being home fully.
My big sister providing financial in everything.
Am proud to see them all grown up and now am starting to build my own life the youngest being 13 years.
Its time to build my future now and enjoy seeing them be the best version.
This is my worry if we will have many people out here willing to raise our kids or parents when we a deceased too.

I think women who sacrifise to stay at home should be compensated….. like Pumla said it shouldn’t be payment per say but husbands shd be human enough to know that these ladies of theirs also have personal needs n therefore every once in a while or more often should be concerned about how they survive n be able to do something about it.

My view is - stay home mums need a certain amount of money every month as appreciation, keeping all other forms of appreciation constant. Every woman needs some money on her. She has her family that looks up to her for some help. That's justification enough.

    -Man buys food, woman cooks
-Man pays tuition, woman takes child to school
-man pays hospital bill woman takes child to hospital
-man pays bride price woman 🤷 etc so to me it's always 50 50 if the man is responsible. So to me it should be love, respect, acknowledgement of my support in any way he feels he can afford.

I have been a homemaker(housewife) for 5 years. His money is my money. We share accounts and there is no limit to who takes what money although we do have budgets for important things in our home. I literally don’t have to explain why i withdrew a certain amount of money but we do tell each-other out of respect and also showing we both are not misusing the money. I think every marriage has it’s own dynamic that works for it. People underestimate the work of homemakers, it’s literally 24 hrs. Homemakers need money to feel secure.

What an interesting Conversation! Should housewives be paid?
Payment is a form of compensation and recognising value. The preson that pays has a right to expect a certain level(quality or output) of service delivery. Should expectations be not met, then they have a right to get another wife or woman who can do a better job.
Keeping all factors constant, a man and a woman come together in love to start and a raise a family and live happily ever. This means that wife and husband should support each other to achieve the above.
The money that is made is just a tool to help the couple achieve the above goals.
If society starts monitizing family matters, then we are bound to loose the most important unit of society ie family.
What is important is that by the time a man and woman get married, they know what they are going in to. And while in marriage, they make a conscious decision to Seek God and obey his leading. The few bible verses I have read in the bible that talk about Marriage concetrate more on respect, submission and love. I don't see paying wives or husbands any where....
Bottom line: housewives or househusbands should not be paid.

My two cents is that even those with help, need to be paid because, if you have had helpers they need supervision or nothing gets done.
I had a male colleague who shared that he fussed at his wife for not minding their young child given that he had hired helpers. Two days later he asked her to get back into the kitchen because he could not eat the food prepared

OK, let's dance! Give a housewife a $1,000 a month for her job. Now, she should have to pay her husband at least half that for housing. Giving him back $100 a week for food sounds reasonable. Another $75 a month should cover utilities. Then there is cable and internet, clothes and the optional vehicle usage. Will call it an even $200; that should cover fuel, insurance, and maintenance. The presence of a man is both security and therapeutic; those are 2 of his part-time jobs. Together we'll round it down to $500 a month. Weekends, holidays, and vacations are extra.
If we paid you $52,000 a year to be a house wife, it looks like at best you'll owe $175 a month! You might need to get a second job just to be able to afford being a housewife.

  • @linalesia5188

If a housewife gets paid, by her husband, does she still have a claim on the property at separation? If she is paid, she is nothing but a maid, and a maid has no claim on the family property. I believe paying a woman a salary is demeaning their part in a marriage.

This is not a problem in some continents, the question should be ( should an African house wife be paid for her work) absolutely 100% YES, in fact it should be a law and the employer to the husband should be fined if the housewife does not get paid, to get the answer to this question we need to find out why is the Kenyan government even considering this?

@@aherezachristine6417 I understand that. I'm expressing that if women want this conversation, we need to have the whole conversation. If women think their husband's owe them for being a housewife then women owe their husbands for the multitude of services she receives being a housewife. This panel has been 1 side if the issue and as a man with a stay at home gf, if she told me I owe her for what she does for me then I am going to hand her an invoice for all of the things she owes me for.
Women really don't want men to start seeing our relationships as transactional.

@@Blakkfoot you are right we surely need the whole story, anyone who thinks that a husband paying a stay home wife is transactional is being emotional and not logical. In a case were both parties have agreed that the wife should stay home, they would have evaluated their life style and they are satisfied that whatever the husband earns can cater for the whole family. Then why is the stay home wife deprived of basic needs just because she’s not earning if this was the decision made by both partners. it’s unfortunate that this type of husband needs to be forced by law to do what he supposed to do.

I like how Pamla brought it out... When u say payment, its tricky cz shld the husband also be paid for working and providing???
As couple if one is working a formal setting where there is a salary, then the one being paid shld know that its just common decency to have the wife's needs.
I think this goes back to agreeing on the marriage finances and the welfare of both partners according to diff households and their level of finances.

It would actually be selfish if a man had a wife who is a stay home and they don't really budget for their needs. Please men, if u have a stay home wife, your responsibilities are not just rent, sch fees, and food. Your wife's needs both basics and luxury accordingly are yo responsibilities too. This way even payment won't be a discussion. I think it has become a discussion in some households bse honestly so many men forget about these women bse they think as long as rent and utilities are sorted the woman shld survive.

@@pumlanabachwa8668 Because being a full-time caregiver and house manager is genuine hard work which shouldn't be underestimated, Pumla. Giving a decent monthly/weekly allowance is a show of appreciation and providing empowerment and dignity to another human being who happens to be the wife. Society needs to respect caregiving work just as much as any other form of employment whether in the office or not.
Maybe the word 'paid' may not be the appropriate word to use, however, I strongly believe the husband should compensate his wife for her difficult and noble decision to leave formal employment for the benefit of the family. It's the humane thing to do. Or he could use the compensation he'd give her to utilise the money for a business opportunity she can start up and run. That way, she can further contribute to the family's income with the flexibility of taking care of the family and not being 'shackled' to an employer.

Don't be surprised that African women are concerned about getting compensated for their labor of love. In the past we have gone without inheritance, rights, land etc. This is a fair discussion. A good man will provide for his wife who is caring for his home and family. But many bad ones use the financial power to lord over their wives. Happens a lot in Uganda. Let's not feign ignorance.
