Giants have JD Davis who can put up Chapman numbers offensively and had an above average year with the glove last season. They also have Casey Schmitt who is an outstanding defensive talent at third with the possibility to become a solid offensive player... The need, if any is pretty minimal for the Giants which is why Chapman hasn't found a home yet imo.
Umm, the Giants literally led the entire league in errors last year. How could they possibly NOT have a need for a platinum glove??
@jonnyt16 The Giants definitely have a need for improved defense. But at the Boras price tag? Chapman is a slightly above average bat and his saving grace is his defense. I just don't think the Giants are willing to meet the price tag when they have someone who can hit at the same level with Davis and another in Schmitt who may not be proven but has made a name for himself in the minors as a stellar defender.
I still think the Giants may acquire him, but I bet it'll be at a reduced price like Belli and the Cubs.

868 career games played 976 strikeouts, batting average last 5 seasons .249, .232, .210, .229 and .240 and going to be 31 in a couple of months. The guy is not a good offensive player and owners are finally wising up and now have sabermetrics to back them up that as a player gets into his 30s there starts to be a decline in performance. It’s sad that reportedly he turned down a 4-5 yr $100 million deal from Toronto prior to 2023, Boras made the same mistake with Michael Conforto who turned down a similar deal from the Mets prior to his walk year. Chapman should ask him how that worked out.
Oakland A’s of all teams offered him a great contract by the looks of the situation now. Of course that’s when he was hitting like the top 3B of the league for a while and back then he and Boras was envisioning a 300-$400 million contract this year.
With 3B open, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chapman come back on a 1 year pillow contract

Giants have bigger problems than 3B. Right now they literally have a three man rotation thanks to early spring training injuries to the unproven kids they had penciled into the 4th and 5th spots in their rotation and they have nothing but fliers at shortstop. Add that to the fact they'd likely need to move J.D. Davis and/or Wilmar Flores (the Elder) and Boras is going to have a hard time getting much out of the Giants for Chapman. They are a decent fit for one another (a bit like a "mini" Bellinger/Cubs match) but its hardly make or break for either side.
There's gonna be a huge hole over there for us without Max Chapman

Yeah when they were cheap and then when it came time to pay, the A’s sent them packing.
Add, that as Chapman gets older, his range at third will likely decrease. He might still be able to stop everything that comes his way, but it will become difficult, then impossible, to make those wide ranging plays Chapman can pull off now. So, SF might offer Matt Chapman a three year contract, but five or six years is much less likely.

I was about to correct you on the Max thing and my son said don't do it he's up to something cause he's not dumb, of course he was right. The whole Chapman Giants thing is more complicated than you may think, half the Giants fans don't want him. Him and current Giants 3rd baseman JD Davis had almost identical stats last year and JD costs a lot less plus fans don't want to see Casey Schmitt blocked.
