  • Learn the basics of fading a treat lure! It's pretty simple but can take some time and practice.

Sarah, @6:19 where your dog failed to do the move, this is the most important part, but you cut what behavior you did which preceded the failure...you cut the part of interest, that bit which preceded the learning failure for your dog.
What behavior or incident occurred, be it door bell ring or your movement or timing or whatever, caused failure?.

Hey! Oh my gosh, this was a total editing mistake I didn’t catch. I apologize! What you see him do immediately after, with offering his paw instead of following my hand down is exactly what happened. I did too many repetitions of no food in my hand and he was catching onto that. Nothing else caused him to stop that behavior! The explanation part is there, but a few seconds before that was where I was still trying to get him to follow my hand down without food in it. I was trying to advance too quickly. I hope this makes sense, sorry about that!

@@sarahcertified Thanks! I'm going to have to video myself because my dog interprets things I'm not aware of even when he's obviously eager and treats are still flowing every time. Right now I'm getting him to bark one every time I do a big eyeblink. First I use a finger flick and then move my hand position to beside my eye and then fade the finger signal. It's for answering simple math questions people can ask the dog. Dogs catch onto this really quickly because they like to bark. They get overly eager and bark repeatedly though, so that has to be calmed down.
