- It ain't pretty but it works! Today I build a dust collection port that attaches directly below the table of my 14" bandsaw with rare-earth magnets.
I've actually been frustrated for a while now because I felt like there had to be a better way to connect my dust collector to my bandsaw but I couldn't figure out how to attach it because the underside of the table is such a weird shape but it was too thin to tap screws into. One day I was looking at that package of magnets and it just clicked.

Standard Disclaimer: Putting your soft, squishy fingers near powerful sharp spinning things is dangerous. I've been doing this for a while and I know what I'm doing but even I'm not invincible. I take a lot of safety precautions based on my level of experience and not all of them are shown on camera. Don't do anything you aren't comfortable with. *Making a hardwood fence for the miter makes all the difference **MyBest.Tools** Tune the saw with a combination square. Adjust the laser so its in line.😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣See the photos.Every part in this saw is adjustable.😎😭*
Pretty cool idea. Absolutely agree on the near uselessness of most dust collection projects I've seen. Right now I've got a dust collector on my band saw that consists of layers of corrugated cardboard and Gorilla duct tape mounted to the underside of the table. It's VERY rough, but surprisingly functional, and is tied directly into my dust collection system, so no complaints.

Simplest solution I’ve seen yet. I just picked up an old delta with no dc port. I’ll try this method. Thank you!

This is the perfect simple solution and you don’t have to have any ugly boxes or holes drilled into your bandsaw. I’ll be doing this to my bandsaw since I have the same one. Thanks.

Nice work. The slot cut for the blade was larger than expected; thought it would be more of a ‘zero clearance’, but as long as the vacuum overcomes the tendency for the blade to pull sawdust along, it’s a win! Based on videos I’ve seen in recent months, you are not alone in taking this approach. Under-table dust collection appears to be the best solution to the problem. Still getting my workshop set up, but I definitely plan to follow your example. Best wishes!
I was waking around my shop and had picked up a car vac scoop but was having trouble figuring how to attach. It is kid of big and the leverage it would have made me think the RE magnet wouldn't cut it. I then thought, someone has to have a video on this, I wasn't dissapointed. I like your design and will likely copy it.

I just finished making a dust collection setup for my bandsaw using the approach in your video. It seems to work very well! The build was fairly easy, although I had to work around some mounting holes and a thrust bearing that is closer to the table top than your saw.
BTW, I found it helped a lot to take the table top off when sizing and fitting the pieces.

As a green wood bowl turner, bandsaws are at best designed to collect dust from cabinet shop type work and not green wood, which always settles in the bottom of the saw. Closing that open area at the top is huge. Oh, the tables are horrible for anything over about 12 inch long.... I cut log sections up.... Need to build outfeed table that is removable and another fold down type away from the blade...

Thanks for sharing this! Great concept and implementation: clear, concise instructions. Here’s another idea for even more suction. I use 2” painter’s tape to seal as many joints/cracks as possible. I seal the top and bottom wheel covers everywhere I can. I also seal the blade trough on the rear. Really helps!!

Fantastic idea, really makes me wonder why my brand new bandsaw has a dustport on the back of the bottom case and not eexactly how you made this one.
Thank you so much for the inspiration! I tried to make one of these for my bandsaw, but I didn't have nearly enough room underneath the table. I only had about a .5" of clearance above the lower thrust bearing. Using your project as a guide, I was able to design a part in Sketchup and 3D-Print the entire dust collection apparatus. It printed in several parts and I glued the assemblies together. I think with some more tinkering and thought, I could make each piece friction fit into each other. Is there any way I could share the photos of the finally product with you? Thanks again for your incredible videos and all of the hard work that goes into them. I need a really sexy focus video of details and closeups of all your bandsaw mods man… I’ve got the same saw and you have some really well though out mods on this thing that I haven’t seen really detailed anywhere else.
Dang! I wish I would have seen this last year. I'll have to try this on the 4 bandsaws in my school shop. The dust collection port that came with them is basically worthless. Hopefully I can modify this to work on my saws. Thanks for the idea!

Brilliant idea with the magnets. I have a very similar set up on my 16" bandsaw, but i use high volume low pressure dust extraction with a 4" hose to the bottom of the saw, and another 4" just jammed under the table. They both tee off from a 5" hose which my whole system uses. I find this far more effective than a shop vac type system. I shall make a better attachment for the hose below the table using magnets! That is a great idea I have an old jet 14 in looks almost identical I did kind of the same idea I took an old piece that I wasn't using from my shop vac and glued it to the bottom and works pretty decent so once I get a place to be able to set that back up I'm going to make what you made

Man, the only complaint I have is you didn't post this 3 years ago. I've been putzing around with mine for 3 years. I recently gave up. If it wasn't bed time I would go to the garage right now and build it. Thank you very much.

I've got a Grizzly G0555 14", it has a 4" dust collection port on the back like you showed at the beginning of your video. I've always thought there was no good reason to have it sucking air out of the entire cavity of the bandsaw... I wonder if I could restrict space under the table to 'funnel' dust directly to the dust port...

I have the exact Delta Band Saw and have tried different designs for dust collection with not-so-good results. I like your design. Does your saw 'leak' saw dust between the lower metal covers towards the blade side? Does your design dramatically reduce that dust or do you still get a lot of saw dust piles on the base?
Yes, yes and no.
Its a bummer my '36 Delta14 does not have the clearance to install something like this, because it's a good idea.
Really really nice - I glued a magnet on to a piece of flex hose and stuck it under my saw, but its nowhere near as effective as your design - I think Im going to try and do something similar! Thanks!

How does this dust Extraction jig work on a slanted top
It doesn't. I just remove it.
Check out Murph’s Garage channel. He has a very unique dust collection that’s easy to make. It collects dust at the top of table. I first saw him using it in a video, then I found a video of that PVC build.

Damn shame someone butchered the fantastic stock blade guides to install that janky bearing block nonsense. Sad...I'm sure someone sold them on the idea it was an "upgrade".
